This looks so fun! I've always loved the idea of taking the classic Donkey Kong formula and expanding upon it with more of a puzzle approach, while still including challenging platforming. It's very much like Donkey Kong '94. I wish Nintendo will continue that series at some point...
Was it written for the original hardware, or was it written for a PC? That's what I would like to know. If it was written for original hardware, it's impressive, if for a modern computer, this is pretty easy to do. I should add, "easy" is a relative term. I could do it, but I wouldn't spend the time. Coding on original hardware I could *possibly* do, but I would never, ever spend the time.
This is absolutely brilliant. The addition of a prologue level, in the context of this game, is particularly clever. I also really like the little Fire Flower bonus in it! :D
This is amazing, its like a mix of Donkey Kong 94' for gameboy and the original arcade version! People need to keep making little games like this theres something so cool and fun about them, It kind of reminds me of Toads Treasure Tracker game as well
2:20 I love how right when you died, DK’s reaction is suddenly out of nowhere just like “YUS!! Eat your heart out King Kong, I just killed Mario/Jumpman!” 😁 😂😂😂
I can't even highscore on regular donkey kong. This looks like an actual evolution of the game and I appreciate the attention to keeping jumpman's movements authentic.
Great looking game. I love how you made it so you don't die when falling from heights. A lot of people might not like that, but I do. I do notice you made the comment on your site about wanting to add more levels with an ending instead of just 4 repeating, but I think it would be better, for me personally, to have loads more levels then have it just repeat to the first, without the ending. Keep up the awesome job. I subscribed to watch if you post new stuff on this. :)
Well im editing the comment again this comment was the first comment w/ custom level names for this video, though the names i had before the edit was lost... these are the final names i came up with: 1: Mushroom Kingdom 2: Mt. Barrel (Was The Original Name) 3: Flaming Facility (Elevator Facility Might Have been the Original Name, Don't Remember for self-explanatory reasons.) 4: Ice Tower Rivet (Was the Original Name)
My name levels, l Level 1 supermariobros resurrection past. Level 2 rolling barrel back track. Level 3 alivators of hell, Level 4 sliding fire ball on ice. Haha.
This video reminded me of the reasons I had read as to why Nintendo did not have the original Super Mario Bros. 2 available in the United States initially (it was eventually released to the states in the form of Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels through Super Mario All-Stars and its original form through the Virtual Console service for Nintendo Wii consoles).
I was reminded of the aforementioned reasons due to this game appearing to have settings very similar to the original Donkey Kong game and its challenge appearing to be much greater than that of the original game.
This is well made, installed this on my cocktail machine today with no problems, love the settings as well. My joy stick works just had to change my jump botton., the game is a bit hard but I'm sure I'll get better. Great job!
In some parts its wrong a little, so when in final you breaking a part of a bridge, Mario should not to be able walk normaly through it anymore, you need to jump over, or go other way, because he will fall into the gap he made, thats how it was in original
This is awesome. Looks more fun than the original. It's really impressive that you coded this from scratch. I assumed it was a romhack at first (like I'm sure many others have). Either way, great work!
Kaizo Donkey Kong. As if regular Donkey Kong wasn't Kaizo enough! Still, it's impressive how you've taken elements from Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., and Super Mario Bros., and made them all work harmoniously together.
I did some designs for new screens for DK a long time ago when I really got into this awesome arcade game, if I ever find them again I will code them up.
Absolutely outstanding! If anyone has the ability to make this into a ROM, so it can be played on some system other than a PC, then I'd be willing to buy it - as long as Omnitron Studios received due credit and monetary compensation, of course.
Very nice work and great decision on jumping. This is very close to the DK follow up I always wanted, though I'd like larger levels like Spelunker, with save points. Maybe an improved Spelunker is what I want :)
It's sad to see the "Pies" level didn't make a rehash here; it's a little-known level you don't see in most ports. On a more positive note, it's good to see Jumpman isn't such a wimp anymore when it comes to falling. B-)
Justin Bohemier If you could come up with a sixth level type as well (personal opinion: mostly water other than the top), you'd basically be able to do a "better" version of the US arcade stage progression.
One thing i'm glad to see right off the bat is that when he gets the key yet dies, the returning life doesn't make you have to go through it all again to get it.
And being able to walk over small gaps without falling down them is another thankful thing. That used to bug me in the original. As if stepping on a crack in concrete kills you or something.
Hi Justin, This is a brilliant remake it looks really cool, i shell definitely be downloading it. Your very clever coding this scratch and deserve an award for your brilliant looking game. Well done sir!!!
What I want to know is why does this video have so many dislikes? Like, it has way more likes than dislikes of course, but that dislike count is abnormally high and I can't imagine why, this game is great!
I have a couple of guesses: Some are the purists who think the original game shouldn't be changed, or maybe some people don't like all the back-tracking in the levels. It doesn't bother me, you'll always find people who dislike you, your art, etc. I prefer to focus on the people who do enjoy it and not worry about people's opinions. If you go to the game's page on itch.io, link in the description, you can see pictures of the game in people's cabinets. That's the best compliment in my opinion, and it was worth the hard work designing it just to see that.
I wished that Donkey Kong 2 Jumpman returned had been available both in the video arcades and on every known video game systems that came out back in the nineteen eighties,it would have been so cool to have grown up playing that game as a child back then😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌.
Very interesting. But you have involved the mushroom kingdom with traditional Donkey Kong. You have have a storyline where when Donley Kong kidnaps Mario's girlfriend. He escapes to the mushroom kingdom or fond some magical way stuff from the mushroom kingdom is appearing at the construction sight in the real world for some reason.
I was like, “Wow! This is pretty cool, adding all of these new things to the original Donkey Kong!” Then I saw Level 4... “You added ice physics to the original Donkey Kong? That’s it, I’m done.” 😂
TheMitjaX that is a different Snapjaw that is unrelated to the Donkey Kong Jr. Snapjaw. The two Snapjaws hold similar names, but are both different. The one you are referring to is not in this, but the Mechanical one, however, is.
It has many similarities to Donkey Kong 94, no surprise since it has the same idea, remake the original Donkey Kong with new levels and new modernized mechanics.
this is exactly the kind of stuff nintendo should be releasing in the eshop
Majoras
Super Game Boy donkey Kong is exactly this. Amazing game
@@ShoTro Yep.
@@ShoTro Super Game Boy??

