Murray obviously didn’t deserve his fate but he couldn’t even recognize the danger in front of him because he was so used to using other people’s stage for his comedy act. He took advantage of people in his own way & unfortunately eventually he did it to the wrong one on the wrong day. Marc Maron the producer kept trying to call it off but Murray only saw the ratings & how it would play on television to get a confession. It was like watching someone play with a wild animal
Plus, hes one of the cities elite, a popular public figure with an audience full of witnesses watching everything that happens around him, hes used to everything going his way, he thinks hes untouchable
I see this all the time all the comedians just picking out random people, body shaming them, or just really not a great attitude behind the scene. the murry scene is actually a lesson for all the comedians. I'm not saying Arthur did the right thing but comedians need to understand their crossing limit sometime, you never know what's coming for you.

Very few comedians make intentional offensiveness part of their act. Most of the ones That I have seen are using commonly offensive stereotypes to point out the ridiculousness of said stereotypes. Sarah Silverman got a lot of flack for a joke she told about trying to get out of jury duty and asking a friend for advise, the friend said to put something racist on the questionnaire like “I hate chinks” (a derogatory term for people of Asian descent) and Sarah says “Well, I didn't want to sound racist, so instead I wrote 'I Love chinks” Making fun of the clueless people who would think that the latter would be any less offensive than the former. Not allowing a joke like that, because some people's brains shut down anytime they hear a single word that they find offensive, and they do not listen to what is actually being said, is one reason for the backlash against the “social justice” movement. Jimmy Carr is notorious for his off color jokes, as is Anthony Jeselnic. They are both hilarious and poke fun at some of the darker situations in our world today. They are not so much trying to offend as entertain, and if you take offense you have the right to get up and leave, turn the channel, whatever. This is also consistent with the more overarching "back burner" plot of the movie where there is general political unrest and the people themselves end up using Arthur and hoisting him up as a hero of their movement; a movement Arthur isn't even really aware of and took no part in. So at least twice in the movie, Arthur is being used by others and it's a major theme of the movie.
I love this movie and think the discourse when it came out was mind-numbingly stupid. People talking like this movie is 'dangerous' to society, when all it is doing is holding up a mirror to it.

My fav part that not everyone picks up on about this movie, is that he can hear to movie's scoring. Watch how he's dancing to it, how he laughs at the words in the music at the end. Part of his "psychosis" is that he can somehow hear soundtrack to his life... in a fourth wall kind of break.

I got to be a background extra in the “Gotham in chaos” scenes for this movie. Such an incredible experience. I got to touch Joaquin Phoenix while he’s on top of the cop car 🤣
This movie is a cross between Taxi Driver, and the King of Comedy. Two Scorsese films staring Robert DeNiro, who is also in this movie. You guys should check those films out, if you haven't seen them already.
Joker is fifty-percent brilliant, fifty-percent libel and slander, it is not related to either of those movies. (This film would have appeared in this form had the other movies not been made.)
The biggest complaint that I see thrown around by people about this movie, is that it is just a copy of King of Comedy and Taxi Driver. And while it definitely takes inspiration from these movies, I think this is a great movie that can stand on its own.
Yeah, and it is a viable complaint because too much of those movies were used and nothing interesting is done with them. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Joker fails on many levels.

