- This weeks prompt is 'Chaos'. Try and create as many layers as you can. Be brave and keep going with it, even if your page doesn't look all that great to start with! i look forward to seeing what you create!
I made some ATC's with the heavily textured background I ended up with half way through and here's the link to the video: • Artist Trading Cards A...

I'm so thankful that you talked us through your whole thought process. Too many artists do all of these thought in their head, and those less experienced of us never understand WHY the next layer is added over another layer. I'm ever so thankful for you and you freely sharing! Also I just LOVE the way the stars had the same pattern yet looked differently because of the glazing paint!! Bravo!
Thanks for your lovely comment Leslie. Sometimes I doubt whether I should include some of my waffle, and its comments like yours that assure me I should keep it in :) I'm glad you like how this project turned out! :) xox
I just absolutely love ❤️ both pages!!!!!! They're both so beautiful and awesome and gorgeous. Thank you so much Nina I love ❤️ you're work
Awww, thanks so much Mags. You always leave such lovely and inspiring comments and I really appreciate them! :) xx
WOW... what an incredible coincidence or affirmation this week's art journal layout is... just last night I finally started playing with my Dylusion products in my art journal and thought of you while I added various elements to the page... the only word that kept coming to mind while trying to figure out either the quote for the layout or what to do next to "finish" the page was "CHAOS" ... now I know to just keep playing and use the quote "Create Beautiful Chaos". Thanks so much for taking your time to share your creativity and thought process with us. Have a great day!
I love how both backgrounds turned out, and I look forward to see you doing the ATCs ! You inspire me with your projects. Stay inspired, Nina!
+cheryl7476 Thanks so much for another lovely comment Cheryl. You inspire me to continue with your supportive feedback! I really do appreciate it ❤️
It always amazes me, as a beginner to multi media projects, how all the random colors, shapes, and patterns turn into incredible pieces such as the one you have done here. I love all the tips and tricks you use along the way--so helpful! I would never have thought about photocopying the original and adding more to it. I've watched 100's of these types of videos and you are first one I've come across with that suggestion. They are all fabulous pages, but my favorite is the overall background with the added patterns to it. Thanks for sharing your he(art)!!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Diana. Its good to hear that some of the tips are helpful to you. I tend to go off in all kinds of tangents along the way!
Another stunning journal page, I enjoyed the different stages , but I loved the one with the stars on , the white really made it pop ,. Thank you again Nina it was lovely relaxing after my busy week of crafting with friends,,. Xxxx
+Anne Faint Thanks Annie. This one took a few twists and turns! Xxxx
Another thing I meant to say is that is a good idea to photo copy the main background,,,.xx
Both pages are terrific - but I think your instinct was spot on. It's gorgeous at the end. :) Thanks again for being brave for those of us who tread lightly . . . and giving us courage to keep on keeping on!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Donna. More is definitely more! :)
Thank you so much Nina, I really really love ❤️ all those versions, but the one at the end, was really really stunning and gorgeous too. And the stars ⭐️ are stunning too. I’ve watched this before but, that was some time ago, and I’ve really really enjoyed watching this again. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thanks so much Mags, this one certainly evolved 🤣💕 xxxx
I love this video!!! Love that it shows your complete process, beginning to end, and your thoughts along the way. It also shows that not all pieces are so simple and straightforward...it is a working process until you reach that point in which you're satisfied and happy with the outcome. Thanks so much for sharing...it turned out beautifully! 😃🔆
My favorite is the rich page with all the depth shown after you displayed the one with larger stars. I really like that you demonstrated how to use your background after making copies. I can't wait to try this in different stages. Thank you so much for sharing, Nina !
I'm so glad this was helpful to you Patricia. This was a useful exercise for me too!
The colors make me Happy I LOVE THE ALL really love the one with the spirals , then you come in with stars,
Thanks so much Ann. I just love adding layer upon layer :)
It's beautiful ! I liked the one with the stars, because once these were added it created lots of different shapes to the page if you continue to stare at it your eyes get drawn to the lovely shapes so you get a " double wammy"! x
Thanks Betty. Glad you like it x
I love this Nina. The original that you photocopied is amazing, then you took it to another level again, thanks so much for sharing your process.😊❤️
+Helen Tucker Thanks for your lovely comment Helen. This has definitely taught me that perseverance pays dividends! 😊
Adding the stars was very creative, Nina. Just wowza on that background! Be brave is great advice.