Great execution! Very inventive twists, and it shows that you payed a lot of attention and respect to the details of the original. Awesome job.
This is really impressive given the fact that this was made from scratch and not a modified ROM. You sir did an amazing job!
It'd actually be much more impressive if it were a ROM hack. It's not easy to just add new features to an existing game.
@@furrykef I do agree, this is good, but getting it to work on an original NES would be even better
@@furrykef welp people only like rom hacks

champ kong was a better remake
When Donkey Kong and Bowser team up
It's harder

Lol your here
Yeah this game is awesome, especially since i,ve finaly beat it on may 22 2018, with a lucky day.
Thank you Proto, very cool!
Ya
ProtoMario but proto
Maybe this is the Original Mario Brothers Arcade Game where Chris Pratt spent hours of his life stomping ... Koopas!
Great job! Certainly does capture the feel of the original. I've always wanted to do something like this with Lady Bug.
To us, this was ADVANCED DONKEY KONG, but to Japanese gamers, it was just Donkey Kong!!!!!!!
Now I'm imagining a Donkey Kong Maker hack.
Great stuff. However, that leap at 1:06 should have killed Mario!
I was thinking the same thing. FALSE!!!

It is truly amazing what people do....quite cool and I love retention of originals.
That would have ate everybody's quarters back then lolololol
This is very nice! One thing I have to point out is that when Mario dies (2:21), his colors are reversed.
WOW. Impressive observation of detail there. O__O
He probably got the sprites from the spriters resource, there’s an incorrectly coloured donkey kong Mario sprite sheet there,
⊙__⊙
It looks cool that way
Awesome work!
1.mario's giant calamity
2.Mario vs DK
3.a big getaway
4.dk's game over
This is really cool. Awesome job!
I'd love to see someone make a long version of donkey Kong kind of like DK 94

Nice job using the Mario Bros pipes instead of the overused SMB pipes!
Yeah, and using “1UP” to mean first player score like in a lot of older arcade games. That’s attention to detail.....
This looks pretty sweet. One thing that I noticed however is that Mario's overalls and shirt swap colors when he dies.
This is extremely cool, very amazing... I honestly wish I knew about it earlier, awesome job

My level name ideas:
1. Mushroom Kingdom - Piranha Panic
2. Metro Kingdom - Classic Boulevard
3. Industrial Kingdom - Lifts of Doom
4. Snow Kingdom - Summit Showdown.
Did you take idea from my comment for my names?
This is actually really good and better than the others
Fusion Cyborg He didn’t. And this is way better.
5.Smo (Super Mario Odessy)
Oh and I like your idea of more levels with no repeate.

1:06 No death .Jumpman cannot fall from heights even if they are ridiculously short.

You talking about the Sand Piles?
Don't know why they'd put piles of sand in an oven plate, but then - it's a video game. :-)
Tricob1974 ehs. If you mean the tan piles in a blue plate, their official enemy name is Sand Pile
Justin Bohemier yes, though, their official name is Sand Pile. Touching them would kill the player
And he ignores the hat but runs back to get hit by the oil drum...
Wow I thought this was an authentic gameboy game, great job.
If Nintendo released something like this for download on the virtual console I'd totally buy it.
Wow, This looks like an official Nintendo game. I'm impressed.
One thing i'm glad to see right off the bat is that when he gets the key yet dies, the returning life doesn't make you have to go through it all again to get it.
Also very nice, Mario can fall a little and not inexplicably just DIE like in the original.
And being able to walk over small gaps without falling down them is another thankful thing. That used to bug me in the original. As if stepping on a crack in concrete kills you or something.
I often play distress signal on hudgames, Wow, this video appeared to me by surprise and I really enjoyed it a lot! ❤
This is really creative! Awesome job!
Impressive! You are a born level designer! If only Nintendo had you at the time..
Hi Justin, This is a brilliant remake it looks really cool, i shell definitely be downloading it. Your very clever coding this scratch and deserve an award for your brilliant looking game. Well done sir!!!
This is brilliant, great job man :D
If this rom was turned into an arcade machine then it would bring back the classic bits of the game
Great game. Will you make more games like this?
Will definitely try on my mame cabinet, very faithful to original concept.
I didnt played this before, this is cool!
This looks like animation. Until I read the description.
Bro it’s so smooth it looks like an ANIMATION.

This is very good! You should get hired by Nintendo! :D

BIG thumbs up for this. You rock.

“You added ice physics to the original Donkey Kong? That’s it, I’m done.” 😂
This is an awesome game! Nice work! 👍😉
oh the Shellcreepers can be jumped on,
Also, like the use of the Snapjaw enemy of DKJr. :o
This looks gr8
There is no snapjaw in this level it doesn't even have water...
TheMitjaX 4:38
Snapjaws don't require water. They're mechanical :v
TheMitjaX besides.. Snapjaws are known to move on vines and platforms... Never in water
That's what I meant donkeykong.wikia.com/wiki/Snapjaw
TheMitjaX that is a different Snapjaw that is unrelated to the Donkey Kong Jr. Snapjaw.
The two Snapjaws hold similar names, but are both different. The one you are referring to is not in this, but the Mechanical one, however, is.
