Weddings are temporary, very expensive (if you make them so), and after having been married for 28 years in April, the home, garden, dogs, life... the MARRIAGE is the most important part of your partnership. Do the wedding however you want, my dress was off the rack, we did the flowers ourselves and I had a little old lady in the neighborhood do my cake like a Martha Stewart photo with fresh flowers on it instead of icing sugar flowers. The whole wedding was under $3K and we didn't have alcohol because I don't drink alcohol... so, I would say to keep doing what your gut tells you - focus on your home, on your relationship and have a nice party, but it's just a moment, the marriage is the most important part of your life together. Having said that, I can't wait to see your wedding gown!! LOL...
Hi Josie, when you first mentioned getting married this summer awhile back, I thought how spectacular if your wedding was on your property. As you have moved the timeline until next summer, the beautiful grounds all in bloom and in such a historical setting was a good idea. How fabulous to have future generations see all your photos and the memories you will be making there on your wedding day.
My husband and I had a 3-year engagement. We just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in December (and have been together 14 years in total). You have the rest of your lives to be married and waiting another year won't change that at all!

As a recent bride who got married at home I love that you two are using your incredible home for such a special day❤️❤️❤️ I think the main pro that I can think of for having your wedding fairly soon after getting engaged is that at least for me it kept my vision narrow and my budget A LOT lower simply because I didn’t have time to rethink florals and add more money to my wedding budget for things that I maybe didn’t need? That’s truly to the only pro I can think of but completely agree that being married isn’t the end all be all of any relationships commitment. Congratulations angels ❤️❤️

It's been 28 years. We got married at the courthouse on our own busy schedule. Later we renewed our vows in the church where everyone could be there. My sister got married in her backyard/garden. We all had parties at home and friends taking us out to dinners of their own volition as their gifts on their schedules. Nothing was pre-planned much. No registry; we already had everything between us, being singles on our own, beforehand. We cherish every single day. I wouldn't change a thing.

Me and my now husband had been together 8 years, bought a house, got a dog then got engaged. We then waited two years to get married to save money for our wedding so we wouldn’t be in debt but had our dream wedding in the English countryside. We got married the September before Covid which was lucky because our friends and family don’t live in the UK!
Just get married now and then have a big party in the garden for your anniversary! Have a small church service with family and close friends this year and then save the big reception for next year.

Oh my goodness I can’t wait to se your wedding! It will be stunning. We were together 5 years before we got married and chose to have a “long” engagement 2 years because we just weren’t in a rush. We brought our house, travelled, saved for our wedding. 🥰 people tend to get a little over opinionated about these type of choices. The same as children, as an “older” parent (33 and 36 I had my girls, I’m 38) I had a LOT of opinions thrown at me, some a little aversive. Our wedding 19 years ago was not expensive at all. My flowers were done by a family friend my dress was only 400.00, cake was done by a friend and had a light blue icing and we went to a place called Costco, got Pink Gerber daisies to put on the cake. We had a reception at the same church we did our wedding. It was 3k. For myself and my husband, we would not live together until we were married. We had a 6 month engagement. Having a simple, small wedding was perfect. Marriage is your life, the wedding is just a party.

Although we rushed and got married and have been married seems like our entire life, 47 years. I think it is everyone's personal choice, when they decide to get married. When you get married, the vows should not be taken lightly, and when you marry it is for life. Some people don't seem to take the vows that serious. Do you, and have the wedding you want. You only get married once. Garden weddings are so magical.

Getting married in your own garden is certainly not the savings people think 😂 we got married in my husbands parents garden and the rentals were as much as a venue would have been. We saved money on food because we did just a BBQ with a family friend catering, but if we had done a plated dinner it would have been way more expensive than a venue for sure. Also the work you out into it to make everything perfect….it was basically a full time job for the month of august for my in-laws. But the memories are so worth it! Especially in a garden as magnificent as yours.

Would you and Charlie consider getting married in a small, family service (only immediate relatives) in your home? You could have a celebration next year, like a special anniversary that includes everyone. Getting officially married really did feel different to me, better, much more invested. Seriously, my husband kept pestering me to get married and finally after five years, I agreed, not thinking it would make a difference. It did and it does. Nothing is stopping you. We had a small family gathering and it was lovely. I hate the big, overblown, ostentatious weddings that seem such a waste of money and more of an ego statement; having attended many of these, they also feel very cold in a way -- it's not about how much money you throw around or what spa treatments you give your guests. . If you two really do want to get married, even a civil ceremony with a garden party could be extremely intimate and special. Why wait? Seriously? I'm surprised you two didn't elope on one of your vacations. Maybe a small family trip somewhere for the wedding? Do it. Do it now! It's not so scary, it's way better. There will always be a "reason" to delay. Now is the time for all good couples....You did ask for our imo's ...Husband and I have been married now for 15 years and going strong. Wish we did it sooner, as our lives became more intertwined and we worked way better together, rather than as simply engaged. Totally get what you’re saying about a long engagement but just to speak for the other side. We had a 7 month engagement and I loved it because it meant I couldn’t overthink every detail which I definitely would have done otherwise 😂 also I got a good bit of advice about how as soon as you get engaged you’re “ready” to be married and being in a kind of limbo can be a bit draining. But each couple to their own! X