Arthur Fleck appears to have Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA) that results in involuntary, pathological laughter. It's hard to watch the character's desperation to appear 'normal' as he struggles to assimilate into a busy, working society only to return to painstaking isolation in his Gotham City apartment thereafter. Throughout the movie, it shows him bullied, targeted, and how he becomes better with someone in his life. Speaking from personal experience, I know what it is like to lack "social cues". Although he may not be aspie, autism comes with mental disorders like anxiety and whatnot. There's really nothing wrong with it. The worst part about having a mental illness/disability is people expect you to behave as if you don't 🥲🙂↕. I can understand why despite the critics giving this movie a lower rating, the people (comic book audience) gave this movie a 10/10 on IGN and won a ton of awards. This movie could possibly be a hyperbole on mental illness where the audience can appreciate the gathered message or discuss their theories on mental illness and, as an effect, the importance of neurodiversity.
I highly recommend films that make you relatable about society. Taxi Driver (1976) Carrie (1976) Network (1976) Office Space (1999) V for Vendetta (2005)
One of the biggest irony’s of this movie is how it points out celebrities with lots media attention making fun of the middle class and/or less fortunate, only for shows like Jimmy Kimmel and SNL to go doing that exact thing.
The first time I saw this movie, I left the theater practically in shock. The ending with the city on fire scared me because I felt like the US was headed in that direction at the time. One thing that stood out to me was how jarring the violent moments were because of how few and far between they were. I actually haven't seen this movie since before I got married and divorced. I'm seeing it now in a new light because now I've seen firsthand how messed up the mental healthcare system is, at least in my ex-wife's case. She can't work because of her mental health issues (supposedly--I'm not so sure that's true), so she relies on government benefits for money. As a result, she is on Medicaid because she can't afford health insurance, and her options for treatments and providers are limited. And her providers are incompetent, so they don't prescribe effective treatments. So, basically, she's stuck in a cycle where her issues indirectly prevent her from getting the treatment she needs for those issues. And the worst part is, her kids have also developed mental health issues because of how badly she treated them, and now they're in foster care and stuck in the same cycle of ineffective treatment.

With the reveal that he imagined their entire relationship, Arthur coming into her apartment unannounced is this to Sophie and the audience. She's a single mother who has just put her young child to bed, only to find a man she's only spoken to once silently sitting in her living room, having broken in without her noticing. All she can do is calmly try to ask him to leave only for him to gesture shooting himself in the head, clearly terrifying her.
There's a fine line between shining a light on something, and glorifying a thing, perhaps that distinction is left to the observer. I think we can all agree that anyone that thought the things he did in this film were "cool" or whatever are out of touch.
I've seen people say this, but I'm yet to see anyone who thought what Arthur did in this movie was "cool". Idk though. If you've seen so many that that's the general idea you have of fans of this movie then they simply dont understand the message of the movie, which is anything but glorifying mental health issues and violence.
So everyone is really going to say that at the end of this movie, Arthur was never really the Joker? Him painting a smile with blood, all of that was just him enjoying attention, rather than actually finding enjoyment in the chaos??
It's ridiculous and I don't consider the sequel canon. He murdered Randall, a man much larger than himself, in brutal fashion, and enjoyed it. He caused chaos on the train and danced when he saw the police being beaten. He shot Murray on live TV before skipping towards the camera and mocking it all. He called the chaos in Gotham beautiful, before dancing on a police car for a crowd of his followers. Yet I'm supposed to believe this guy starts the sequel as weak old Arthur and allows himself to be manipulated by a random groupie? Nope. It isn't consistent with who he was at the end of the first film. The first film was him being consumed by something created by trauma, that he'd been supressing for a long time. He accepted and enjoyed what he became at the end of the film. As far as I'm concerned, he is the Joker.

When you were reading that snippet about the clown Pagliacci, it made me think about Robin Williams. I mean he wasn't a clown of course, but just the idea of someone who's job is to spread joy (a famous comedian) who is struggling emotionally all the while.
This is one of my top 5 movies. Seeing the deterred state of Arthur slowly turning into Joker, the unreliable narrator, and the score for this is amazing. I would have been fine with it being a stand alone film.
Leaving the cinema after this watch was surreal. Everyone was silent from Murray's death until the end. Even walking out we all took like 5 minutes to process and think about...society i guess

