Everyone thinks that their generation's music is the best but only my generation are correct in that assertion. We were truly fortunate to be teens in the 80s.
It annoys me to some extent that eventually some young hipster:pretentious knob will come along and say "OMG I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION!" yeah I'd like to see them try living without their computers; iPods and what have you for at least a day...
It says they recorded one song in the bathtub- It probably was "Blue Soap" . I had that on either and ep or 7' single. What a cool song. It had the sound of a shower running- but it sounded so cheesy it could have been something frying in a pan. "Blue soap, I' m washing it down" lol Love them. RIP Billy
Possibly the only band from the 80's who sound even better today than they did then. I don't think most people appreciate what we lost when Billy died. Genius.
Found out Martha was from the Muffins that fact blew my mind this week during Lifted Lockdown working from home. She is a Dr now. Beauty as well as brains. Imagine having being in Martha and the Muffins and the Associates on your list of achievements aswell as Design and a Dr.
Just so hard to choose between this and The Party Fears Two, and all because of the genius of Billy Mackenzie. Brilliant and captures the early 80`s spectacularly.
The lovely and talented Martha Ladly - formerly of Martha and the Muffins. Played keyboards on the Sulk L.P. A very cool new wave synth gal - now a professor of design.
Thank you, some real music. The 80s not all bad! The Associates, Japan, Squeeze, Terry Hall, The Beat, The Teardropes, Simple Minds to mention a few. errrr Big Country. What ever happpend to Buster?
I just suffered a f'ing shit remix just to get here. His friends should do better to keep the memory of one of the greatest male voices ever alive. I could do better - they're dragging his name through the dirt - he was VERY special never average. People should realise just how special he really was - what a waste and what a superb talent...
@@eljamandy1776 Why is my comment ridiculous? He was talented, he was good-looking, he should have loved his life. But apparently depression hits no matter what.
I just discovered them because a comment on The Cure's "Cut Here", where Rob Smith regrets not to go out with his dear friend. I'm amazed with Billy's voice, and all the band talent. They were beyond their time. Awesome!
billy was so refreshing in the 80s, a seriously talented musician who didnt take himself too seriously. where as everyone else took them selves way too seriously
Ooooooo Billy doesn't half like to tease Martha when she comes forward for that duet bit,-and he always seems to hang around the keyboard area where she IS (partyfears) where she seems uneasy about this -As if he's going to pinch her bum!! He even says in the TUBE interview "Martha's a very pretty girl" in that lovely rounded Scottish burr of his-Can't believe something wasn't going on there!!.
Dont want to seem like I'm demented or anything but the look that Martha gives billy @ 2.18 --I would leave home for,or at least give up my season ticket at the local footie club 4 and look @ her instead(on a saturday afternoon)of watching the footie!!!.-BOY! she knows how to SMILE !!! But then you girls probably KNOW... why!!!
Yes it's not an impossibility! However that would probably be quite an "aclumplishment" for someoe who's --Duke of York-- But even yourself would admit you 'd have to be "East Ham" not 2 want 2 hold her by the hand!.
@P6AKO Fox at Stourton as well Thursdays the bouncer with the grey hair who looked about 60 at the time but was 40's max .... Used to be some sweethearts there, oh to be 20 something again.........
Dear kenotram --When you say that Gary Numan was a more "aclumplished" musician, how then does one become (in your words)-"aclumplished" please tell me --I'm keen to know?
What do you mean !!! ....I go to the shop on the corner every week and today(Saturday) as a special treat to myself I may be going 4 a walk in the park !!
Jesus - I loved the Associates, summer 82, just finished my A levels with my whole life in front of me so full of promise. Now here I am almost a pensioner. But one thing I can say, I have had a fucking blast, and been very successful so no complaints whatsoever. If only we could turn back time and do it all over again.
Alive and kicking at the country club. Apparently their lead singer Billy McKenzie is the inspiration for the Smiths classic hit William, It was really nothing.
Everyone thinks that their generation's music is the best
but only my generation are correct in that assertion.
We were truly fortunate to be teens in the 80s.
Except - all our lot were trying to sound like David Bowie
Нам очень повезло, что наша юность пришлась на 80-е
It annoys me to some extent that eventually some young hipster:pretentious knob will come along and say "OMG I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION!" yeah I'd like to see them try living without their computers; iPods and what have you for at least a day...
yeah, but in the 80s - we happened to be right... ours was so the best music generation
AGREE .............
Agreed, to be a teen in the Golden era 1979 to 1984, was wonderfull, wonderfull time
very good ..damn i miss the early 80s 82 the best..music was incredible...so was everything else!.......it sucks so bad now.....unreal....

