These are really great tips you mentioned. Thank you. Me and my wife traveled Spain recently this month and I easily fell in love with the place, that we are considering of moving there. However, I get discourage about the average salary of the employees there, as it is a common issue that I heard from other RUclipsrs. And the competition seems tough. I don't want to move to another country and regret it because we can't support ourselves financially.

Well, I know a bit, but mostly about food and Michelin star restaurants. I used to Carter for the MWC with Hotel Arts. Before this confinement, Barcelona was becoming very popular with film making, Girona's Cathedral and Park Guell, were in Game of Thrones, and there have been many other films recorded in Barcelona. TV3 is located right next BCN as well, (its the tv station for Catalonia) I don't have any contacts in the film industry here or the media.

Hey! thank you!! I have not been doing more of these videos since I'm cooking so much! haha
But as far as i know now, If you were legally a resident in Spain before 1 January 2021, you will be able to stay, and you can apply for a (TIE) card which replaces the EU green card, called the (NIE).
However, as of now if you want to move from the UK to Spain, I believe you will have to go through all the paperwork, Birth Certificate, Translation, Apostile, Work Contract, etc.

Thank you!! Yes it is! I can say that after moving from BCN to Lyon France I move back to Barcelona because I missed the weather and life so much!! As for places to live. Sant Martí was cheaper but is a more expensive area however it depends on if you want to buy or rent. So it depends on what you want to spend. I personally love being close to the water but since its more expensive I have to look at other places. Gracia is good, quiet quaint and close to the city centre and L'Eixample or Les Corts but again it depends on your preference. Hey Juri! Yes, I should make a video about this! but for a quick response, I would say that.
      - Barceloneta is okay, I lived there for 2 years and it is touristy and busy, but it's safe.
      - Gràcia, is a very cool district, lots of things to do, and its close to the city center and I feel safe walking in Gracia.
      - El Eixample is the uptown, this is where all the streets are the same. it's safe.
      - La Sagrada familia area is okay too. safe.
      - El Born, during the day it's okay, but to live in, NO. the streets are very narrow and you have people waiting for opportunities during the night.
      - El Raval n is the same as Born. No.
      - El Gotico, is the same as Born a No.
      - Nou Barris is a No.
      - Sant Antoni is a No.
To sum up, Barcelona for me with my experience is safe. I use to work in Seattle and I have lived in CA, NM, VA, AZ, HI, France, and London as well. Walking home at night in Seattle you would have people following you. I have never seen anything like this in Barcelona. If you are planning of moving to Barcelona, I would visit first to see it, but it is a very cool place! and it's very international.

Hey man! Thank you very much! well, after things settle down.
First I would say to either visit or research a lot before moving from Canada, it's a big move.
I would also say to apply for a visa. I have a list of people that can help with the paperwork in the video description. this can save a lot of time and headache.
Then for places to move, Gracia is a great place! and L'EixampIe is another part, that is good.
Also, jobs right now are not as prevalent since the virus, but rent prices are starting to drop! which is a very good thing!

    • @ChefJamesMakinson
      @ChefJamesMakinson  4 года назад +1

Well, it depends on where you are moving from and if you want to rent or buy.
If you are looking to Rent or buy this sites can help:
      www.fotocasa.es/en/
      english.habitaclia.com/
      www.idealista.com/en/venta-viviendas/barcelona-barcelona/
and since Barcelona is still in phase 0, this is all we can do to look for places.
You can also join some groups on Facebook for expats, or moving to Spain. As there are many and they may have some contacts for places to rent.
If you are renting from a person and not an agency be careful,
as some may try to take advantage of you, for not knowing the local laws, prices etc.
      ------------------------------------------
However, you can also find places to buy through banks, La Caixa, BBVA, Santander, ING, etc.
they will help finance more then normal as well up to 100% I believe.
Otherwise, you will have to pay an upfront cost of 10% to 20% when buying property in Spain. which can be difficult.
I hope this help and answers some of your questions! if you have anymore, let me know!
      Cheers!

Hey Stephen! thank you! things have changed a bit here in the city this past year, most jobs are from home with this virus, and rents have increased but again it depends on where you are looking to live. What part of the city would you recommend for someone who loves hiking and walking in the woods?