Thanks Lyn. This was a very fun project!
You made the right choice by going to the end. Love the stars, the colors and texture are amazing. Can't wait until our move is over to do these amazing prompts.
Thanks for your lovely comment Michelle. It must be so frustrating not being able to get to your art supplies. I hope your move goes well!
More GORGEOUS work Nina. Just love the colours in these - they would brighten any day. I really couldn't decide which one I liked best.
Thanks for your kind comment Sarah :)
Wonderful. I love when you keep going on something your not sure of and it turns out gorgeous. The blue spirals and white stars make a big impact. Love, love it. In for a penny in for a pound, I just love that English expression. Thank you Nina for your videos.
Thanks Dawn! This ended up going in a completely different direction to the one I initially had in my head!
I knew you'd finish strong Nina! You always push through your fears and end with a beautiful piece to share! The stars were frosting on the cake! Oh by the way, the sweater you were wearing is gorgeous!
Thanks for your lovely comment Linda. I had an idea in my head at the beginning, and ended up in a completely different direction to what I had planned! So glad you like it :)
I love the stars. Thank you for showing all the possible stopping points and different directions the piece could be changed into!
+Bridgett Wonder Thanks for your kind comment Bridgett. Glad you enjoyed the process! 😊
What a fun page. I love these sort of pages when it's just playing with whatever comes to mind. Thank you Nina. Great results.
Thanks Maria. As you could see, I struggled with this at first because I had an idea in my head and right from the start it just wasn't looking as I expected, and I kept thinking I should have used the Dylusions sprays. I'm so glad I kept going though as I have so many ideas for these backgrounds!
I wasn't sure where this was going, Nina, but oh my! How I LOVE what you've created! A gorgeous mixed media piece of art! I love how you finished it off with the stars! Stunning!
Thanks Roberta. I wasn't at all sure where I was going with this. I had an idea in my head for this page, and right from the start, it just didn't go as I expected. I kept thinking I should have used Dylusions sprays initially, instead of the paint. But now its finished, I'm so glad I didn't! This ended up being the most versatile piece I have ever created!
Nina I loved this weeks video. The results are wonderful but watching your process was fun in & of itself. I really enjoy you. Thank you for for not only sharing your art with the world but also videoing the process & sharing that as well. Love the colors in this one. I like them all but really enjoy the later version that your boys enjoyed also.
I posted this video in the Crafting Mamas FB group because some of us were just talking about layers. This was such a timely video. Someone was saying she didn't have many stamps & I also said in my intro to this video on my post that it was a good one to watch because you don't use many commercial stamps in your process & the ones you do use could be approximated at home with a hot glue gun & cardboard. Such a timely video. Shelley from Crafting Mamas on YT had a recent video on what she calls Serendipity paper for making one of a kind paper for die cuts & cut outs. Your background would make gorgeous paper flowers & punch outs.
i love the finished one!!!!! thank you for sharing your process. many blessings!
Thank you 💕
Love the page with the stars! And I agree that the busier background feels a lot more finished. It turned out amazing!
Thanks so much Aleesha :)
wow Nina I can't believe the layers and the final results. each are beautiful in their own way - hard to pick a favorite. this looks like so much fun to do and i cannot wait to give this a try - thank you and enjoy your day : )
Stunning background Nina, and it so entertaining to see you can't stop layering 😁...you can use your copy's for so many different things. Beautiful, thank you! X
I love all the pieces, journal pages, the original 1 and 2 and even the mop up papers. What a great idea to print what you like to work on again. Embracing the chaos always give beautiful results, firstly just because you've done it ! I got two master boards that are waiting me to work on and I'm absolutely inspired, thank you !
I love it Nina, you made the right choice by putting on all the layers....
