- A remake of the classic arcade game. This is not a rom hack, I coded this from scratch. It's meant to be more difficult than the original game giving players new levels and challenges. I've tried to study the original as close as I can to maintain the same feel, but added new elements. Even though it can be played on your PC, it's meant to be played in people's Windows-based arcade cabinets. It comes with a config program to map out the keys, rotate the screen, set it to free play, and other options. You can download it here: justinbohemier...
--F.A.Q.---
Q: Is this a rom or rom hack?
A: No, it's a PC game I created which can only run on Windows. The art and sounds belong to Nintendo.
Q: Why is it so hard?
A: It's meant to be harder than the original for people who want a bigger challenge, like me. If you don't like difficult games then this game isn't for you.
Q: In the original, Mario gets killed when jumping from heights, but this one doesn't. What gives?
A: Since I coded this myself, there are differences from the original. Some are intentional, some are due to laziness. It's meant to feel close to the original, not be an exact copy. I chose not to kill Mario when jumping from heights because, c'mon, he's Mario.
Q: In the original, Mario can fall through the rivet holes, but this one he can't. What gives?
A: Since I chose to not kill Mario when jumping from heights, that means you would be able to go all the way to the top of the rivet stage, fall through the top rivet, and get all the other rivets on your way down. So I decided to not let Mario pass through the holes.
Q: How did you design this?
A: Using an open-sourced programming language called Freebasic, and using the Allegro and Fmod libraries.
Q: How do I get my joystick to work with it?
A: The game doesn't support joysticks, but you can use a joystick-to-keyboard mapper like JoyToKey or Xpadder.
Q: Can this run on Mame?
A: No, Mame is designed to emulate arcade hardware, so since this is a PC game, it would never run on Mame.
Q: Can I run it on my arcade cabinet?
A: Yes, if your cabinet is running Windows. The game comes with a config tool that lets you configure everything for this purpose. If you do put it in your cabinet send me a screenshot.
Q: I found a bug or I have feature requests, how can I contact you?
A: You can send me an email to omnitronstudios@gmail.com
this is exactly the kind of stuff nintendo should be releasing in the eshop
Majoras
Super Game Boy donkey Kong is exactly this. Amazing game
@@ShoTro Yep.
@@ShoTro Super Game Boy??
Its an animtion
This looks so fun! I've always loved the idea of taking the classic Donkey Kong formula and expanding upon it with more of a puzzle approach, while still including challenging platforming. It's very much like Donkey Kong '94. I wish Nintendo will continue that series at some point...
Great execution! Very inventive twists, and it shows that you payed a lot of attention and respect to the details of the original. Awesome job.
When Donkey Kong and Bowser team up
It's harder
@Lucas Apple 🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭
Basically Kung Fu Panda
And Donkey Kong will redeem after his defeat
This is really impressive given the fact that this was made from scratch and not a modified ROM. You sir did an amazing job!
It'd actually be much more impressive if it were a ROM hack. It's not easy to just add new features to an existing game.
@@furrykef I do agree, this is good, but getting it to work on an original NES would be even better
@@furrykef welp people only like rom hacks
Was it written for the original hardware, or was it written for a PC? That's what I would like to know. If it was written for original hardware, it's impressive, if for a modern computer, this is pretty easy to do.
I should add, "easy" is a relative term. I could do it, but I wouldn't spend the time. Coding on original hardware I could *possibly* do, but I would never, ever spend the time.
champ kong was a better remake
2:20 I love how right when you died, DK’s reaction is suddenly out of nowhere just like “YUS!! Eat your heart out King Kong, I just killed Mario/Jumpman!” 😁
😂😂😂
Very cool
Lol your here
Yeah this game is awesome, especially since i,ve finaly beat it on may 22 2018, with a lucky day.
Thank you Proto, very cool!
Ya
ProtoMario but proto
Maybe this is the Original Mario Brothers Arcade Game where Chris Pratt spent hours of his life stomping ... Koopas!
This is absolutely brilliant. The addition of a prologue level, in the context of this game, is particularly clever. I also really like the little Fire Flower bonus in it! :D
Now I'm imagining a Donkey Kong Maker hack.
Donkey Kong + Donkey Kong Jr. + Super Mario Bros.
Great job! Certainly does capture the feel of the original. I've always wanted to do something like this with Lady Bug.
