They never forget... I rescued a feral kitten when I was about 15. At 18 I left the cat with my folks where he would have a good life and traveled across the country and ended up staying there. I didn't see the cat again for 9 years. The cat recognized me immediately when I called him and wouldn't leave my lap. I took him back home with me where he lived out his final few years. I wish I had more time with him, he was a really cool cat.

I had to leave my cat in the care of my parents, when I moved away for a job, and could not find a pet friendly apartment. I visited often.... every 3 months or so. She definitely remembered me. However, when I went home once... my cat was not in her usual spot. When I asked my parents where she was.... they said... "Oh yah.. we put her down 3 weeks ago." No phone call from them at any time to tell me what was wrong or what was happening. They didn't even take her to a vet visit. Just decided... "We've had enough of this." I've never forgiven myself for leaving her there!💔 Just when you think you can trust your parents.... NOPE!!

My son left me and his cat for greener pastures as I have retained her. I have 3 cats that were abandoned and as I was abandoned by my partner of 7 yrs we all have a connection of abandonment. I am legally blind and bought her a car. Now she is in Texas with the car I got her. People are so 🤬
My wife and I have been running a animal rescue out of our house for a couple decades now. I can tell you that when you save a cats life, they become so grateful and believe it or not, loyal. Cats in general are solitary animals and want to be the only pet in the house but when you rescue them and save their lives, that loyalty will spur them to pack up in a big affectionate family. It’s amazing to watch.
I cringe every time I hear the word "rescue" because it's such a mixed definition. Rescuing cats on your own, from the outside or bad situations is always a great thing. But most of the rescues perpetuate an inverted animal welfare system by adopting No-Kill status and practice inhumane unethical and INEFFECTIVE TNR. Rescues and 501ce are out of control because they aren't regulated well at all. The ones I spent over 1000 hours at was quite corrupt.
I can confirm that this happens when you save a cat. Even if they aren’t used to living with other cats, they will adapt and find fellow cat companions that they want to spend time with. My Boomer was a shelter kitty, not used to other cats, and a former stray. Since I brought him into my home and later took in a few others, he waited a few days for them to adjust and then startsed sharing his toys and sleeping spaces with them. Eventually the new ones started snuggling close to him and play with him a lot. Cats are truly amazing creatures and even will try to help their humans in times of need (being upset, anxious, cold, sick, in pain, etc.)

When my mom passed, her cat was taken by my brothers girlfriend. 3 years later she abandoned the cat when she moved. The neighbor contacted my brother who went and picked him up and dropped him off at my sisters. A week later I picked him up and the moment he heard my voice and smelled my hand, he was in my lap. Had that old black cat for another 4 years before he passed. So lucky to have had him back.
I took my Mum’s cat after she died, he was the kitten of my cat that I had gotten as a young teenager, she was for my sister and I, but she chose me, she was my best friend, she even had her 5 of her 6 kittens on my duvet as we made her up a bed, but she had one kitten in it and then jumped back on the couch where I had been sleeping with her and she went into to labor, I couldn’t not let her do it as it was obviously what she felt safer on, I washed it the next day. She refused to keep them in the lounge room, 3 times she brought all 6 of them to my bedroom door and was crying, twice I took them back, and after she carried them one by one only about 6hrs after she had them, I created a safe space for them behind the top of my bed on the floor, she would come up for cuddles when she had fed them and they were asleep and as they got older for a break. When I moved out of home I took her with me, and about a year later I think she must’ve been hit by a car, as she used to try and follow me back to work, I looked for her for so long, it was brutal not knowing what happened to her. Her son I had for 18 months after Mum died and he was 18 when I had to put him down. I have had 5 rescue dogs since then.

A few years ago we found a stray kitten and looked after him for a while until someone who lives a few streets away agreed to adopt him. They kept him as an indoor cat so we didn't see the cat again. One day a couple of years later he must have got out, because I saw the (now adult) cat in the street (he had easily recognisable markings). I called out to him and he sat looking at me for a while, then he made a weird squeaky cry and ran over to me and rubbed madly against me while yowling and purring. They remember.
My father passed away 8 years ago and left behind a cat. I took the cat in and he is very happy to be cared for and petted constantly by my family. But sometimes I unintentionally make the same voice as my father did when I speak. To others, it seems like my father is talking, if my mother is to be believed. However, this cat runs to me every time this happens and looks at me with a "surprised face" even from outside or from the food bowl.

