I made my 9 year old son watch this video with me and then asked him if he wanted to perform the diff fluid swap. He accepted the challenge and was able to accomplish the task under your tutelage.
Great video. I appreciate your efforts very much. Got my sons out to help me so they can learn the benefits of DIY Thanks for saving me money on a relatively easy drain and fill job.
I just found your videos and have been missing out for a while. Its just amazing how you have every video I have been looking for and the same exact model. Thank you!!
Excellent video! I like your quart can jig. I wonder if it will be necessary if you have an oil transfer pump that screws directly onto the top of the oil can? Then again, I wonder if there is enough vertical room under a CRV on jack stands to use a screw on transfer pump? Would probably have to lean it a little to get the full pump action.
Hi, outstanding video, may I ask how bad the old fluid was, indicated color, smell, texture of oil, was it needed at 95,000 miles? Mine is at 52,000 miles. Thank you!
Brian Chambers Thank you so much! My fluid was fine. Smell and texture was normal. I now change it every fall of the year. It's so easy to do and not that long of a job. In fact I change these fluids all in one day; starting with my rear end fluid, next go to the coolant, and finally the trans fluid.
I have a 2015 43k miles. When should I change differential fluid ? Thanks for great video. Please film all the work you done on your Honda. I already liked and subscribed.
spike little That is what Honda recommends. Doesn't mean you can't do it sooner. I did not know Honda made a diesel CR-V. Is that only for European sales? What kind of MPG do you get?
Appreciate your video. 1 question 🤔, 1 2 3 process at the end is it really needed ?? Why did you do that ? Did u have any indicator on your dash before doing that ??
@@starastronomer so your MIL came on and you had to do that 1 2 3 process ??? I'm about to do rear defense and trensmission fluid next week. That's why I need to know
What other brand that you can use beside Honda Dual Pump Fluid II (5:38)? And also for Automatic Transmission Fluid? You are correct in positioning the crush washer (9:00) that even the Honda's mechanics place correctly. Have you done the drain/fill on Automatic Transmission Fluid? Many failed to replace the filter. This going to be fun. Very nice camera angles & videoing except the audio.
angelisone I do not second guess the engineers when it comes to tranny or rear end fluid. I always use manufacturer specific oils. Not worth trying to save money. For my engine oil I use Mobile 1 full synthetic 0W-20. Here is my video on the tranny fluid change: ruclips.net/video/qVg38Ek4E0Q/видео.html Please listen carefully to what is said in my video about the filter change. You will be surprised. As to the audio, I live in the country and it gets windy. Nothing I can do about that. I try to make sure my videos have good content explained well.
I won't be changing this myself but I have a 2012 honda CRV EX FWD, has 142000 miles, when driving there is squeaking noises coming from rear end. ( this drives me crazy). If I get a differential fluid change would this help the noise. Not sure if this was ever done from previous owner. or are older mileage honda CRV is this prone to do this? I don't want to be taken advantage of by a mechanic. Help LOL
Darmat M I am a "backyard" mechanic so to speak, not a professional. BUT, I would want to know if the noise is actually coming from the rear differential. Could it be from another source in the rear of the vehicle? If it is the rear differential that is making the noise I would say fluid may be low or if not low perhaps something is going on with it. Changing the fluid may do nothing if damage has started. It shouldn't be low as it is a closed system unless it is leaking out. The job is very easy. If I were you I'd change the fluid myself and see what happens. Can't hurt. Perhaps a friend could do it. Pay them and do make sure you use the Honda approved fluid for your year car. I myself do not want to second guess the engineers on what fluid type should be used. If it does not help then see a mechanic and go from there. I am not sure if CR-V's are prone to this issue. Think of it this way. If you hear a noise in your engine and wear has started or damage is too far along changing oil does nothing. The issue must be fixed. QUESTION, at approx how many miles did this noise start? At what mileage did you purchase the CR-V? I know what you mean by being taken advantage of. A dealer tried that on me ruclips.net/video/UVDlsqkYXww/видео.html It seems money is what drives "some" dealerships. Perhaps a friend or coworker can suggest a place they have dealt with that they trust. I hope this helps. BTW, in my opinion changing the fluids in your vehicle on a regular basis is the cheapest insurance you can do.
Well I just purchased this CRV 3 weeks ago from a dealership. It never made the noise when test drove it. My son says maybe bushings or left wheel suspension. When I bounce the car up and down it makes the same squeaking noise. Squeaks like a mouse running on an old wheel in its cage lol. We took an audio of the noise while driving it. I have to take it back to the Honda dealer for them to replace the front break pads. I’m going to have them look at it and maybe tell me what it is and than take it somewhere else. I appreciate your response. I searched it this vehicle doesn’t have differential fluid. Hopefully they can find out what it is. But I won’t let them work on it and give them anymore money. I got in a hurry to buy a car mine was totaled by a driver. I searched for 3 weeks. Thought I found one gave them a $500 deposit I should have walked away from the money but didn’t oh well.
@@jacksongil9123 or just jack up the rear or front slighty to make it level depends on the incline, to access this you dont need to jack it up, as long as the V is level
eu ci Not sure what you mean BUT, you need the car up enough to get to the plugs which will require jack stands. You NEVER want to get under a vehicle with just a hydraulic jack. It could fail. Always be safe. If the vehicle needs to be off the ground properly support it.

Thank you for posting this video. Does the fill plug take 35 ft-lbs of torque as well? Also, did it take the entire 2 quarts to refill?

Is the fluid change able to be done on ramps as opposed to the jack?
No, as the vehicle needs to be level to get a good fill level of the differential fluid.
Can it be done without stands (just tires on pavement)? I would think that would be flat enough?
No way. It's bad enough on jack stands as you still have little room to work under.

No warranty sold

Is that the same for CRV 4x4 or AWD variant
All differentials have a lower drain hole and an upper fill hole.
Is this only on the 4x4 CRV?
Can't say for sure.
Yes. This is the rear differential for the 4WD/AWD models. The other models do not have a rear differential.
Do you need to have the CRV on 4 jack stands?
Yes, you want the vehicle level.