Man, Odyssey looks great!
brony simpson what
NathanDarkson984 お
Yoshinori Toyoda uh...
Boi
NathanDarkson984 Am I missing something? All he said was Boi
This is pretty well done, dude. Incorporating elements of Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr. and Super Mario Bros. were nice ideas.
Awesome work!
This is amazing, its like a mix of Donkey Kong 94' for gameboy and the original arcade version! People need to keep making little games like this theres something so cool and fun about them, It kind of reminds me of Toads Treasure Tracker game as well
To us, this was ADVANCED DONKEY KONG, but to Japanese gamers, it was just Donkey Kong!!!!!!!
This is totally freakin' AWESOME! Great job man!!!
It is truly amazing what people do....quite cool and I love retention of originals.
This is very nice! One thing I have to point out is that when Mario dies (2:21), his colors are reversed.
WOW. Impressive observation of detail there. O__O
He probably got the sprites from the spriters resource, there’s an incorrectly coloured donkey kong Mario sprite sheet there,
⊙__⊙
It looks cool that way
Great stuff. However, that leap at 1:06 should have killed Mario!
I was thinking the same thing. FALSE!!!
Description
lflagr Hitboxes.
I can't even highscore on regular donkey kong. This looks like an actual evolution of the game and I appreciate the attention to keeping jumpman's movements authentic.
This is really cool. Awesome job!
I'd love to see someone make a long version of donkey Kong kind of like DK 94
This is extremely cool, very amazing... I honestly wish I knew about it earlier, awesome job
Great looking game. I love how you made it so you don't die when falling from heights. A lot of people might not like that, but I do. I do notice you made the comment on your site about wanting to add more levels with an ending instead of just 4 repeating, but I think it would be better, for me personally, to have loads more levels then have it just repeat to the first, without the ending. Keep up the awesome job. I subscribed to watch if you post new stuff on this. :)
1.mario's giant calamity
2.Mario vs DK
3.a big getaway
4.dk's game over
Your creations is magnificent.
Very cool, I'll play this on my channel. Thanks for making this!
What a story jumpmans gonna tell to his son mario
Wow this is AMAZING! Much appreciation and a big thank you!
WOW!! Dude, this looks freaking awesome! I can't wait to play it!
This is well made, installed this on my cocktail machine today with no problems, love the settings as well. My joy stick works just had to change my jump botton., the game is a bit hard but I'm sure I'll get better. Great job!
This is brilliant, great job man :D
This is really creative! Awesome job!
Hi Justin, This is a brilliant remake it looks really cool, i shell definitely be downloading it. Your very clever coding this scratch and deserve an award for your brilliant looking game. Well done sir!!!
And he ignores the hat but runs back to get hit by the oil drum...
Fantastic edition of cult game Donkey Kong, this is great
One thing i'm glad to see right off the bat is that when he gets the key yet dies, the returning life doesn't make you have to go through it all again to get it.
Also very nice, Mario can fall a little and not inexplicably just DIE like in the original.
And being able to walk over small gaps without falling down them is another thankful thing. That used to bug me in the original. As if stepping on a crack in concrete kills you or something.
That would have ate everybody's quarters back then lolololol
Nice job, u deserve more subscribers!
Very impressive! Great work!!!
Very nice work and great decision on jumping. This is very close to the DK follow up I always wanted, though I'd like larger levels like Spelunker, with save points. Maybe an improved Spelunker is what I want :)
This is amazing. A better version of my favorite game.
Wow so DK wasn't hard already so you made this..... AWESOME!
amazing work justin
This would be a great 7800 or 5200 homebrew
Wow, This looks like an official Nintendo game. I'm impressed.
Kaizo Donkey Kong. As if regular Donkey Kong wasn't Kaizo enough!
Still, it's impressive how you've taken elements from Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., and Super Mario Bros., and made them all work harmoniously together.
This is awesome. Looks more fun than the original. It's really impressive that you coded this from scratch. I assumed it was a romhack at first (like I'm sure many others have). Either way, great work!
BIG thumbs up for this. You rock.
Dang! This is like every 8-bit Mario fan’s dream come true!
Brilliant, very well done!
I often play distress signal on hudgames, Wow, this video appeared to me by surprise and I really enjoyed it a lot! ❤
This is awesome!