@fac5c1981 I don't get it. What does this have to do with house music?
Billyboy looks like another famous Dundonian; Soapy Soutar oot 'o OOR WULLIE.
Some people are just too good for this world, Billy was one of them.
God like band god like singer god like soul god like song god like death.
What a handsome Dundonian chap. With such a voice. Such a shame.
Possibly the only band from the 80's who sound even better today than they did then. I don't think most people appreciate what we lost when Billy died. Genius.
Their stuff was so off the wall - brilliant - no other band like them. God I miss the 80's.

Was great artist
Billy is a legend with an unbelievable voice, sadly missed
What a bassline....
It really is
....that's for sure, He's killing it. One of those players like Heaven 17's John Wilson. Still fresh today ;-)
Mik Karn? reminds me.. although not fretless
So Handsome and those cheekbones , full on cool personified.
And those move are subtle but fit the track perfectly .
Not sure if about Billy or about Martha
He was CHARISMA personified. ❤️
Martha Ladly back in the day ..... beautiful
She looks rather nice in that business suit.
One of the Muffin Marthas. They had very boring jobs as office CCCleerckkkks.

It might be lip synchin but it the tune is unforgettable, todays music is crap compared to this!
This is true drum and bass! Stunning. 80’s music was the best. So original and diverse. Every band had their own image and style.
How can someone have so much talent - love you Billy McKenzie - gone but will never be forgotten x
Incredible, what a track, such memories!
So much fun and so much style. Billy was a class act by any standards...bloody depression causes so much pain and loss...
True and sometimes all it takes is a talk with someone who can listen.
@@emmetdonnelly2072 I think there is more to Billy's death and so much death in his family the music industry is involved
To great artists RIP Billy and Alan
Martha Ladly a stunning talented LADY!
Where has this song been all my life ? Wow !! What a powerful throbbing fantastic dance song !! I'm so glad I was advised to check them out !!!
Still fresh. I always thought the bass player was on speed. Unbelievable.
Apparently they all were.
@@wattage2007
The tale’s of their stay at the Holiday Inn in Swiss Cottage is legendary.
good old speed
It was awesome being a teen in the 80's with great music like this......!!!
What a voice and what a Bass line !!
Nice to hear this being used in the Ashes To Ashes finale.
One of Scotland's gems.
I wouldn't go that far.
this guy and sal solo 2 of the best,,,,no body as good at the moment
Beautiful voice, handsome man...went too young....
Yeah ! Just a shame A-ha didn't form until 90s and The Associates were an 80s act...otherwise he might have profited out of that !!
Billy died 25 years ago today. RIP :(
2022 still great
A great era for music - having just been forced to listen to 2 hours of my step-daughters 'Jay-Z' music, this is heaven.
timeless track
I never thought I'd I'd say this but I feel sorry for the kids and the shit they have these days, we were truly spoilt in the 80's.
Sad loss to music.I love a nice falsetto, me.
Time Machine Please
ordered a taxi from London to Dundee on promoters expense... lolololo

Wonderfully bizarre song.
Beautiful Billy, we miss you so much! Wherever you are, I hope you're at peace.
Pure God given voice, I miss you Billy
Why did I forget about The Associates all these years? I'm ashamed. So happy to discover them again!! Completely unique. xx
His voice was unique.

This is so funny: 03:00
The EARLY to Mid 80's.... The BEST 'POP' MUSIC EVER !!! AS IN .... EVER !!!!!!! This falls into that criteria.
what a unique voice and style !
What a bass line !!
Wonderful absolutely wonderful.
Superb bass from session musician Michael Dempsey.............
Carsick Mick It's great, but it's MADDENING too because you keep expecting it to drop to bass level and it never does. Crazy stuff
youandwhosearmy? well, it does for the verses
he was an original member of the cure left to join the associates cos he thought the cue were becoming a bit gloomy
the cure were becoming more gloomy
How someone so talented and so good looking could take his own life is just beyond me. R.I.P. Billy I'll always love your music.
ridiculous comment

Surely THE best voice out of Scotland since "Billy" Wallace!
cool song
Those were the days.
Lovely Martha Ladly playing violin and singing (3:41). See her with Bryan Ferry backing Avalon 1982: ruclips.net/video/sPt8EvpZWF8/видео.html

Billy pulling the mic away from Martha at 3.00 - she looks a bit pissed off
A lot of this music went over my head as a teenager but how fantasic to rediscover this brilliant band all these years later...
Please tell me more I'm differently born in the wrong time. This new music now sucks.
@gauguin456 if thats true, then i must admit i never knew that. i always thought the lyrics were a bit deep.