Every summer I go to the same place and stay there for two weeks. I love cats and I am very happy when my neighbours' cats come and visit, I feed them, I pet them if they let me. I go home and do not return for a year. Every time I get out of the car, these cats come and greet me and run to my house. They get to my front door before I do. Cats remember, they have a great memory, not only for their owners!
We have a tabby whose best friend was our bulldog. They took naps together, played together. It was our cat's habit to greet the dog every morning and every evening at the door. After our dog died, for 6 months our cat went to the door every morning and evening looking for his best friend
I know cats do remember. I had a cat that lost a toy that was found about 10 years later. The look in her eyes was priceless. She immediately started to play with her old toy in the same way. It was not the same as she remembered before, but she tried.
"Little Girl" was a young stray that adopted my wife and me. We will have her for the rest of her life. She is very well taken care of. We love her so much!
About 30 years ago we moved to Australia and brought our cat (Angie). She was quarantined for 6 months which time we were not allowed to visit her. When the quarantine was over we went to take her home. She jumped into my arms and buried her head in my armpit. I have never felt so much love. Many years ago, I moved to a different state, leaving my cat with my sister. Several years later she came to visit, bringing the cat along as a surprise for me (and for the cat it turned out). I was standing in the driveway when they pulled up. The moment she rolled down her window, my cat scrambled across her and out the car window. He climbed up on my shoulders, wrapped himself around my neck like a furry collar, and purred at full volume!😻😍
I lost a cat for 2 years and he just came strolling back one day. It was shortly after we moved with our 2 brother cats. I feared he tried to find the old house and got killed on the streets. After he came back, I surmised he was let in and kept by someone. It's anyone's guess why he came back, but I saw him walking toward me on the front sidewalk one day and called his name. He meowed back and just rejoined the fam like he'd always been there.
My husband passed in Aug, of 2023 and my cats still look for him to come in the front door. Even more so if I go out the front door they get in the windows in the front of the house and wait for me to return.
My cat remembered she hated my dad from the time she was a kitten until she died 14 years later. His sin? He picked her up and pet her as a kitten. She greeted him thereafter with a hiss and her paw up and ready to strike. There were gaps of several years between visits, but she still remembered and never forgave him for touching without permission.
Those people should get prison time, but they usually don't because people think they are much more special than other animals. Humans are actually the worst
I agree that intentional harm to pets is unacceptable. However, there are circumstances where people may have to make difficult decisions regarding their pets, and we can't fully understand their situations unless we've been in their shoes.
I had a Siamese cat, that we adopted after the previous owner had passed away. So she was about 6 years old when we got her. She was my mom's cat, because I am an over the road truck driver, and I am gone for several weeks at a time. So as the years went on, she became a cuddle bug, whereas when we first got her, she was a bit skiddish. Over time I was able to pick her up and she would just lay in my arms, the first few minutes of me getting back home. She slept on my bed with me, and we grew closer as time went on. I am sure she missed me while I was gone, I know I missed her. I loved playing with her feather on a stick and string, and she loved that time too. 😊 But I think she loved the midnight feedings the most. I am a late night person, so I was awake anyway, so when she came downstairs, she knew she would get food. Later, she would be in my bed, waiting for me. So, yes, cats remember you when you are gone. She passed away several years ago now, and I miss her a lot.
When I was a little boy our first cat was a tabby who was allowed to come and go and would very often spend the night outside. He led quite an independent life coming in for food and attention. One Christmas my parents went to a neighbour’s for drinks but decided to return via the bottom gate and walk home a different way. We started to become concerned that Kim had not come in for his dinner and after asking our immediate neighbours began to fear he had been hit by a car or attacked by a possum. After two days and no appearance we were beginning to give up when the neighbour where Mum & Dad had been to for drinks rang and asked “are you missing your cat? There has been a cat the same as yours that’s been sitting outside our front gate for the past two days.” It was indeed our Kim. He had followed my parents without their knowledge to the party and was waiting for them to come out. We were overjoyed as was Kim. This clearly demonstrated an attachment to us which we would never have previously appreciated. Despite his independent lifestyle he still had this extraordinary attachment to my parents and me.
We have a cat who went into a deep and clear depression after his lifelong buddy died of old age. He didn't come out of the depression until we brought in 2 so-to-be homeless kittens. The kittens are 4 years old and the old man plays with the brother and sister like he's a kitten again.
It's heartwarming to hear how your cat found solace and joy again after experiencing the loss of his lifelong buddy. Bringing in the two homeless kittens was undoubtedly a wonderful decision. It's incredible how the presence of companionship, even from younger ones, can uplift and rejuvenate older cats. Seeing your old man play with the brother and sister must be a beautiful sight indeed. my long time friend who i lived with for the past twenty years and we were taking care of my cancer survivor stroke victim father, he hung himself and now i take care of his cats, one disappeared the day he died, the rest gather ever so often where he hung himself, like they are waiting for him. I am sure one of his cats, his favorite ''Cali girl'', watched him hang himself because where he hung himself is where she would always hang out. Cali looks at me and then looks at where my friend hung himself and then looks back at me and gives me a really worried look. It is so sad, i break down almost everyday.
I had 2 cat brothers (very gentle breed) and another cat, same age of a different breed. One died at 15.5, the other at 17.5. The remaining one was nearly 17 and it was a big decision, should I get a friend for him. I bought a feisty Siamese in. But the Siamese and the 17 yr old were just like brothers. The youngster was gentle with him and appreciated his age as he got older. Well the 2 lived together 4 yrs til the eldest passed on at 21 yrs. It was definitely worth it to see him have a new brother in his senior years. Now the feisty Siamese is the elder of two and he has passed on the gentle traits of the elderly cat to the young "whippersnapper".
My husband was a dog person, until I came along with my 3 girls. He had 2 pups that I of course loved, but my girls quickly let know that they now ruled the roost 🤣. 13 yrs later, after losing my girls of 18 yrs, and our pups being on the other side of rainbow bridge to greet them as well, we have 2 kittens. It’s hubby’s first time having kittens and it’s so much fun experiencing them through him. He loved our girls but didn’t have the same bond since I raised them since birth before he came into my life. The bond he’s made with these guys is really cool and now I’m certain he’s been converted to the cat cult 😆(and if you’ve managed to read to the end, thank you 😻)
I had a fairly timid cat years ago that I really bonded with. She would sit next to other members of my family but I was the only one she would sit on. She would sleep most nights on the end of my bed and fall asleep on my lap while I watched t.v. I moved away for three years and she maintained her behavior with my family. Always being comfortable around them but not showing them much affection. The first time she saw me when I moved back home she literally ran and jumped into my arms. I'll never forget you Holly.
I live on a farm and one of our 3 cats didn't like the other cats so she left. A few years later I saw what I thought looked like her on a farm a few km away. So I stopped by, called her name and she came running and screaming at me

I adopted a kitten at around 2-3 months old from some friends who have barn cats. They came by to visit about 3 years later (they live 2 hours away so we don't see them often) and the normally shy cat was happy to see them and playful with them. She normally takes time to warm up to strangers. I'm sure she remembered her "first family."
When I came home after a deployment (1 year and it's first), when I got home our cat greeted me and immediately ran to my desk where he knew I kept his favorite toy, a laser pointer.
When I was in the Air Force, I would come back to my parents' house probably once every four years. Our cat always remembered me and would run up to me outside, roll around in front of me, and squeak lol. Never did meow, but that taught me they do have a long memory.

Cats can recover from a horrible past, but it takes patience and understanding to bring out their best self. I have a 7yo rescue that can attest to that. Yes, it has taken time, and a gentle hand and understanding, but she is a much happier cat now. As for human disappearance, after a few weeks or a month or so, they assume you are dead, and they generally go into grieving mode. I had to leave my 15yo baby for three months, it was clear she was in mourning when I re-united. Her eyes lit up as soon as she saw me.