My husband and I started dating when I was 16 and he was 19. We married on Valentine's day in 1987 after being together 7 years. We've been together over 40 years and married for 35. My dress was 20.00 and our reception was immediate family and friends in a banquet hall afterward we went dancing at a nightclub and guys kept hitting on me and asking if we were really married even though I had on my gown and my husband had his tux,lol. You are right about what really matters. Do what you want deep down in your heart. The love you have for each other and the life you are building together are what matters most. It's been 28 years. We got married at the courthouse on our own busy schedule. Later we renewed our vows in the church where everyone could be there. My sister got married in her backyard/garden. We all had parties at home and friends taking us out to dinners of their own volition as their gifts on their schedules. Nothing was pre-planned much. No registry; we already had everything between us, being singles on our own, beforehand. We cherish every single day. I wouldn't change a thing.
I remember saying to you Josie just after you moved into your new home that I cud see you getting married in the church and back to the house after, and you liked my comment I'm so delighted that that is what you're doing it will be magical ❤️

Me and my now husband had been together 8 years, bought a house, got a dog then got engaged. We then waited two years to get married to save money for our wedding so we wouldn’t be in debt but had our dream wedding in the English countryside. We got married the September before Covid which was lucky because our friends and family don’t live in the UK!

We were together 5 years before we got married and chose to have a “long” engagement 2 years because we just weren’t in a rush. We brought our house, travelled, saved for our wedding. 🥰 people tend to get a little over opinionated about these type of choices. The same as children, as an “older” parent (33 and 36 I had my girls, I’m 38) I had a LOT of opinions thrown at me, some a little aversive.

I agree with getting married not being the "be-all-end-all", the life you build together is much more meaningful than the ceremony.
Those moving videos during first lockdown helped me soooo much, I was going through a stressful time (as we all were) and I cannot stress how much yours and Lydia's videos helped me get through
Our wedding 19 years ago was not expensive at all. My flowers were done by a family friend my dress was only 400.00, cake was done by a friend and had a light blue icing and we went to a place called Costco, got Pink Gerber daisies to put on the cake. We had a reception at the same church we did our wedding. It was 3k. For myself and my husband, we would not live together until we were married. We had a 6 month engagement. Having a simple, small wedding was perfect. Marriage is your life, the wedding is just a party.

Although we rushed and got married and have been married seems like our entire life, 47 years. I think it is everyone's personal choice, when they decide to get married. When you get married, the vows should not be taken lightly, and when you marry it is for life. Some people don't seem to take the vows that serious. Do you, and have the wedding you want. You only get married once. Garden weddings are so magical.

Getting married in your own garden is certainly not the savings people think 😂 we got married in my husbands parents garden and the rentals were as much as a venue would have been. We saved money on food because we did just a BBQ with a family friend catering, but if we had done a plated dinner it would have been way more expensive than a venue for sure. Also the work you out into it to make everything perfect….it was basically a full time job for the month of august for my in-laws. But the memories are so worth it! Especially in a garden as magnificent as yours.

Would you and Charlie consider getting married in a small, family service (only immediate relatives) in your home? You could have a celebration next year, like a special anniversary that includes everyone. Getting officially married really did feel different to me, better, much more invested. Seriously, my husband kept pestering me to get married and finally after five years, I agreed, not thinking it would make a difference. It did and it does. Nothing is stopping you. We had a small family gathering and it was lovely. I hate the big, overblown, ostentatious weddings that seem such a waste of money and more of an ego statement; having attended many of these, they also feel very cold in a way -- it's not about how much money you throw around or what spa treatments you give your guests. . If you two really do want to get married, even a civil ceremony with a garden party could be extremely intimate and special. Why wait? Seriously? I'm surprised you two didn't elope on one of your vacations. Maybe a small family trip somewhere for the wedding? Do it. Do it now! It's not so scary, it's way better. There will always be a "reason" to delay. Now is the time for all good couples....You did ask for our imo's ...Husband and I have been married now for 15 years and going strong. Wish we did it sooner, as our lives became more intertwined and we worked way better together, rather than as simply engaged. As she’s an influencer she would use it as to promote and advertise businesses and get free products and also would be content for her social media. Simple and low key wouldn’t be her style.

If you are right, then this is also sad because it posits her into the uber traditional role of female as subservient or server and whose value is also placed almost entirely on her appearance. You raise such an interesting point, too, here, that perhaps Influencers appeal largely to women? Are there male influencers that you know (I don't)? Certainly, I was also suggesting that Josie might do the current trend in Vogue magazine of a destination or Rogue wedding complete with designer gown (small, uber high end), but more personalized vs the usual influencer 'blow out' weddings like a circus show. This must be such pressure if, as you say, her primary goal is for show and sell, to be the perfect woman handling the great wedding stress with the serene ease of a 1950s wife preparing a dinner party. Totally get what you’re saying about a long engagement but just to speak for the other side. We had a 7 month engagement and I loved it because it meant I couldn’t overthink every detail which I definitely would have done otherwise 😂 also I got a good bit of advice about how as soon as you get engaged you’re “ready” to be married and being in a kind of limbo can be a bit draining. But each couple to their own! X
