  • Live at Saint Clement's Episcopal Church Philadelphia. May19, 2013. The Feast of Pentecost.
Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed, unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake, hath forgiven you. Grieve not. . . Amen

Just gorgeous and perfectly executed. I listen to this piece when life becomes too much. My soul finds calm and peace.

I'll have to say, this old piece is one of my favorites in all the music repertoire of the Church. Both soloist and choir did a wonderful rendition of the piece. I am a tenor, and I have enjoyed singing the solo, because of the melody and the beautiful text. It seemed as if the choir was a bit fuller than in other services I have heard. I like a good, solid sound, and this piece had all of the elements to bring a tear to a glass eye, I know it must have been ethereal live. Good music, good choir, good organist, and obviously, a good choirmaster---what else would one ask? I'll keep listening, and ya'll keep singing. Loved that ending!

Thank you for this eloquent interpretation of one of the most beautiful anthems in the Protestant repertory. I served as a boy chorister in an Episcopal Church in New York many years ago, and was privileged to sing this and many of the greatest works in the choral literature including Elijah, the Mozart requiem, the Brahms Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Faure Requiem, Rejoice in the Lamb, and the St. Matthew Passion during my formative years -- a splendid legacy I've grown to appreciate more and more with each passing year. However, this particular piece has stuck in my mind as particularly moving. I had not been able to hear it for many years, so thank you again for presenting this beautiful rendition -- now permanently bookmarked among my most treasured memories.

Lovely performance.....brought back fond memories of singing this both as soloist and as a chorister back in my youth in Boston.

YES! We indeed must seriously think about what would really and truly GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. In order to have that insight and deeper understanding, we must read and study the Bible intensely while praying for the Holy Spirit to provide true insight, enlightenment and growing in the wisdom and knowledge of GOD. What may seem right and good to us mere mortals, may often not be so in the mind and sight of GOD. Our arrogance and blind pride often gets in the way of HIS TRUTH, WAY AND LIFE.
