I'm in a situation with DCS and my caseworker has done nothing to help reunite my son with me but prefers my child to live solely with his father. I have done everything DCS asked of me, but she won't even give me a reunification plan. It's been a year and a half. It's now in family court and I'm so grateful for that. I have been a legal assistant for 20+ years, and your videos definitely help me navigate the system. Thank you!

I am a grandmother and have custody of two grandchildren. This episode was extremely important to me in my situation. Both parents are on drugs and or alcohol so I have to be very careful what I say around the children but also allow the children to be protected by the behavior of the parents it is a daily struggle at times.
Joy, you are a wonderful person to take over the parenting role for your grandchildren. This cannot be easy. In my experience, when the children are ready to know information about the custody situation they will ask. If they don't ask, you just live life the best you can. If they do ask, you can find certain mantra's to say depending on the age of the children. I used things like, "I know you are trying to make sense of all of this adult stuff and when you are old enough it will be more clear. For now, just know that your mom/dad are working hard to make the best decisions possible." In your situation you can say, "I know you are trying to make sense of all of this adult stuff and when you are old enough it will be more clear. Just know that your mom/dad are doing their best to get their life together so that they can be the best parent possible. We just have to be patient while they are working through it. They know that you are in good hands right now, so let's do our best to be as happy as can be."
I love that treat others as you'd want to be treated line. If my husband and I are able to get custody of his daughter (my stepdaughter) away from her grandparents, I'm pretty sure they'd cry if we treated them as they've treated us.
Hi Lisa. I am glad you found this video helpful. I always try to treat others how I want to be treated and I literally do not say a word that will even remotely feel like I might regret it later. I am so careful with my words. Please keep coming back to see new content. Glad to have you a part of this Courtroom Companion community.
This is great information! I wish someone had my told a family member number 7-the damage done during the divorce proceedings has led to continued estrangement between parent and children for nearly 20 years now.
Kathleen, I had a friend that this occurred to as well although the estrangement only lasted 3 years. Divorce and custody is painful for everyone involved and sometimes the hurt damages relationships permanently. I hope my channel will help others who are currently in the middle of their own divorce and possible estrangement. Thanks for tuning in.

This should to be good
Can you elaborate more?
These rules seem to ONLY apply to men
What rules are you referencing?
Just don’t EVER get married
I understand this feeling well. However, after healing my heart I was able to open myself up to the idea of marriage again.
@@NakedNarcissism you’re certifiably CRAZY if you get married AGAIN
First, be w woman. If you are a man., forget it.
