- WAR TIME JAFFNA VILLAGE CUISINE was one of the most eye opening days with my time in Sri Lanka.
However, before that I also got the opportunity to eat at KKM Hope Farm. A farm helping others and teaching children about produce and natural food sources. The two dishes which were prepared by the women really blew my mind. They were like nothing I had tasted before or during my time in Sri Lanka. They were just phenomenal. Especially the lake fish curry!
Next, out to the village in an area that had been affected by the war. Eating a dish that was built out of necessity but really was superb. So delicious and you can taste the local freshness from the ingredients and the main ingredient, lots of love.

there are so many things even I ddnt knw about own my country's northern region. I hope south to north and vice versa should travel and get to know the warmth and hospitality of other regions as we all r sri lankans by leaving all the ethnic disputes away ..only that way we can put an end to all the misunderstandings and prejudices which are fed by crafty politicians for their own benefits...my dear sri lankans pls travl ...go see your country...meet your own ppl and see their heritage..we are a beautiful country with warm hearts.

Totally agree, we can understand a culture by their food. I've travelled to the southern part of Sri Lanka and came to realize the wonderfull food and hospitality the southern sinhalese people has to offer. In the north we were under the impression that hat sinhalese people are racist and cruel people. But they're very friendly and down to earth people. The politicians brained wash us to hate one another for their political benefits.

Sinhalese monks and politicians too started the problem by introducing the Sinhala Only Act and Tamils couldn't get proper jobs and education due to that. Sinhalese also committed Black July Massacre of Tamils in Colombo in 1983 and burned down Jaffna Library in 1981. Silent protests by Tamils for decades amounted to nothing and that's how LTTE came about. The country is peaceful now but politicians can start problems again. The people must be matured enough to see through political games.

Don't be surprised! I was there in Tanzania for 20 yrs and in Kenya ( Voi ) for one year. But still my kiswahili is not that good. Right now I'm in Gisyeni, Rwanda and some of them living near Congo border do speak kiswahili but it's terrible. Lol.!
You did it again Max! You’re amazing. I admire you and thank you for this video. I watched your previous video on Jaffna, my home town. As a little girl we fled the war with my family over 20 years ago. Living through those tough times as a 7 year old and witnessing scenes of war which can’t be undone in my head and now watching this video is so comforting! Not how I remember Jaffna as a child. Faith in humanity restored! I want to visit Jaffna very soon.

Indeed ! These people lost everything including their own every single family members! They ended up alone , Nothing but all alone! But life has to go on. They just try to move on, survive and smile. Now Srilanka Tourism is using these poor burden lives of brutal civil war done by Sinhala Army to promote their tourism business and revenue !$! ..... Sad !

I thought i have tried most of all Jaffna Tamils & Muslims foods in Jaffna, in Colombo, restaurants &homes, as well as in UK, US, Canada, S.pore etc but got truly stumped now, kind of 2nd time seeing fish made w.out any trademark red chilli curry powder etc, but green paste+ coconut+ other spices, probably native to that southern end of greater Jaffna area, or very closely kept secret methods, or nuance twist to old seacret dishes, couldn't tell. Papaya rice, beets- coconut drink, very Innovative & neat stuffs, banana leaf wrap baking similar to SE Asian( philp, Malay, Indnasia, etc)
I am no where near the expert you are, but I was very fascinated with it as well! Glad I could show you something new! Best wishes!

Jaffna and northern province is slowly coming out of the previous war...corporate culture hasn't get there yet..Thats why ' their food and lifestyle are still organic and authentic, like' how it was 40 years ago..
But the sad part is, now the corporate world is laying their eye on Jaffna....soon everything there will be, genetically modified and full of chemicals like the rest of the world 🙋♂️