    • @ChefJamesMakinson
      @ChefJamesMakinson  4 года назад +3

      Hello,
well, it depends if you want to live close to the city center of Barcelona. if so, i would say Gracia is the perfect district! the mountains start in Gracia and there are a lot of parks, plus nightlife, and metro and close to the tibidabo amusement park, which you can walk too!
If you can live outside of Barcelona then i would look around (sant just desvern or esplugues de llobregat) they could be good choices! they are very close to Barcelona, you can take the tram and metro as well and there are a lots of hiking places near or just a few miles away! plus other outdoor activities! I hope this helps!! let me know if you have any more questions!! take care!

Hi René, yes I know it was one of my first videos so I have learned a lot in the past year on how to edit. As for jobs here in Spain as of now, it has been harder to find a job here since this virus started but it also depends on what industry you are in as for me the hospitality industry has been very hard and there are not a lot of places hiring.
However, here are a few sites that we use here.

Hello sorry for the late response I have been moving this past week. Both have good universities, the education in both cities is irrelevant if for choosing one over the other. However, Barcelona does have higher-ranked universities. Permanent Residence is after 5 years of living here. I do not know what visa you will need from India but you may be about to get a student visa. the salaries in Spain are lower than most of the northern ones, I made 1500 x 14 per month as a Chef and other industries, will pay more or less, depending on how much experience you have. also, Madrid is a very pretty city but it gets hot in the summer, Barcelona does too but it's on the Mediterranean so if you like the beach I would say Barcelona.
I hope this helps a bit! again I'm sorry for the late reply. have a great week!

    good video !
on the down sides i would have mention the very poor building and flat quality. I have been living in a lot of different places and everytime they were very bad, with a sound isolation inexistant , a view in front of your neighbor's window (only the living room is exterior in general) all this for a lot of money.
for the very low income and high rents i second what you said !
Oh and one more thing, a lot of services are unreliable and will try to crook you somehow, rental car agencies real estate agencies ,landlords.... getting back your deposit is a sport for a lot of us expats and expect not to have a contract when you rent a bedroom (but still have to pay a deposit that you might not see anymore).
Becareful when you sign a contract, most of them use grey areas to fire you whenever they have to without much problems, they wont hesitate to do an illegal dismissal and pay some more indemnities as with the contract you will sign you dont cost a lot of money to them.
I know people who stop getting paid after a company just disppeared, in short it is a gorgeous city but very few really important thing are reliable unfortunately.

      Thank you very much!
I was planning on making more about moving to Spain. But with not being able to go anywhere, I've been cooking.
I agree about the flats here, I have lived in the US, England, France and here. I prefer living in a house but sadly mostly of my work is in the city.
But I have to say this, working as a Chef. I was making 3k more a year in Spain then I was in a Michelin star in France. However, I was only working 35 hours a week in France, and all the extra hours were paid. In Spain, I can work 80 hours or more, a week with no extra pay or time off and as an American, I don't agree with that and I have had my share of problems with employers here.
They did just passed a new law forcing companies to pay overtime after 40hrs a week.
To work and make money, Spain is not good. To retire and live, it is.
The problem is that here most of the mentality is still a bit old and laws protect more the employers / owners.
I do have to say that in general Spain does have a good infrastructure, for the roads, bridges, and most public transit. I can't say for all of the country, as I can't really travel right now.

    • @danigonzalez4299
      @danigonzalez4299 3 года назад

At least 900€. I mean 50 square meters is "a lot" of independence. Keep in mind people are paying 500 to 600€ for a room in a shared appartment. So prices keep rising i'd say, and at least 1000 euros would be a good amount to find something interesting.
Plus never forget appartments here are very poorly issolated (if any issolation was applied anytime) and living in them won't only cost you a fortune in summer using AC or winter using whatever source of warming up you do but using electricity (we have the most expensive electricity in the whole Europe in Spain, and the lowests salaries in the "developed countries" group) due to the fact the building is not issolated at all. Expect to feel cold (and humidity here is killer) and too much warm in those seasons at home.