@@Pet-in-the-Net Ah yes, it has been rewarding to see the change in her, and she continues to improve week by week, particularly with confidence. I jokingly tell her "look at you, being a normal cat and all". She has a very sweet and gentle nature, and I am fairly certain she was in a domestic violence household by her behaviours, then eight months in the rescue system with two fosters, two failed adoptions. I suspected it would be at least eight months for her to really settle and develop, and yes, it has been, but gradual improvement over all that time. She now knows this is her forever home, and nothing bad will happen to her, no one will be angry with her, or hit or yell at her. She is now more talkative (scared to do so initially), and even gives me nose bops. We are a bonded pair, and actually were from very early on.
I was in hospital for a month. Our dog stayed at my sisters while our cat stayed at home with other family checking in on him when my husband was away visiting me. When we finally made it home to stay the cat was ecstatic to have us back. Very vocal and cuddling.
A few years ago, a kitten I had given away 17 years earlier, showed up in the ditch in front of my house. He most likely hitched a ride back to my neighbors who had taken him for a friend. I called him by the name I had given him, and while he didn't come over, he acknowledged me. SEVENTEEN YEARS!!! And he was only 8 weeks old when I gave him away. It was nice to see him again.
It’s kind of funny. My little cat, the one that I’m closest with, gets mad at me if I’m gone for a week on vacation or something. When I first return home she kind of walks away from me for a day or two before coming back to me lol.
I had a male Siamese cat that I raised from a kitten as a college student. He was very loving & very attached to me. About 4 years later I got married, but my wife didn't like the cat & he could tell. Eventually, she forced me to sell him to a family with 2 cats & 2 active dogs. I went by the family's home about 6 months later to see my buddy. I was shocked and disappointed when he hardly seemed to even recognize me. It was as if the heavy stimulation of the kids, the dogs and the cats in the home had made all new memories in his head; he showed very little response to me. I was glad that he was obviously loved & happy in his new home; but I was also crushed by the loss of his attachment to me.
Very true. We’ve just adopted a stray that ran away from its previous owner, twice! Daisy found her way back to us after we returned her the first time. Unfortunately the second time she arrived with an injury that required immediate vet help. Cats have amazing memories!
My wife and I rescued a stray and she had 4 kitties. I they greet us every day when we come home from work, they follow us when we close the cattle gate, and they even like to sit in my spot on the couch when I’m not home. They remember.
My son left for university for FIVE years out of the country. My kitty is very stranger shy. He immediately went in for a hug, face press and kitty kisses on him when he returned.
I'm gratefull to be home with my cat 24/7. I'm 70 and retired. My daughter and granddaughter are at work and school during the week so it's me and my best friend always. The longest he's been alone in 4 years was about 2 or 3 hours. Usually we'd leave while he was sleeping. I love Punky like a son. A sweet orange tabby who has a wild streak as he is descended from feral cats. I respect his primal nature as much as his tenderness and ability to make us laugh.
Cats remember people for life, esp. those who love them and they love. I'm living with the cat of my best friend, who passed away last year. I can tell you, she will remember him for life and I'll always be her 2nd best friend/human. And I will go further and claim, that they also understand the spiritual aspect of life, they know when somebody passes away into the afterlife and they know, that human soul doesn't cease to exist, but continues to exist. After he passed away she was often starring at the ceiling. And several times she took the left-over piece of a candle from the commemoration service and brought it down, from where it stands. She didn't damage the candle in any way, nor did she play with it. Just brings it down several times. Like some way to join the spiritual commemoration of him.
This was helpful, thank you! My cat definitely misses me when I’m gone for a night or two. My grandmother tells me how much she meows when I’m gone and waits by the door. And when I come home, she’s very clingy and cuddly. I am not my cat’s original owner. She showed up at my doorstep one day and I was not able to get in contact with the previous owners who abandoned her, moved and changed their number registered to her microchip. I believe this is why my cat has separation anxiety. I do my best to give her plenty of love and attention when I am home. I also wonder if something happened to her before I rescued her, that caused her to hate being carried. I can’t hold her for longer than maybe 30 seconds before she’s meowing and squirming to get down. There are times when it is necessary to carry her and this makes it difficult. I hope nothing bad happened to her before me but this has certainly raised questions in my mind as to why she strongly dislikes being carried. I’ve had other cats in my life and most of them had no issue being carried.
I remember my first cat, and the time I went on a vacation for a few weeks. We left him at home (as to not make things too disruptive), and my grandparents visited every day to check up on him, feed him, and give him cuddles. When we got back from our vacation, he was so happy to see us. I miss him. He was a great cat, and an amazing friend.
I recently adopted a 10 year old cat who's owner had recently passed away. She likes her new home and we bond and cuddle, she's doing really good. But I can tell she really misses her previous servant.
That's very heart warming. My precious 4 year old cat disappeared over a month ago. We had a strong bond, mutual love and I continue to pray and search for him.