Thanks so much Marie :)
Fantastic! I would never had thought of making copies on mixed media paper! Thanks for the idea!❤️❤️
Wow and more wow, love all those layers, I was with you every step of the way. Love all your pieces and they each have their own merits, never would have thought of getting them printed onto mixed media paper, that is such a good idea. Tfs xo
Nina, you are so brave...I can't tell you how many times I thought well that's it, then you talked about adding more and I held my breath, a couple of times I was keen on the outcome then you added more and it worked ! Great idea to have copies made at intervals. Awesome finished piece xx
Thanks Chris. I had an idea in my head at the beginning of this page, but it just didn't start off as I had expected and that really threw me. So I just went with it, and I'm so glad I didn't give up. It looks completely different to what I originally had in mind! Glad you like it too! :) xx
Love the final piece before the stars and after..you can do so much with that background!! Thanks for sharing and encouraging us to keep going! {hugs} ~ Dana
+ScrappinForSarah Thanks so much for your kind comment Dana. I love creating these kinds of backgrounds where more is definitely MORE! Hugs right Back 😊
This was so fun to watch. I really didn't know where you were going with your page at first, but you are so brilliant at bringing a page together. I really loved your final touch with the stars. Absolutely fabulous.
Thank you. This went in a completely different direction to the one I had in my head when I started!
They are so beautiful and vibrant Nina, I think my favourite is the completed one. x
+Jillian Daly Thanks Jillian. That one definitely seems to be the favourite 😊 x
Love your chaotic page it’s beautiful! Love ❤️ the the one without the stars.
Thanks Ana, thats my fave too ❤️
REALLY REALLY love it , i am simply blown away at how brilliant this has turned out using caps, makes me look at all my lids now.....
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Ann :)
The stars page is just gorgeous !!! Loved your process. 😊
+Sweety Gupta Thanks so much Sweeti! 😊
You comment that it turned out in the end but that is because you continued through what you did not like, never giving up until you were happy. Then you stopped. The resulting layers are so interesting. I would imagine that you learned a lot about yourself and your art from this study. It was very entertaining and encouraging. The photocopying at different stages has several benefits. But mainly as a visual for you to study to see what you like in your art. I say "you" but I am including myself also. Thanks. -Marsha from Texas
Thanks so much for this comment Marsha. Whenever I have a specific plan in mind it nearly always goes pear shaped! I am much better working intuitively. I had an idea for this page, but I should have used sprays for that to have worked. When I didn't get the effect I was expecting at first, it threw me. But I am so glad I kept going with it. This has turned out to be the most versatile piece I have ever created and I thoroughly enjoyed the process once I had found my feet. It was so useful copying the page at various stages along the way, and has provided me with lots of backgrounds to play with at a later date too!
Beautiful page. The stars are gorgeous.
Thanks so much Jeanne :)
Hi
Nina loved your journal layout, every stage was beautiful.
Love the crazy busy page! And I prefer the finished page with the stars! Inspiring me to keep adding layers when I otherwise might stop.
Thanks Katie and yes just go for it!
Lovely Nina and so funny listening to you!
With each addition I thought no stop. But I love the finished background with the stars. You are braver than I am.
Ha yes. I did go a bit overboard on this one. I love it though ❤️
I love them both. I think you made the right choice. 😍 Big hug from Holland.
Thank you 💕
You were on a roll and it was great to roll with you!
+Cynthia Talbott-Nelson Thanks Cynthia. Once I found my flow I really started to enjoy the process and I love the end results 😊
at first I thought you should have stopped but then you carried on past the mess and it became brilliant at the end. And I love what you did with the stars😊 Also I really enjoyed the longer video😊
I think you made the right decision in carrying on, however, they are all fab-U-luss!! ❤️❤️❤️x
+Caroline Thomas Thanks Caroline. Its so much fun creating this type of page! 😘
You made the right choice of course. You always do Nina! Love this page! tfs! ♡
Thanks so much Susan! :)
This was wonderful!! Every time I thought you were finished, you just kept going! :) Loved it and love both pages equally!!
Thanks Carla. I don't appear to have any kind of restraint! Glad you like how it turned out! :)
I love your process. My new mantra from you is going to be Don't think about it Nina just do it! 😊 I love the final page with the stars. depending on how you look at it some times the stars pop forward & some times the background does. nice optical illusion. I think the first one You copied is nice but needs some white on it. Thanks for sharing all your hard work.