Your self-defense claim ends as soon as the threat to your safety ends. Even the most generous interpretation of the most generous self-defense laws would not justify that third kill.
This movie is fantastic. The writing was superb, the tone, cinematography. It made over a billion dollars, did great critically, and helped Joaquin Phoenix win an Oscar. The only people that didn't like it try to argue it was "too dark and depressing" or they expected this to be an already established Joker.
I personally leart a few vsry valuble lessons from this movie. I learnt to try to be more considerate, understanding, and kind when dealing with other people because you don't know what this person has been through. Maybe they had a bad day, maybe they lost something or someone dear, maybe they are not having their best day, they broke up or something similar. Even if someone random on a street lashes out at you or vex you somehow, try to tolerate it and just move on. It also raises awareness about mistreatment and bullying. Many people bully others and don't actually know that what they are doing is bullying. And this adds to the first one, you don't know what someone is going through or how their life is like; if they have conditions or if they have other problems (mental, family, friends, relationship, etc), so don't mess around with strangers outside as a form of joking thinking it's fun and games. People are not the same, not just physically but also mentally.. what you can take, others can't. If you got through bullying before, others can't. Moreover, it showed me (me at least) how different classes get different treatment. Not excusing Arthur killing those men on the train, but no one in the movie tried to listen to him, see, and understand that he was bullied and assaulted. Moreover, no one cared to listen or believe Arthur at all. One example is his manager not listening to his side of the story about what happened with the sign.
2:55 its not as bad as some things depict it, there isnt a city ending threat or mass killinh every wwek, its kuch more spread out, muggings happen yeah but thwt happens in any major city in the bad areas, and once batman actually becomes active, the muggings actually go down. the joker from this movie works really well as a proto-joker, someone who inspires the actual joker in the future (same motivation, similar back stories) as the real joker, not so much... since he's supposed to be actually as smart and meticulous as batman, and plan a LOT of stuff ahead, despite saying that he doesn't (even fools a lot of the audience who likes to romanticize him as "pure chaos", so they fail to see his bold faced lies)

Warner Brothers shouldn't have gone for Joker 2....It wasn't necessary. I say this because i saw this in a packed theatre full of more than 300 people. Everyone was severely disappointed. I didn't meet a single person who liked the film. Sorry but it's a bad attempt.

My fav part that not everyone picks up on about this movie, is that he can hear to movie's scoring. Watch how he's dancing to it, how he laughs at the words in the music at the end. Part of his "psychosis" is that he can somehow hear soundtrack to his life... in a fourth wall kind of break.

This movie is a cross between Taxi Driver, and the King of Comedy. Two Scorsese films staring Robert DeNiro, who is also in this movie. You guys should check those films out, if you haven't seen them already.
Joker is fifty-percent brilliant, fifty-percent libel and slander, it is not related to either of those movies. (This film would have appeared in this form had the other movies not been made.)

The biggest complaint that I see thrown around by people about this movie, is that it is just a copy of King of Comedy and Taxi Driver. And while it definitely takes inspiration from these movies, I think this is a great movie that can stand on its own.

Arthur Fleck appears to have Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA) that results in involuntary, pathological laughter. It's hard to watch the character's desperation to appear 'normal' as he struggles to assimilate into a busy, working society only to return to painstaking isolation in his Gotham City apartment thereafter.
Throughout the movie, it shows him bullied, targeted, and how he becomes better with someone in his life. Speaking from personal experience, I know what it is like to lack "social cues". Although he may not be aspie, autism comes with mental disorders like anxiety and whatnot. There's really nothing wrong with it. The worst part about having a mental illness/disability is people expect you to behave as if you don't 🥲🙂↕.
I can understand why despite the critics giving this movie a lower rating, the people (comic book audience) gave this movie a 10/10 on IGN and won a ton of awards. This movie could possibly be a hyperbole on mental illness where the audience can appreciate the gathered message or discuss their theories on mental illness and, as an effect, the importance of neurodiversity.
The makeup is a nod to serial killer John Wayne Gacy's Pogo the Clown persona. The comedy club is also named Pogo's for the same reason.
I'm really glad that mickey emphasized the batman/joker dynamic. that relationship is the highlight of this movie for me lol

The first time I saw this movie, I left the theater practically in shock. The ending with the city on fire scared me because I felt like the US was headed in that direction at the time. One thing that stood out to me was how jarring the violent moments were because of how few and far between they were.
I actually haven't seen this movie since before I got married and divorced. I'm seeing it now in a new light because now I've seen firsthand how messed up the mental healthcare system is, at least in my ex-wife's case. She can't work because of her mental health issues (supposedly--I'm not so sure that's true), so she relies on government benefits for money. As a result, she is on Medicaid because she can't afford health insurance, and her options for treatments and providers are limited. And her providers are incompetent, so they don't prescribe effective treatments. So, basically, she's stuck in a cycle where her issues indirectly prevent her from getting the treatment she needs for those issues. And the worst part is, her kids have also developed mental health issues because of how badly she treated them, and now they're in foster care and stuck in the same cycle of ineffective treatment.
I'm bracing myself for next month. I think things are going to get chaotic and possibly dangerous. Be safe out there, and good luck.