Approximately 4 years ago I was hospitalized with some lung problems and was gone for four months. Baby was so upset. My friend, who she adores, came over to five her food, water, pets, and love and scoop her box. She was happy I came home. Now, if two people are in my apartment, she thinks I’m going to go away again.
My cat passed away at 21 two years ago But my family was moving and my cat had to stay at my grandmas farm near an airport in town Jackson (my cat) managed to find his way to the airport and was found and turned into a vet by a bystander He had a chip in his ear so the vet contacted the number on file & we had finally found a new place So it all worked out he was a inside/outside cat but i viewed it as him trying to find his way back to us 💜💛 Love you Jackson 💜💛
My cat not only remembered me, but my cars engine sound. She never mistook any other car with that noise. If I was a block away, she was pumped for me to be there. Its so real it hurts to be loved that much.
My Auntie Kath's cat Frodo always used to disappear when workmen with blue overalls came in the house and didn't come back until they were gone. We think someone in blue overalls must have kicked him or something. Also, my cousin Mary, Kath's daughter, was given a stray cat after her old cat died. She called her Tina. Tina used to bite and scratch at first, but Mary was patient with her and eventually Tina became the most cuddly, affectionate cat you could wish to meet.
i have also a story. Not related to memory per se, but more about trust. The story is like this: My neighbor in the building own a cat, that is allowed to freeroam around the area. Now the owner isn't home all the time and the cat needs a human to open the doors. Now at one point i opened the door but the owner wasn't home for an extended period of time. however i let the cat into the staircase. The cat wasn't happy about that and started to avoid me. However sometimes it just slipped through the door with me. Fast forward 2 years, the cat now trust me again and allows me to pet it again. But now i make sure, to not lock up the cat in the staircase again. And yes, cats remember you for life.
My youngest son had a black cat, with a white bib, named Ebony. She had been his kitten from his age 11. He went away to college. She moped over him! After a long while, she started sleeping with my older son. But she was never really happy with that. She could not sleep with me, because I had one of her daughters, Copper, who was very territorial about my bedroom and me. When Jon came home, she was so happy! I told him, "Spend time with Ebony, she misses you!" But he was young and busy with his girlfriend and guy friends. He finally moved out and got a small apartment of his own. He took her to his apartment and he told me she rolled around on the floor and played like a kitten! She was so happy to be with him again!
Yer, my family Cat was very loyal. She used to wait for me every day after school in a bush near my house and walk home with me. When I was older I went away to Uni for periods of between 6 months to 1 year at a time. Even when I was gone for months, my cat apparently used to sit outside my room waiting for me most days. She always seemed very happy to see me when I did come home, purring and rubbing against me. She would also be straight back to sleeping on my bed again.
My brother had a beautiful part Siamese male. When my brother passed, his widow didn’t want the kitty. He seemed so unhappy with her, he hid under the bed all the time. I took him in. I already had 3 kitties. He totally changed at my house. He seems so much happier. He made best buds with one of mine. They chase each other through the house at night. I wonder if he remembers my brother. I talk to him in the same phrases he used.”Charlie’s a goodboy”…
My neighbours cat seems to recognise the sound of my car and apparently would meow to be let out of their house and would run up to the car and wait for me to make a fuss of it
Man, i had a friend watch my cat while i was getting my place back from house squatters. He had him for a year and a half. Motor passed away and i was on the verge of getting him back. Miss my lil bud.
When I had a cat she used to stay at home when I went on holiday. My neighbour would go in once a day to feed her, and the cat flap gave her continued access to the outdoors. While I was away she used to sleep on my bed rather than in her normal place downstairs, and she would continue to sleep on my bed for up to a week after my return. She also seemed to have some idea that something was about to happen when I got things out before the holiday and started packing.
My kids had to leave their 4 cats with us for about 5 months, and one day I realized they all considered our place their new home. One particularly took to our house and us. The instant the kids came back to get them, he ran and tried to hide. (Not because they are bad, but he knew they were going to take him from us.) When we first visited them, months after they left, he about knocked me over he bunted my shins so hard. I made an overnight trip recently, leaving for work at the normal time in the morning but not coming home. My two boys spent hours after dinner looking out the window for me to come home.
I pray my beloved cat remembers me and we can be together once again? 🤔 My situation has been quite overwhelming... I left a toxic job to take a mental break, only to lose my apartment of almost 10 1/2 years due to a major renovation to the building, after getting a lease termination! My only option was to find foster care for her, by a truly loving caretaker who understands. Then months later, while staying in my car and job searching, attempting to rebuild a life... I needed to return to N California to assist my elderly mother who has now been diagnosed with low-level dementia! Yes, one thing after another, for one year... thats how long I've been separated from my "girl"... It has been unbelievable how much it truly hurts not being able to have her at a time when I need her the most. I AM NOT willing to let go and give her up... she is part of the reason I go on with a giant unknown? Please DO NOT make cruel or nasty comments about my ordeal, I have suffered enough... but the love and well being of my beloved cat, Nikki has never wained... and I long to pet her, hold her, play with her, enjoy her sleeping on my lap and even clean her litter box! The separation has at times too much to handle, and as long as I know she is safe and cared for, I'm working to get her back... soon. Thank you for reading...

My neighbors have 2 homes. One in a far away state where they spend most of the year. When they do come here, their cat runs right to my house to look for me!

Neighbors had a cat that would visit my mom’s garden. I interacted with the cat. He had a loud purr but a quiet miaow. They moved away and took the cat. About seven years later, I was visiting my mom when I noticed a cat just outside the gate. I happened to speak to the cat although I could not identify it in the partial shadow. The cat bounced into the garden and over to me with quiet miaows. I recognised him right away and I made a fuss of him. I also noticed that in the intervening years he had lost a hind leg. His purr was still very loud and he enjoyed all of the attention I was giving him. They do remember people who are good to them and with who they made a strong attachment.

My family's cat disappeared without a trace. We figured that he must have died somewhere, but one morning - 8 months after he had disappeared - he showed up meowing at our sliding door, and instantly recognized all of us. He was very affectionate that day, and clearly happy to have made it home.

I was absent from my cats’ lives for a little while because of circumstances. They missed me and lost a lot of weight but when I came back and moved them all one by one to my new home, they all sleep with me, make sure I go to bed every night (sometimes forcibly with loud complaining or snuggling close and purring until I doze off), and they all are happier and healthier than when I left them with my family for that time. I feel bad that I had to leave them but in the end, my constant prescence in the room we all share before their move helped them adapt faster since it carried my scent and objects they were familiar with.
Nice video, it was always my impression that the cat mostly remember the activities and rituals instead of the person themselves. My male cat was sooo affectionate UNTIL I took him to the vet to be neutered. He literally gave me the cold shoulder for more than a year. He’s only now affectionate with me again
My sister has a cat. She had to go to the hospital then to a nursing home for a few months. Whenever I would go to her apartment to check on her cat he would always be found in the same place in the bathroom--in a basket full of towels. He would be constantly meowing. A neighbor would check on him daily and make sure he had food and water and clean his litter box. When my sister came home he was all over her and for a few days stayed very close to her.

I took my cat with me on holidays for the first time. We stayed in a big country house with other tourists. We were given a bigger bedroom so that my cat could some space. We stayed there for just 2 days and came back home. Short holidays! The following year I decided to spend the 2 day holiday in the same place. As soon as we got to the house, my cat rushed to the bedroom where we had stayed the yeat before! The receptionnist could not believe her eyes. Actially, we had been given the same bedroom again. ❤
It’s not just owners. I have a friend who had two feral shy cats who never came out from under her bed when visitors arrived. For a few months I stayed at her house to take care of the cats when she traveled. Five years later, I was in town and paid her a visit. We were talking in the kitchen when those shy cats heard my voice and immediately ran out to greet me.
My cat follows me everywhere, and she knows when it's time for bed. She's too cute! I adopted her. She's an elderly cat, but someone shot her with a bb gun and the vet told me it's been there a long time. I started crying. Who could do that.😢 She's still skittish but it's okay. She's beautiful to me and I love her little answers when I talk to her and it sounds like she says "yeah " and " mom" I'm happy I adopted her and gave her a safe, loving home. When I moved out of my parents house, I was gone for over a year at one point. The cat I grew up with never forgot who I was and was always overjoyed to see me. She'd sit on my lap as much as possible and sleep with me at night. And I might add that I was equally overjoyed to spend time with her again.
I left my cat with my mom for 9 months once to study abroad for two semesters. When I returned she was very skittish of me, and didn't want to return to our apartment. I took her there anyway, and fully expected to have to raise her all over again, with her believing I was a different person than I was before, and it was really kind of sad, I thought. I figured she'd get straight home and hide for a few days, but she slowly inspected everything and after about an hour or two, she was back in her favorite old spot napping, and no longer showed any fear or uncertainty toward me. She now remembered who I was, and we literally just picked back up right where we left off.

