College drop out here! Dropping out of college was the best thing ever! I can now focus on the core skills of becoming a data analyst such as Python, Excel, SQL, and Tableau! My goal is to land a role by 2025, though I will have four or more portfolio projects by the end of this summer..
if you live in America probably, if you are in Europe good luck with that lol. you need, at the very least, a Bachelors in an engineering something. and then you have like 100 people for 1 vacancy. Because of this, people with Masters have the priority, then experience etc etc.
I dropped my Finance bachelor to pursue my true passion in IT. Starting a Data Analytics with Python course soon which also teaches SQL and several visualization tools while directly working on practical cases and building a portfolio. Already dabbling in Python a bit to give myself a headstart and can't remember the last time I had this much fun learning, looking forward to the future :)
I would also suggest to get certified in a DATA Analytics tool and getting a cloud cert such as Power Bi, Tabluea, and/or AWS Data Analytics in addition to taking the Google/IBM data analyst certificate
Thank you I plan on doing that after I complete my two courses (1. Data Camp, 2. Coursera google cert)... then plan on getting a cloud professional cert in a few platforms like AWS, I found on cloud guru.
I started a role as a technical product owner last year and I basically do business analytics now as part of my role because people have questions about our data and I love diving into it. Thankfully this meant I had to learn SQL and then I paired that with Python. Now I'm taking this Google course to learn some R and later I'll learn Machine learning as well. My ultimate goal is Data Science but I think this is a step in the right direction.
@@ibizawavey8630 Truthfully, I'm just lucky to be in this position. I had no experience in this role prior, I just knew the business side of this industry and had technical skills from my own interests. I just happened to get a manager that saw my capacity to learn and gave me the chance. With that being said, the things that have made my transitions easier were building close relationships with the developers, learning SQL and constantly asking questions in a way that lets others know I want to learn and be self-sufficient. Building a relationship with the stakeholders is huge but thankfully I already had many of those relationships in place. I had other Product Owners I could lean on for support, I read various books on the topic and continued to review how I wrote stories or prioritized the backlog to see if I can improve the process.
@@FrocketGaming Hey man, thanks for the message. I stayed up late last night doing research and I have a strategy. Having never worked in data analytics, I took your advice here and completed the Data Analysis in Python "project" on Coursera. It was my first time using Coursera, and what I got was a certificate of completion, but not really a project to show an employer. It doesn't show my work to give someone a sense of how I code or think about a problem, so I'm curious if the certificate is something an employer wants to see, or do they need a project where they can actually see what I did?
