  • "The Poet in Her Bedroom," a 32-minute program, is the first volume of the television series "Angles of a Landscape: Perspectives on Emily Dickinson," which explores little-known aspects of Dickinson's life and work. Now widely assigned to the first rank of American poets, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) was unknown and mostly unpublished in her lifetime. Since her death well over a century ago, nearly 1,800 of her lyric poems have been discovered, published, and translated into dozens of languages. The poet never married and eventually confined herself to her father's house and grounds. Nonetheless Dickinson lived a rich and immensely productive creative life.

This is a lovely excerpt. An attempt to portray Emily Dickinson's life was made by my partner Norman Worrall in his film (DVD), Becoming Emily. He used some of her poems and letters, exclusively, to tell the story of her life. Filmed in Deal and Walmer, Kent, UK, there are a few excerpts on RUclips. Type in: host1939. A DVD is available from Amazon and includes a detailed booklet.

You obviously don't understand anything about Emily Dickinson, or about imaginative life. Dickinson dramatizes the pain of isolation alongside whatever elusive liberation it gives.

    Hello Zenpaganwarrior,
Actually the title of the series comes from an Emily Dickinson poem:
The Angle of a Landscape -
That every time I wake -
Between my Curtain and the Wall
    Opon an ample Crack -
    Like a Venetian - waiting -
    Accosts my open eye -
Is just a Bough of Apples -
Held slanting, in the Sky -