I rescued a feral kitten when I was about 15. At 18 I left the cat with my folks where he would have a good life and traveled across the country and ended up staying there. I didn't see the cat again for 9 years.
The cat recognized me immediately when I called him and wouldn't leave my lap. I took him back home with me where he lived out his final few years.
I wish I had more time with him, he was a really cool cat.

I had to leave my cat in the care of my parents, when I moved away for a job, and could not find a pet friendly apartment. I visited often.... every 3 months or so. She definitely remembered me. However, when I went home once... my cat was not in her usual spot. When I asked my parents where she was.... they said... "Oh yah.. we put her down 3 weeks ago." No phone call from them at any time to tell me what was wrong or what was happening. They didn't even take her to a vet visit. Just decided... "We've had enough of this." My wife and I have been running a animal rescue out of our house for a couple decades now. I can tell you that when you save a cats life, they become so grateful and believe it or not, loyal. Cats in general are solitary animals and want to be the only pet in the house but when you rescue them and save their lives, that loyalty will spur them to pack up in a big affectionate family. It’s amazing to watch.

I cringe every time I hear the word "rescue" because it's such a mixed definition. Rescuing cats on your own, from the outside or bad situations is always a great thing. But most of the rescues perpetuate an inverted animal welfare system by adopting No-Kill status and practice inhumane unethical and INEFFECTIVE TNR. Rescues and 501ce are out of control because they aren't regulated well at all. The ones I spent over 1000 hours at was quite corrupt.
Solitary hunters, yes. But they do like company - and that does include other cats.
I can confirm that this happens when you save a cat. Even if they aren’t used to living with other cats, they will adapt and find fellow cat companions that they want to spend time with.
My Boomer was a shelter kitty, not used to other cats, and a former stray. Since I brought him into my home and later took in a few others, he waited a few days for them to adjust and then startsed sharing his toys and sleeping spaces with them. Eventually the new ones started snuggling close to him and play with him a lot. Cats are truly amazing creatures and even will try to help their humans in times of need (being upset, anxious, cold, sick, in pain, etc.)

When my mom passed, her cat was taken by my brothers girlfriend. 3 years later she abandoned the cat when she moved. The neighbor contacted my brother who went and picked him up and dropped him off at my sisters. A week later I picked him up and the moment he heard my voice and smelled my hand, he was in my lap. Had that old black cat for another 4 years before he passed. So lucky to have had him back.

I took my Mum’s cat after she died, he was the kitten of my cat that I had gotten as a young teenager, she was for my sister and I, but she chose me, she was my best friend, she even had her 5 of her 6 kittens on my duvet as we made her up a bed, but she had one kitten in it and then jumped back on the couch where I had been sleeping with her and she went into to labor, I couldn’t not let her do it as it was obviously what she felt safer on, I washed it the next day. She refused to keep them in the lounge room, 3 times she brought all 6 of them to my bedroom door and was crying, twice I took them back, and after she carried them one by one only about 6hrs after she had them, I created a safe space for them behind the top of my bed on the floor, she would come up for cuddles when she had fed them and they were asleep and as they got older for a break. When I moved out of home I took her with me, and about a year later I think she must’ve been hit by a car, as she used to try and follow me back to work, I looked for her for so long, it was brutal not knowing what happened to her. Her son I had for 18 months after Mum died and he was 18 when I had to put him down. I have had 5 rescue dogs since then.

A few years ago we found a stray kitten and looked after him for a while until someone who lives a few streets away agreed to adopt him. They kept him as an indoor cat so we didn't see the cat again. One day a couple of years later he must have got out, because I saw the (now adult) cat in the street (he had easily recognisable markings). I called out to him and he sat looking at me for a while, then he made a weird squeaky cry and ran over to me and rubbed madly against me while yowling and purring. They remember.
My father passed away 8 years ago and left behind a cat. I took the cat in and he is very happy to be cared for and petted constantly by my family. But sometimes I unintentionally make the same voice as my father did when I speak. To others, it seems like my father is talking, if my mother is to be believed. However, this cat runs to me every time this happens and looks at me with a "surprised face" even from outside or from the food bowl.
Animals have a remarkable ability to recognize familiar voices and associate them with comfort and security. It's heartwarming to know that your cat feels so loved and cared for in your family's embrace.

Every summer I go to the same place and stay there for two weeks. I love cats and I am very happy when my neighbours' cats come and visit, I feed them, I pet them if they let me. I go home and do not return for a year. Every time I get out of the car, these cats come and greet me and run to my house. They get to my front door before I do. Cats remember, they have a great memory, not only for their owners!
We have a tabby whose best friend was our bulldog. They took naps together, played together. It was our cat's habit to greet the dog every morning and every evening at the door. After our dog died, for 6 months our cat went to the door every morning and evening looking for his best friend
I know cats do remember. I had a cat that lost a toy that was found about 10 years later. The look in her eyes was priceless. She immediately started to play with her old toy in the same way. It was not the same as she remembered before, but she tried.
"Little Girl" was a young stray that adopted my wife and me. We will have her for the rest of her life. She is very well taken care of. We love her so much!
About 30 years ago we moved to Australia and brought our cat (Angie). She was quarantined for 6 months which time we were not allowed to visit her. When the quarantine was over we went to take her home. She jumped into my arms and buried her head in my armpit. I have never felt so much love. Many years ago, I moved to a different state, leaving my cat with my sister. Several years later she came to visit, bringing the cat along as a surprise for me (and for the cat it turned out). I was standing in the driveway when they pulled up. The moment she rolled down her window, my cat scrambled across her and out the car window. He climbed up on my shoulders, wrapped himself around my neck like a furry collar, and purred at full volume!😻😍
I lost a cat for 2 years and he just came strolling back one day. It was shortly after we moved with our 2 brother cats. I feared he tried to find the old house and got killed on the streets. After he came back, I surmised he was let in and kept by someone. It's anyone's guess why he came back, but I saw him walking toward me on the front sidewalk one day and called his name. He meowed back and just rejoined the fam like he'd always been there.
My orange tabby cat just went missing five days ago, your story gives hope, I also suspect that he is being kept by someone. He's super friendly.
My husband passed in Aug, of 2023 and my cats still look for him to come in the front door. Even more so if I go out the front door they get in the windows in the front of the house and wait for me to return.

My cat remembered she hated my dad from the time she was a kitten until she died 14 years later. His sin? He picked her up and pet her as a kitten. She greeted him thereafter with a hiss and her paw up and ready to strike. There were gaps of several years between visits, but she still remembered and never forgave him for touching without permission.

