After Trigger passed, he was stuffed and mounted at the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum. The museum was opened in 1967 and received close to 200,000 visitors to see the horse. P.S.-Sorry for ruining your childhood. :)
@@randyc5650 I had forgotten all about Greenie Stickem caps! We used to use them in little plastic 'missiles'. We'd throw them and when they hit the ground, the caps would go off.
I never saw Roy Rogers show until recently with satellite stations. Son would watch it regularly. But I knew Roy Rogers, primarily because of Roy Rogers fast food restaurants and the ads. Loved our local one had sit-on horses with built-in trays for us kids to eat, and they gave us membership cards and wallet! Heck, when RR reincarnated (thanks to our locals in Frederick taking over ownership) we got membership cards as adults for deals!
I'm in my 70s. We all grew up playing games that almost always included some type of gun play. We watched Roy and Gene Autry shoot the bad guys. We didn't grow up and become mass murderers as adults.
@@robertcieslak1861 I DO!!!!! Had them for my Mattel Winchester Rifle, Fanner 50, Derringer, and Snub nose 38. Loved 'em! I also had the Mattel Colt six shooter rifle. Almost forgot that.
So cool, definitely from a better time. These shorts are a good way for people to notice the wonderful Westerns on the web, I don't have many people I can tell on my phone but I have spread the word.
Could you sell that today? Roy Rogers' sons got to test items that would bear his name. If the products could withstand them, they were good. According to his son Roy Jr., aka Dusty, he wasn't a fan of BB guns.
I'm guessing around 1959. I watched RR every week, and then the reruns. I do remember seeing this commercial on TV. Even as a kid I kind of thought it was a silly idea. I had the white handle 6-shooter in a real leather holster and the derringer in the belt buckle licensed from either Bat Masterson or Have Gun Will Travel. Shoveling snow or mowing at 25 cents would have taken a kid many months to save up that much dough. So It most likely would have been a birthday gift item if you were lucky. If you think of it as two items in one, you can see why it was a high end item. Plus Roy was getting his cut of the licensing rights to use his name and likeness to sell it. Roy was a smart cowboy.
I don't now how this device escaped my attention. I was smack dab in the middle of their demographic. And would have incessantly whined to the Parents until they got me one. I did have the Mattel Shootin' Shell trick Derringer Belt Buckle to the Fanner Fifty Gun Belt Set -- You flexed out your gut, and the catch on the buckle pulled out of the barrel, the pistol swung out, and the un-seared hammer fell on a genuine Greenie Stickum cap, and pushed the rimmed cartridge forward, releasing the spring detents in the plastic projectile -- and BANG! I gotcha!. No you didn't. That's cheating. No it ain't -- you're dead. Great fun until my next door Buddy's bully big brother stole it. Bastard.
@@mrrecluse7002 You don't joke about Roy like that. You don't step on Superman's cape either. And don't even think about pulling mask off of the Lone Ranger.
@@darkwood777 But to pull the mask off the Lone Rangers face would be worth it, just to see the look on his face. And as he has a reputation of such great moral character, I don't think I'd get my ass kicked. Unless, the guy who played him doesn't. So, I guess I'd be too "yellow" to try it.
Well, one thing for sure. My dad wouldn't spend $5.95 for me to get that hat. I'm guessing it was 1957 and $5.95 was a good chunk of change for a toy hat/cap gun. The equivalent purchase today would be more than $55.00. So, no, not in my house. I was 7 in 1957 and sure did love Roy & Dale on TV.
Many a saturday morning with Roy and Trigger.

I had the Mattel belt buckle Derringer that worked the same way.
When did you have one. I don't remember ever seeing a Roy Rpger's hat
@DavidLS1, I had one too. I also had a 6 shooter that shot plastic spring loaded bullets with Greeny Stickem Caps.
Hank a friend of mine had the belt buckle too.

i also had the belt buckle derringer in the very early 60's in grade school, plus Roy's metal lunchbox with a thermos.

I have one. Also the pocket knife that turned into a pistol.
I had one of those!! LoL 😅
Haha, Wokies’ heads explode as they watch this ad. In fact, I hear one screaming at the sky now!

When confronted by an armed robber... there is NO such thing as a "dirty fighter". Only someone that is well prepared.
