When I make bread pudding it rises in the oven then upon cooling it seems to shrink a little. In my non expert opinion I think mine is because of cold ingredients. I could be wrong
To meet the topping or the milk mixture reminds me of eggnog you could use eggnog and add maybe an extra egg and a little bit more spices and it would be the same thing

I'm doing this today; looks like 4-6 cups bread, 2-3 cup milk (maybe another cup), 1/2 stick butter, 1-2 cup raisins, bake at 350-375