I had a Siamese cat, that we adopted after the previous owner had passed away. So she was about 6 years old when we got her. She was my mom's cat, because I am an over the road truck driver, and I am gone for several weeks at a time. So as the years went on, she became a cuddle bug, whereas when we first got her, she was a bit skiddish. Over time I was able to pick her up and she would just lay in my arms, the first few minutes of me getting back home. She slept on my bed with me, and we grew closer as time went on. I am sure she missed me while I was gone, I know I missed her. I loved playing with her feather on a stick and string, and she loved that time too. 😊 But I think she loved the midnight feedings the most. I am a late night person, so I was awake anyway, so when she came downstairs, she knew she would get food. Later, she would be in my bed, waiting for me. So, yes, cats remember you when you are gone. She passed away several years ago now, and I miss her a lot.
When I was a little boy our first cat was a tabby who was allowed to come and go and would very often spend the night outside. He led quite an independent life coming in for food and attention.
One Christmas my parents went to a neighbour’s for drinks but decided to return via the bottom gate and walk home a different way.
We started to become concerned that Kim had not come in for his dinner and after asking our immediate neighbours began to fear he had been hit by a car or attacked by a possum.
After two days and no appearance we were beginning to give up when the neighbour where Mum & Dad had been to for drinks rang and asked “are you missing your cat? There has been a cat the same as yours that’s been sitting outside our front gate for the past two days.”
It was indeed our Kim. He had followed my parents without their knowledge to the party and was waiting for them to come out.
We were overjoyed as was Kim. This clearly demonstrated an attachment to us which we would never have previously appreciated. Despite his independent lifestyle he still had this extraordinary attachment to my parents and me.

We have a cat who went into a deep and clear depression after his lifelong buddy died of old age.
He didn't come out of the depression until we brought in 2 so-to-be homeless kittens.
The kittens are 4 years old and the old man plays with the brother and sister like he's a kitten again.

my long time friend who i lived with for the past twenty years and we were taking care of my cancer survivor stroke victim father, he hung himself and now i take care of his cats, one disappeared the day he died, the rest gather ever so often where he hung himself, like they are waiting for him. I am sure one of his cats, his favorite ''Cali girl'', watched him hang himself because where he hung himself is where she would always hang out. Cali looks at me and then looks at where my friend hung himself and then looks back at me and gives me a really worried look. It is so sad, i break down almost everyday.
I had 2 cat brothers (very gentle breed) and another cat, same age of a different breed. One died at 15.5, the other at 17.5. The remaining one was nearly 17 and it was a big decision, should I get a friend for him. I bought a feisty Siamese in. But the Siamese and the 17 yr old were just like brothers. The youngster was gentle with him and appreciated his age as he got older. Well the 2 lived together 4 yrs til the eldest passed on at 21 yrs. It was definitely worth it to see him have a new brother in his senior years. Now the feisty Siamese is the elder of two and he has passed on the gentle traits of the elderly cat to the young "whippersnapper".

My husband was a dog person, until I came along with my 3 girls. I had a fairly timid cat years ago that I really bonded with. She would sit next to other members of my family but I was the only one she would sit on. She would sleep most nights on the end of my bed and fall asleep on my lap while I watched t.v.

I adopted a kitten at around 2-3 months old from some friends who have barn cats. They came by to visit about 3 years later (they live 2 hours away so we don't see them often) and the normally shy cat was happy to see them and playful with them. She normally takes time to warm up to strangers. I'm sure she remembered her "first family."
When I came home after a deployment (1 year and it's first), when I got home our cat greeted me and immediately ran to my desk where he knew I kept his favorite toy, a laser pointer.
When I was in the Air Force, I would come back to my parents' house probably once every four years. Our cat always remembered me and would run up to me outside, roll around in front of me, and squeak lol. Never did meow, but that taught me they do have a long memory.

Cats can recover from a horrible past, but it takes patience and understanding to bring out their best self. I have a 7yo rescue that can attest to that. Yes, it has taken time, and a gentle hand and understanding, but she is a much happier cat now.
As for human disappearance, after a few weeks or a month or so, they assume you are dead, and they generally go into grieving mode. I had to leave my 15yo baby for three months, it was clear she was in mourning when I re-united. Her eyes lit up as soon as she saw me.

@@Pet-in-the-Net Ah yes, it has been rewarding to see the change in her, and she continues to improve week by week, particularly with confidence. I jokingly tell her "look at you, being a normal cat and all".
She has a very sweet and gentle nature, and I am fairly certain she was in a domestic violence household by her behaviours, then eight months in the rescue system with two fosters, two failed adoptions. I suspected it would be at least eight months for her to really settle and develop, and yes, it has been, but gradual improvement over all that time. She now knows this is her forever home, and nothing bad will happen to her, no one will be angry with her, or hit or yell at her.
She is now more talkative (scared to do so initially), and even gives me nose bops. We are a bonded pair, and actually were from very early on.
I was in hospital for a month. Our dog stayed at my sisters while our cat stayed at home with other family checking in on him when my husband was away visiting me. When we finally made it home to stay the cat was ecstatic to have us back. Very vocal and cuddling.
A few years ago, a kitten I had given away 17 years earlier, showed up in the ditch in front of my house. He most likely hitched a ride back to my neighbors who had taken him for a friend. I called him by the name I had given him, and while he didn't come over, he acknowledged me. SEVENTEEN YEARS!!! And he was only 8 weeks old when I gave him away. It was nice to see him again.
I left home for well around 2 years and came back and my cat was on my lap and nuzzling me just as before. He remembered me for sure!
It’s kind of funny. My little cat, the one that I’m closest with, gets mad at me if I’m gone for a week on vacation or something. When I first return home she kind of walks away from me for a day or two before coming back to me lol.
I had a male Siamese cat that I raised from a kitten as a college student. He was very loving & very attached to me. About 4 years later I got married, but my wife didn't like the cat & he could tell. Eventually, she forced me to sell him to a family with 2 cats & 2 active dogs. I went by the family's home about 6 months later to see my buddy. I was shocked and disappointed when he hardly seemed to even recognize me. It was as if the heavy stimulation of the kids, the dogs and the cats in the home had made all new memories in his head; he showed very little response to me. I was glad that he was obviously loved & happy in his new home; but I was also crushed by the loss of his attachment to me.
Very true. We’ve just adopted a stray that ran away from its previous owner, twice! Daisy found her way back to us after we returned her the first time. Unfortunately the second time she arrived with an injury that required immediate vet help. Cats have amazing memories!

