Depends on player's mentality imo. If you don't care about scoring high on guild boss, Sea of Souls, this game is quite friendly to F2P. You can just pull the characters themselves and forget about dupes or weapons. You should be fine doing main story palaces. If you are a competitive player who cares about PvP, things are different. The game pretty much sets up PvP boss fights for the newest characters so you won't get a high score if you don't pull from limited banners. Also you need to pull weapons and go for dupes to be competitive. In other words, you need to pay to win for PvP. I am in a competitive guild myself in TW server and l'd say people are overall not enjoying much the PvP side of things. People just want to enjoy persona games' story and characters. The daily life with activity points are more important in my opinion and they are free. So my advice is stay F2P because you don't need to go for PvP. For myself I spend because I want to support persona games in future. I want to play Persona 6, 7, 8, 9, and so on. For spenders I recommend just buying the packs with 2 things on it. First, it must have discounts. Second, it must give you currency to pull from limited banners. So if you see a pack that gives you currency for weapon banner/character's limited banner and it says 30% discount on the upper right corner, usually they are good buys. If you keep buying those packs you don't ever need to worry about skipping things anymore. You should be able to get a character and weapon as long as you don't get dupes. Dupes are for whales and competitive players. About power-creep, I think it's too early to sense any. the game is out about 3 months and the early free 4-star characters are still going strong. 5-star characters from standard pool are still pretty competitive. Rin and Riddle can be seen in PvP top scores. Panther pretty much monopolizes anything weak to fire. Skull is the most niche of 5-star but still I won't say he's weak. Skull just needs an environment where he shines. Game may setup a boss for him so who knows? At the end I'd say new players don't need to worry about anything. Go F2P and enjoy :)

This game can be played without spending any money. You only need to spend money if you just want to do things faster. It's your own choice. Persona has a golden standard for spin-offs and this game is no exception. This game is going to get a lot more content in the future because this game makes a lot of money and we haven't even gotten the worldwide release yet
I agree to disagree when it comes to Joker, for example we have the raidens in hoyoverse games they definitely should’ve made him similar to what they do with her (busted in every universe) but what can be expected when he was the first limited
yeah i see what you mean for raiden though in majority of gachas especially coming to the main characters/1st big 5 stars they never fully represent what their capable of. For example rover in wuwa/ aether and lumine in genshin. Goku in dokkan especially if were taking like beginning of the series in account. Normally its iffy if theyll fully follow the material. Eventually maybe though i can see a satanael joker being dummy
Wish u have proper calculation of each patch pulls income for clearer data. HSR gives average 100 pulls each patch, sometimes 120-130. If this game gives as much really good. But then again this game still update their standard, unlike HSR. So less gems still acceptable.
It been awhile since ive played p5x, but one thing that irked me the wrong way was how luffy/ruferu/the owl was genuinely just an awful healer, to the point where not having morgana would increase your wonder level grind by about 10x so you could have decent survivability against the second palace bosses. Very few ppl didn't have morgana which is why i believe this wasn't brought up that much, but as someone that did not, it did admitted sap away a lot of the fun that i was having with the game, considering the stamina would limit your leveling up(back then stamina was 180 i believe). Of course, you are guaranteed a 5 star character between the original phantom thief trio(morgana, ann, ryuji), but someone who will be starting the game blindly will not be aware of how valuable morgana rly is. Since then, i believe more healers have been added, but nevertheless, just replace luffy as soon as possible, believe me, the game becomes a lot more enjoyable as a f2p player when you do. Every other free character does a decent job besides luffy, which i find rly odd.
Luffy is a Attack Support/Healer hybrid, who later becomes a fire damage supporter as well. He's worse than Mona for healing but offers up Attack Boosts and increases to fire damage with dupes, so he's really good in fire teams as a supporter who can heal, but not a lot else, which is what makes him suffer a bit as your only starter healer.

Survivability with only luffy might be possible if you build puppet and soy and spam their shields(also yosuke), but otherwise, you'll have to content yourself to doing dalies for a few weeks until you're high level enough to be tanking shit naturally. All in all just get morgana from the starting banner lol. Hopefully by the time it has been localized, story bosses will be less absurd with their damage.
Unlike a lot of other gacha games, the game is actually 100% playable as a F2P, the only thing I would say that is P2W locked is getting top 1% the leaderboards since you basically need a perfect team for that stuff with probably max dupes on every character. The only problem I have is I wish there was more ways to earn gems especially now since we have Phoebe out right now, Riko coming soon for her dupes in the banner, the summer units AND Futaba all in roughly a month, as a F2P it’s quite hard to keep up with every 5-Star coming out but other than that the game is definitely perfectly playable completely F2P.
Yeah total F2P will need to skip some characters because there simply isn't enough free crystals/gems. However the funny thing is even whales are suffering from all the limited banner bombardment. Just like you said the competitive side needs the perfect team so whales will need to pull all the new characters + dupes. That means wallet will suffer and whales don't like this. Some whales are already dropping the game because their wallets reach their limit. I hope this continuous limited banner won't be a thing in the future. Both F2P and P2W players don't like this.

I was able to get them with 8-10k gems with 20-30 tickets total for these characters. so ..Yeah this stretegy thankfully works. I am blessed I was able to get Fox/Queens 5star too! didnt get Jokers though but his 4star is more than enough. so he's still powerful. I'll might to do this whenever Global comes around the same way too.

Arai is almost like Ann, she had a strong character depth but became underdeveloped after First Palace, but Still liked them as characters. Hopefully Riko turns out a good character. I personally pulled for og P5 chars because I'm a huge fan of P5. like I said as a f2p strategy! and I am the type to pull for favorites in gachas. There is definitely some npc character id love to pull Though. depends if they're limited or for what Team build I'm lacking.
This game feels super ftp I could just be lucky but I’m missing only 4 5stars 3 of them are limited and I have 4 max out four stars and with the new update I’ll be able to get a 5*character and their weapon Can’t wait for the p3 and p4 collabs do protagonists team willl go crazy
From what I remember his wep or passive stacks incorrectly which doesn't fully hinder him but it does hurt his game play and his overall kit. Which if im right the buff will alter it and his kit making him better than what he was
