  • A new FT cordless track saw with a thin blade required new splinter guards on all of my tracks. Ron shows how simple and quick it is to keep your Festool TSC making laser-perfect cuts in this tool maintenance tutorial.

I learned the hard way to back up the splinter guard with something solid (scrap wood, foamboard, etc.) for that first trim cut. If you hang the edge of the track out in the air, the splinter guard gets chewed to pieces (ask me how I know).

Hey Ron, if you join two tracks together it allows you to run the saw past the ends of the track and you can get a nice accurate cut at the start and end of the track when trimming the splinter strip for the first time

You can also move the original strip over a couple of mm and re-use it a couple of times before a full replacement is necessary.

Thanks for this. I'm on the Mafell rail platform but I just ordered a big XGT 10¼" Makita circ saw that rides on Festool/Makita rails.

Hey Paul... I hope you fare well in the upcoming storm. Not sure if you've yet to experience a hurricane yet. Preparation is vital.

I just got a great deal on the makita 55" splinter gaurds at $5 each. So I bought an optimistic 5 years worth... ten of them. Lol.
I use each splinter guard several times repositioning it, about 2x-3x per guard. But I still gk through a lot of them.
Im using a Makita XSH03Z (regular circular saw) and the Makita track adapter. It's brutal on the splinter guards since it's wobbly... but its the closest thing to a truly functioning fully-right-handed track saw (with a left blade) that I've found.
Try using only your right arm with a right blade track saw... that is my issue, as I lost use of my left arm/leg.... and I was a lefty.
I hope one day everyone reading this gets to try a good left blade track saw... but a good one doesn't exist. (**Stares at Kreg with an angry look**)

Been there reused many times myself. Where did you get the Makita so cheap?

If anyone has guide rails from any other brand, it's well worth putting the Festool splitter guard on it. I have a 3 meter Makita track since it's so much cheaper, but the black rubber splinter guard is garbage.

Hey Ron thanks for the great videos. I've got a question you may have an answer to. I've got the Makita XPS01 track saw and I've noticed that when I plunge down, the back of the blade often cuts additional material off the splinter guard even after having made the initial cut, which kind of defeats the purpose. The splinter guard ends up a zig-zag, wavy line rather than a perfect straight line. I checked the 0-degree accuracy and it sure enough it was out of square, so I adjusted it to square, put on a new splinter guard.... and still have the same problem, though not as bad. The question I have- is it possible that that blade isn't 100% parallel to the track? I have tightened the set screws so there is no play between the saw and the track, as well. I have been all through the owner's manual and don't see anything about that. I'm kind of at a loss and it's pretty frustrating

As the new owner of a Festool TS-75, I'll need to be able to cut 8ft plywood.
    ( among 1st upcoming projects is cutting 2.5 - 2.75" thick planks)
The 1st two guild rails I bought are the same as your (Ron) two shorter sections, with the hardware to join two guild rails end-to-end.
I've learned the TS-75, being larger than the TS-55, requires more guild rail length for the same length cut.
**Now** I'm concerned if the 106" guild rail will be adequate for a TS-75 to cut a 96-97" cut.
Do you know Ron? ...else, I can contact Festool.
    Thanks

I don't have any experience with the TS-75. Maybe someone here will respond otherwise a search for max cut with FT TS-75 and FS 2700

Hi Ron, just wondering if you were to buy a new track saw system, which way would you go now?
I have one that is used mail for straight ripping rough cut hardwoods. Some of these pieces are long and many are not wide. So getting the track on these has to be secure and easy to do.
The problem I am having now is that my cuts are not consistent at 90 degrees. I am using a 12’ one piece track for use with my own saw. Works very well but as said, trouble with the squareness on edge. It is the Eurekazone track. Had it only for straight ripping stock.
You are creative. Any ideas on the best way to do this with thousands of board ft of lumber assuming I do not want to buy any straight rip table saw?

For me, I wouldn't even consider a track saw other than Festool. It is a system that I am invested in and it works for me. Sometimes if I have a project that is intensive for one thing and then I don't foresee doing it again or often then I will hire it out to a shop with the proper equipment or rent the necessary tool. I do this with CNC as I don't have the space or time to deal with large dedicate equipment like a sliding TS or CNC. Hope this helps, Ron😎

My home tab used to be filled with things I am interested in but now I'm afraid to watch something because the feed gets filled with similar videos when only the one I watched was interesting to me. SMH!

I don’t use the home tab except to explore and see trends. I click on the subscriptions tab. I watch the channels I am subscribed to and do my searches there as well. The home tab is algorithm generated based on what it thinks would interest you. It can be helpful, but I want more control over what I consume