I love these masterboard pieces. I find them great for cutting down for card fronts or ATC's, so I know I'm going to love doing this prompt.I like the very busy end page you did best and I'm going to remember to copy my pages so I've got them for other projects too, thanks for sharing your artwork.
I love all the chaos.... just beautiful and fun x
+Elaine Thornton Thanks so much Elaine x
All the pages are so very pretty!! I truly enjoyed watching you create them from the start to the very end, thank you! And I love the blue stars, such a great dimension added! If I didn't know better, I would think they were an acetate, such a cool technique! Hugs, Debra
Thanks for your lovely comment Debra. This one certainly took a few twists and turns along the way! Hugs :) xox
Definitely the finished piece! Love your pages, both of them.
+carol m Thanks Carol. This got off to a slow start, but I loved it once I found my rhythm!
love both pages but the one with the stars is just gorgeous. you make the right choice to keep goinig. tfs
I really enjoyed watching your process on this one. I agree with your boys, the final page catches the eye! It is gorgeous :)
Layers, layers, layers!!! I believe my latest quote is: "More is more. Nina Ribena " will be my mantra and quote on my next piece. Using glazing medium as a layering means to highlight an element was a light bulb moment for me. I love the love of blending backgrounds with glazing medium, but now I want to play with it as a means to highlight texture. Both backgrounds have their own merit, depending on what else you want to do. The finished piece you did, by basically adding a quote and framing the edges, points to the fact that the additional layers finished your painting as a free standing piece of art that was no longer just a background. The actual texture visually gets lost on camera which I wonder about pulling forward somehow...not sure I would play with that on this piece, but for future explorations with texture. Often I think that putting texture on a piece just becomes a jumping off point that gets creativity going.
Thanks for such an enable journey alongside you and letting us partake in your decision-making process. I found it quite scary to warch you add more and more, but the result is Stunning! I must try to be more courageous!
Awesome Nina, yes you did right by all the lovely layers and fun!!
This was sooooo much fun Crystal. Glad you like it too!
😍 they are all lovely ...... The idea of glazing the stars is what I think l will do this week .bye
+Wilma B Thanks Wilma. Can't wait to see how yours turns out 😊. Enjoy!
I think I've just become one of your biggest fans and I only discovered your videos on RUclips about a week ago!! You do brilliant work. The one with the blue spirals are with out a doubt the best. You have so much patience! I am going to try this... using the exact same colors because I have a tendency to make mud!
Hello Nina, I loved all of the versions, the busier the better I say. I think it's great the way you ask your boys for their opinion. Pam x
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! I must try this. Great colour combinations. Thank you for sharing your talent.
+Maria Whiddon Thanks so much for your kind words Maria. This kind of piece is a lot of fun to create 😊
Love your layered "chaos "!! Both are great, but I like your finished one best- agree with the boys! thanks, Nina.
Thanks Tori. I should trust my instincts more!
Both are fantasic!! I really enjoy watching the process in your videos. Thanks, Nina!
+Tere Banacloy Thanks Tere. It took me a while to figure out where I was going with this one!
Good things take time, they are simmered :)
You absolutely made the right choice! Gorgeous page!!
Thanks Merete. I'm so glad I kept going with this one!
I just love your work. You truly inspire me. I live in New Zealand and I just can't wait for the notification to pop up on Sunday evenings alerting me that your video is there ready to watch!
+Lynette Gough Thank you so much for your wonderful comment Lynette. It makes me so happy when someone is inspired by one of my videos ❤️
ooops I must have watched the videos out of order. LOVE the chaos of this page I could hear in your voice how much you enjoyed it to. tfs Maggie Mae
I love them all, Nina! I think you did the right thing to carry on. We need to be brave, and you certainly are. Maybe this will help me loosen up, I'm having a time when I'm overthinking everything way too much. Still stuck with 2 prompts, lol! Tfs, hugs, Fia
Nina, I love this piece! You are a great inspiration. Tfs❣
+Angie Hayden Aww, thanks so much Angie 😊
Oh way behind in watching your videos. This is a stunning chaos!