With the reveal that he imagined their entire relationship, Arthur coming into her apartment unannounced is this to Sophie and the audience. She's a single mother who has just put her young child to bed, only to find a man she's only spoken to once silently sitting in her living room, having broken in without her noticing. All she can do is calmly try to ask him to leave only for him to gesture shooting himself in the head, clearly terrifying her.
It’s nowhere near as dangerous or as brilliant as these arguments make it out to be. It’s an ok movie elevated by incredible performances.

It's ridiculous and I don't consider the sequel canon.
He murdered Randall, a man much larger than himself, in brutal fashion, and enjoyed it. He caused chaos on the train and danced when he saw the police being beaten. He shot Murray on live TV before skipping towards the camera and mocking it all. He called the chaos in Gotham beautiful, before dancing on a police car for a crowd of his followers.
Yet I'm supposed to believe this guy starts the sequel as weak old Arthur and allows himself to be manipulated by a random groupie?
Nope. It isn't consistent with who he was at the end of the first film. The first film was him being consumed by something created by trauma, that he'd been supressing for a long time. He accepted and enjoyed what he became at the end of the film.
As far as I'm concerned, he is the Joker.

When you were reading that snippet about the clown Pagliacci, it made me think about Robin Williams. I mean he wasn't a clown of course, but just the idea of someone who's job is to spread joy (a famous comedian) who is struggling emotionally all the while.
This is one of my top 5 movies. Seeing the deterred state of Arthur slowly turning into Joker, the unreliable narrator, and the score for this is amazing. I would have been fine with it being a stand alone film.

I love that scene where Arthur goes to see Bruce. The way Bruce goes right up to him shows that even at a young age he was drawn to the kinds of things that would make most people think twice about approaching.
A .38 Revolver can have as many as 8 rounds in the cylinder. For your standard handgun anyway. There was a monster created a long time ago that had 8 cylinders with 6 rounds each, so a 48 shot revolver but it was massive.

This movie is fantastic. The writing was superb, the tone, cinematography. It made over a billion dollars, did great critically, and helped Joaquin Phoenix win an Oscar. The only people that didn't like it try to argue it was "too dark and depressing" or they expected this to be an already established Joker.

I personally leart a few vsry valuble lessons from this movie. I learnt to try to be more considerate, understanding, and kind when dealing with other people because you don't know what this person has been through. Maybe they had a bad day, maybe they lost something or someone dear, maybe they are not having their best day, they broke up or something similar. Even if someone random on a street lashes out at you or vex you somehow, try to tolerate it and just move on. It also raises awareness about mistreatment and bullying. Many people bully others and don't actually know that what they are doing is bullying. And this adds to the first one, you don't know what someone is going through or how their life is like; if they have conditions or if they have other problems (mental, family, friends, relationship, etc), so don't mess around with strangers outside as a form of joking thinking it's fun and games. People are not the same, not just physically but also mentally.. what you can take, others can't. If you got through bullying before, others can't. Moreover, it showed me (me at least) how different classes get different treatment. Not excusing Arthur killing those men on the train, but no one in the movie tried to listen to him, see, and understand that he was bullied and assaulted. Moreover, no one cared to listen or believe Arthur at all. One example is his manager not listening to his side of the story about what happened with the sign.

Warner Brothers shouldn't have gone for Joker 2....It wasn't necessary. I say this because i saw this in a packed theatre full of more than 300 people. Everyone was severely disappointed. I didn't meet a single person who liked the film. Sorry but it's a bad attempt.