My wife and I rescued a stray and she had 4 kitties. I they greet us every day when we come home from work, they follow us when we close the cattle gate, and they even like to sit in my spot on the couch when I’m not home. They remember.
My son left for university for FIVE years out of the country. My kitty is very stranger shy. He immediately went in for a hug, face press and kitty kisses on him when he returned.

I'm gratefull to be home with my cat 24/7. I'm 70 and retired. My daughter and granddaughter are at work and school during the week so it's me and my best friend always. The longest he's been alone in 4 years was about 2 or 3 hours. Usually we'd leave while he was sleeping. I love Punky like a son. A sweet orange tabby who has a wild streak as he is descended from feral cats. I respect his primal nature as much as his tenderness and ability to make us laugh.
Cats remember people for life, esp. those who love them and they love.
I'm living with the cat of my best friend, who passed away last year. I can tell you, she will remember him for life and I'll always be her 2nd best friend/human.
And I will go further and claim, that they also understand the spiritual aspect of life, they know when somebody passes away into the afterlife and they know, that human soul doesn't cease to exist, but continues to exist.
After he passed away she was often starring at the ceiling.
And several times she took the left-over piece of a candle from the commemoration service and brought it down, from where it stands. She didn't damage the candle in any way, nor did she play with it. Just brings it down several times. Like some way to join the spiritual commemoration of him.

I am not my cat’s original owner. She showed up at my doorstep one day and I was not able to get in contact with the previous owners who abandoned her, moved and changed their number registered to her microchip. I believe this is why my cat has separation anxiety. I do my best to give her plenty of love and attention when I am home. I also wonder if something happened to her before I rescued her, that caused her to hate being carried. I can’t hold her for longer than maybe 30 seconds before she’s meowing and squirming to get down. There are times when it is necessary to carry her and this makes it difficult. I hope nothing bad happened to her before me but this has certainly raised questions in my mind as to why she strongly dislikes being carried. I’ve had other cats in my life and most of them had no issue being carried.
I remember my first cat, and the time I went on a vacation for a few weeks. We left him at home (as to not make things too disruptive), and my grandparents visited every day to check up on him, feed him, and give him cuddles. When we got back from our vacation, he was so happy to see us. I miss him. He was a great cat, and an amazing friend.
I recently adopted a 10 year old cat who's owner had recently passed away. She likes her new home and we bond and cuddle, she's doing really good. But I can tell she really misses her previous servant.
There have been stories of cats walking thousands of miles back to find their owner after being separated.
That's very heart warming. My precious 4 year old cat disappeared over a month ago. We had a strong bond, mutual love and I continue to pray and search for him.

Approximately 4 years ago I was hospitalized with some lung problems and was gone for four months. Baby was so upset. My friend, who she adores, came over to five her food, water, pets, and love and scoop her box. She was happy I came home. Now, if two people are in my apartment, she thinks I’m going to go away again.
My cat passed away at 21 two years ago
But my family was moving and my cat had to stay at my grandmas farm near an airport in town
Jackson (my cat) managed to find his way to the airport and was found and turned into a vet by a bystander
He had a chip in his ear so the vet contacted the number on file & we had finally found a new place
So it all worked out he was a inside/outside cat but i viewed it as him trying to find his way back to us 💜💛

My cat not only remembered me, but my cars engine sound. She never mistook any other car with that noise. If I was a block away, she was pumped for me to be there.
Its so real it hurts to be loved that much.
My Auntie Kath's cat Frodo always used to disappear when workmen with blue overalls came in the house and didn't come back until they were gone. We think someone in blue overalls must have kicked him or something. Also, my cousin Mary, Kath's daughter, was given a stray cat after her old cat died. She called her Tina. Tina used to bite and scratch at first, but Mary was patient with her and eventually Tina became the most cuddly, affectionate cat you could wish to meet.
I hadn't seen the family cat for 4 years while i was over seas. When I came back she remembered me and ran up to me meowing.
i have also a story. Not related to memory per se, but more about trust. The story is like this: My neighbor in the building own a cat, that is allowed to freeroam around the area. Now the owner isn't home all the time and the cat needs a human to open the doors. Now at one point i opened the door but the owner wasn't home for an extended period of time. however i let the cat into the staircase. The cat wasn't happy about that and started to avoid me. However sometimes it just slipped through the door with me. Fast forward 2 years, the cat now trust me again and allows me to pet it again.
But now i make sure, to not lock up the cat in the staircase again.
And yes, cats remember you for life.
My youngest son had a black cat, with a white bib, named Ebony. She had been his kitten from his age 11. He went away to college. She moped over him! After a long while, she started sleeping with my older son. But she was never really happy with that. She could not sleep with me, because I had one of her daughters, Copper, who was very territorial about my bedroom and me. When Jon came home, she was so happy! I told him, "Spend time with Ebony, she misses you!" But he was young and busy with his girlfriend and guy friends. He finally moved out and got a small apartment of his own. He took her to his apartment and he told me she rolled around on the floor and played like a kitten! She was so happy to be with him again!
Yer, my family Cat was very loyal. She used to wait for me every day after school in a bush near my house and walk home with me.
When I was older I went away to Uni for periods of between 6 months to 1 year at a time. Even when I was gone for months, my cat apparently used to sit outside my room waiting for me most days.
She always seemed very happy to see me when I did come home, purring and rubbing against me. She would also be straight back to sleeping on my bed again.
My brother had a beautiful part Siamese male. When my brother passed, his widow didn’t want the kitty. He seemed so unhappy with her, he hid under the bed all the time. I took him in. I already had 3 kitties. He totally changed at my house. He seems so much happier. He made best buds with one of mine. They chase each other through the house at night. My neighbours cat seems to recognise the sound of my car and apparently would meow to be let out of their house and would run up to the car and wait for me to make a fuss of it
Man, i had a friend watch my cat while i was getting my place back from house squatters. He had him for a year and a half. Motor passed away and i was on the verge of getting him back. Miss my lil bud.
When I had a cat she used to stay at home when I went on holiday. My neighbour would go in once a day to feed her, and the cat flap gave her continued access to the outdoors. While I was away she used to sleep on my bed rather than in her normal place downstairs, and she would continue to sleep on my bed for up to a week after my return. She also seemed to have some idea that something was about to happen when I got things out before the holiday and started packing.
My kids had to leave their 4 cats with us for about 5 months, and one day I realized they all considered our place their new home. One particularly took to our house and us. The instant the kids came back to get them, he ran and tried to hide. (Not because they are bad, but he knew they were going to take him from us.) When we first visited them, months after they left, he about knocked me over he bunted my shins so hard.
I made an overnight trip recently, leaving for work at the normal time in the morning but not coming home. My two boys spent hours after dinner looking out the window for me to come home.
I pray my beloved cat remembers me and we can be together once again? 🤔
My situation has been quite overwhelming... I left a toxic job to take a mental break, only to lose my apartment of almost 10 1/2 years due to a major renovation to the building, after getting a lease termination!
My only option was to find foster care for her, by a truly loving caretaker who understands.
Then months later, while staying in my car and job searching, attempting to rebuild a life... I needed to return to N California to assist my elderly mother who has now been diagnosed with low-level dementia!
Yes, one thing after another, for one year... thats how long I've been separated from my "girl"...
It has been unbelievable how much it truly hurts not being able to have her at a time when I need her the most.
I AM NOT willing to let go and give her up... she is part of the reason I go on with a giant unknown?
Please DO NOT make cruel or nasty comments about my ordeal, I have suffered enough... but the love and well being of my beloved cat, Nikki has never wained... and I long to pet her, hold her, play with her, enjoy her sleeping on my lap and even clean her litter box!
The separation has at times too much to handle, and as long as I know she is safe and cared for, I'm working to get her back... soon.