Fun page Nina, love your idea with the stars, using the background paper with a glaze..and doing the bright white embossing,, it really makes it look sharp.. : )
Thanks Ina. This got off to a rocky start, but I'm so pleased with how it turned out :)
Wow! Amazing creativity! I prefer the one with the stars & I agree with your boys also

I completely agree! Thanks Kay :)
Really GREAT background and finished piece! You did well in continuing on! TFS, Nina!
+Gail Tuthill Thanks Gail. I had an idea for this, but it just did 't start off as I expected! I'm so glad I persevered as I love the finished pages and the ATC's.
I've never seen anything like this...wow! Love it and want to try something similar! I've subscribed and can't wait to see your other videos.
+Alicia S Hi Alicia! Thanks so much for your kind comment and for subscribing. I hope you enjoy some of my other videos 😊
WOW fantastic Nina! I agree with your boys - the finished piece is much more attractive, so you definitely did the right thing in going overboard! :DI love both pages - but if I had to choose a favourite it would be the first page with the stars. Tfs Big hugs, Ginny xo :o)
I really like that you carried on after the blue spirals.
Thanks Dawn, I really wasn't sure at first, but It was good to have the other copy as a comparison. Sometimes we just need to trust in our instincts more!
You're so funny, you get so excited. I love it to and can't wait to do this color scheme with the same method. The beginning piece was a bit garish and you pulled it off with style and it also gave me a great idea for windows on my buildings. I always have problems putting in so many straight windows on windows in my work but I've got a couple of small square punches that are now giving me so many choices. Great job Nina!
+Pati Pena Thanks Pati. I do get excited, its just so much fun 😊. Glad you got an idea for your projects too 😊
Absolutely gorgeous my friend!!!! It turned out great!!! Love it!! TFS!! Huge hugs and kisses!!!
Thank you so much Katerina. This didn't start off well at all, but I'm so glad I persevered with it! Huge hugs and kisses to you too!!! xxxxx
Very nice layout Nina. I like the final page best.
They are all lovely but I think you did the right thing carrying on. The result is gorgeous! I struggle to build layers but am feeling very inspired to just go for it and try some of the things you did. Tfs
+Emma Thanks Emma. It just goes to show that with this kind of thing more is definitely MORE! 😊
LOVE LOVE LOVE this wonderful page!
Thanks so much Becky! :) x
Oh! You've asked us to choose?! Impossible! I love them all!
Hugs Marsha
Thanks Marsha, I ended up with all sorts here! Hugs xox
Wow! I thought it was going to be a hot mess lol but it turned out beautiful! I love the page with the stars! Hugs xxx
+Debbie Dunham Yes, so did I. It took me a while to get into this one, but I'm glad I persevered. I ended up with so many projects from this near disaster! Hugs 😘
Fantastic love them all but the stars quotes say it all don't they :-) TFS You amaze me Nina thank you
+Bootoyou298 Thanks so much for your kind words 😊
Love them all, but especially the one with just the simple chaos quote.
+Penny Slater Thanks Penny. Thats my favourite one too!
Omg! I wonder how many layers you actually did! I love them both but i like the final version the best. I really enjoyed this video Nina, thanks xx
Thanks Sharon, I'm glad you enjoyed this one. This ended up going in a completely different direction to the one I had originally planned, but I have so many ideas for these backgrounds!
You did well when you took the photocopies. That's an excellent idea! You can explore different possibilities and end out with beautiful pieces. I liked them all! I already started with photocopies I just need time to explore. Thank you!
Thanks Sonia ❤️
They are both amazing but I love the one with the stars.
Thanks Laurie, glad you like it!
crazy crazy is great....love all of this
Thanks so much Laura!
It is funny to paint without a goal and a great idea to photocopy your work!!
+Carmen Paz Espinosa Thanks Carmen. I had an idea of where I was heading to start with, but ditched the idea almost immediately because I could see it wasn't t going as planned. So I just went with it, and thankfully it worked out in the end 😊
I kept thinking you were going to far and then the following layer just made it better instead. It was really pleasing with lots of depth.
I love the final piece I also the piece you work from I said that's a beautiful pattern page it would make a wonderful scrapbook page Amazingly beautiful I art piece thank you so much for sharing this video have a bless day love and creative colorful hugs to you
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. Creative, colourful hugs to you too :)