If this rom was turned into an arcade machine then it would bring back the classic bits of the game
Bro it’s so smooth it looks like an ANIMATION.
Este vídeo es genial súper divertido y entretenido le doy 10 millones de likes like si tú también 👍
This is an awesome game! Nice work! 👍😉
Wow you really scored more points in this one!
This video reminded me of the reasons I had read as to why Nintendo did not have the original Super Mario Bros. 2 available in the United States initially (it was eventually released to the states in the form of Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels through Super Mario All-Stars and its original form through the Virtual Console service for Nintendo Wii consoles).
Mario500NOW How? Is it too hard?
I was reminded of the aforementioned reasons due to this game appearing to have settings very similar to the original Donkey Kong game and its challenge appearing to be much greater than that of the original game.
Agreed!
1:06 No death .Jumpman cannot fall from heights even if they are ridiculously short.
I didnt played this before, this is cool!
Aw dude, this looks like an Nintendo original. Well done!
Absolutely outstanding! If anyone has the ability to make this into a ROM, so it can be played on some system other than a PC, then I'd be willing to buy it - as long as Omnitron Studios received due credit and monetary compensation, of course.
I love how it's a mix of Donkey Kong and Mario franchise.
Up
This is strangely satisfying...
Oh and I like your idea of more levels with no repeate.
Looks fun
1:22 Warp Pipe.
Great job, impressive!
Did anyone note that when Mario dies, his overalls, shirt and shoes colors are reversed?
This looks pretty sweet. One thing that I noticed however is that Mario's overalls and shirt swap colors when he dies.
If Nintendo released something like this for download on the virtual console I'd totally buy it.
Wow I thought this was an authentic gameboy game, great job.
Will definitely try on my mame cabinet, very faithful to original concept.
Well im editing the comment again this comment was the first comment w/ custom level names for this video, though the names i had before the edit was lost... these are the final names i came up with:
1: Mushroom Kingdom
2: Mt. Barrel (Was The Original Name)
3: Flaming Facility (Elevator Facility Might Have been the Original Name, Don't Remember for self-explanatory reasons.)
4: Ice Tower Rivet (Was the Original Name)
"Names" plural - no apostrophe.
stop advertising
My name levels, l
Level 1 supermariobros resurrection past.
Level 2 rolling barrel back track.
Level 3 alivators of hell,
Level 4 sliding fire ball on ice.
Haha.
squares do make good pizza
Impressive! You are a born level designer! If only Nintendo had you at the time..
This is super , the sound effects🙂
1) looks tough!! 2) adorable!!
Superb!! Great work!!
In some parts its wrong a little, so when in final you breaking a part of a bridge, Mario should not to be able walk normaly through it anymore, you need to jump over, or go other way, because he will fall into the gap he made, thats how it was in original
Freakin Absolutely AWESOME
Very well made
This is amazing. Great fun.
Thanks for this.
Regards.
I wished that Donkey Kong 2 Jumpman returned had been available both in the video arcades and on every known video game systems that came out back in the nineteen eighties,it would have been so cool to have grown up playing that game as a child back then😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌.
Nintendo should definitely hire YOU
Beat it, i outsmarted donkeykong this time.
oh the Shellcreepers can be jumped on,
Also, like the use of the Snapjaw enemy of DKJr. :o
This looks gr8
There is no snapjaw in this level it doesn't even have water...
TheMitjaX 4:38
Snapjaws don't require water. They're mechanical :v
TheMitjaX besides.. Snapjaws are known to move on vines and platforms... Never in water
That's what I meant donkeykong.wikia.com/wiki/Snapjaw
TheMitjaX that is a different Snapjaw that is unrelated to the Donkey Kong Jr. Snapjaw.
The two Snapjaws hold similar names, but are both different. The one you are referring to is not in this, but the Mechanical one, however, is.
Nicely done.
I did some designs for new screens for DK a long time ago when I really got into this awesome arcade game, if I ever find them again I will code them up.
This is very good! You should get hired by Nintendo! :D
ZOMG I LURV IT!
Ever hear of cheesiness?
Seems like it would be a video from like 2007
Well done I would play this
Great level design
Nice job!
Looks very fun.
Man, dis is a wallet killer if used in an arcade.
Nice gameplay!
DAT WAS SO GOOD!