My neighbors have 2 homes. One in a far away state where they spend most of the year. When they do come here, their cat runs right to my house to look for me!

Neighbors had a cat that would visit my mom’s garden. I interacted with the cat. He had a loud purr but a quiet miaow. They moved away and took the cat.
About seven years later, I was visiting my mom when I noticed a cat just outside the gate. I happened to speak to the cat although I could not identify it in the partial shadow.
The cat bounced into the garden and over to me with quiet miaows. I recognised him right away and I made a fuss of him. I also noticed that in the intervening years he had lost a hind leg. His purr was still very loud and he enjoyed all of the attention I was giving him.
They do remember people who are good to them and with who they made a strong attachment.
Aside from the cat stuff, I like how you immediately answer the question. Most videos where they pose a question they spend 10 minutes with the history of the topic before even starting to answer it.
My family's cat disappeared without a trace. We figured that he must have died somewhere, but one morning - 8 months after he had disappeared - he showed up meowing at our sliding door, and instantly recognized all of us. He was very affectionate that day, and clearly happy to have made it home.

I’ve taught my Siamese cat over 20 short sentences and 40 words. He’s a genius. Never leaves my side and waits at the door when I leave with his favourite toy, brings his favourite toy to bed beside me when it’s our bedtime, we get up together and I just say bedtime, and he comes running.

Cats are as loyal as dogs. They have all the emotions as us humans. Cats love deeply and show it. They miss you and show it. A true cat person doesn't need someone to " research" this.

A few weeks ago one of my foster kitties, from three years ago, showed up at my front door. He talked up a storm, and is now mine.
Cats are very smart creatures...they all have unique personalities and when they love you, it's unconditional love.
I lived with my friend and her kitty for the first couple years of her life. Then we moved to different apartments in 2022. I visit my friend sometimes, but not that often. Visited her last weekend for the first time in like a year. Was really scared the kitty already forgot me. But she definitely remembered me and slept on my chest at night, which she would NEVER do for people she doesn't like or know. That made me so happy 🥺 God I love cats so much!!💕

One of my cats got out. And was gone for 6 weeks. I saw him, but could notget to him. But once i did, and brought him back inside, he seemed to remember his home and me. I agree with your comments. Really enjoyed the video.😊 my cats are my world.
I was absent from my cats’ lives for a little while because of circumstances. They missed me and lost a lot of weight but when I came back and moved them all one by one to my new home, they all sleep with me, make sure I go to bed every night (sometimes forcibly with loud complaining or snuggling close and purring until I doze off), and they all are happier and healthier than when I left them with my family for that time. I feel bad that I had to leave them but in the end, my constant prescence in the room we all share before their move helped them adapt faster since it carried my scent and objects they were familiar with.
They remember their people forever

Nice video, it was always my impression that the cat mostly remember the activities and rituals instead of the person themselves. My cat stayed at my moms house when I moved out to study, but whenever I was back she would sleep with me and sit on my lap while I was at my desk, just like the gold old days. I still have a picture of her on my desk, RIP ♥

My sister has a cat. She had to go to the hospital then to a nursing home for a few months. Whenever I would go to her apartment to check on her cat he would always be found in the same place in the bathroom--in a basket full of towels. He would be constantly meowing. A neighbor would check on him daily and make sure he had food and water and clean his litter box. When my sister came home he was all over her and for a few days stayed very close to her.

I took my cat with me on holidays for the first time. We stayed in a big country house with other tourists. We were given a bigger bedroom so that my cat could some space. We stayed there for just 2 days and came back home. Short holidays! The following year I decided to spend the 2 day holiday in the same place. As soon as we got to the house, my cat rushed to the bedroom where we had stayed the yeat before! The receptionnist could not believe her eyes. Actially, we had been given the same bedroom again. ❤
It’s not just owners. I have a friend who had two feral shy cats who never came out from under her bed when visitors arrived. For a few months I stayed at her house to take care of the cats when she traveled. Five years later, I was in town and paid her a visit. We were talking in the kitchen when those shy cats heard my voice and immediately ran out to greet me.
My cat follows me everywhere, and she knows when it's time for bed. She's too cute! I adopted her. She's an elderly cat, but someone shot her with a bb gun and the vet told me it's been there a long time. I started crying. Who could do that.😢 She's still skittish but it's okay. She's beautiful to me and I love her little answers when I talk to her and it sounds like she says "yeah " and " mom"
I'm happy I adopted her and gave her a safe, loving home. I feel animals are smart, and if you watch your pet and what they are doing, they will tell you things through their own way.❤

When I moved out of my parents house, I was gone for over a year at one point. The cat I grew up with never forgot who I was and was always overjoyed to see me. She'd sit on my lap as much as possible and sleep with me at night. And I might add that I was equally overjoyed to spend time with her again.
I left my cat with my mom for 9 months once to study abroad for two semesters. When I returned she was very skittish of me, and didn't want to return to our apartment. I took her there anyway, and fully expected to have to raise her all over again, with her believing I was a different person than I was before, and it was really kind of sad, I thought. I figured she'd get straight home and hide for a few days, but she slowly inspected everything and after about an hour or two, she was back in her favorite old spot napping, and no longer showed any fear or uncertainty toward me. She now remembered who I was, and we literally just picked back up right where we left off.
