    I’m not on TikTok, so by the time I hear about a trend….it’s over 😂
    I do my makeup the way I want. I didn’t know about real color until 4 years ago (thank you Angie and Amy) Sometimes I want color, (matching my clothes) sometimes I want neutral (quick and easy). I never allow trends to influence me to wear makeup that doesn’t look good on me.
    I’m too old for that…….😂

    I think the weirdest thing about tik tok is that while the trends seem to change so fast because there's all these names and hashtags, actually they change pretty slowly. Tomato, latte, clean, whatever, it's all the same no-makeup look - dewy skin, lots of color on face (bronzer, blush, and/or highlight), and no eyeshadow. The last real trend was the euphoria stuff and that was like . . . 2 years ago?

    • @goldocotillo
      @goldocotillo Год назад +4

      Agree 100%. The only trend that was really different and new was euphoria makeup. The others are just no-makeup makeup in different packaging

    I had the same issue with the "clean girl" name... just because someone has noticeable makeup on does not become dirty or unclean. About the other trends or trend names... slang / lingo has always worked this way... I don't have an issue with someone calling the same trend a different name unless the name itself is not problematic.
    With the iteration of the trend itself, at the "ripe" age of 34 and with a combo face with extreme oiliness even in not super humid weather, I have some issues - in the sense that "I see it looks good right after the application on a 23-year old supermodel with perfect skin, but not for me, thank you" :)

    • @wooogie672
      @wooogie672 Год назад +9

      the whole “clean girl” thing was also just things that black and brown woman have been doing for decades (slick-back bun for example) and have been put down for doing. then all of a sudden now it’s repackaged for (mostly) white girls so they can be trendy.
      the problem i and many others have with these “trendy” names is ppl act like it’s some revolutionary thing when all of this shit has been around for a while. it also promotes microtrends which leads to people consuming things they don’t need for the trend and producing waste when the trend dies off a week or two later

    • @amberhiller
      @amberhiller Год назад +2

      The "clean" in "clean girl makeup" was intended to reference green beauty and the kind of look advertised by non toxic, organic, silicone free, paraben free, etc. brands. Like the go to look of the goop customer, I don't think anyone was going around 'I washed my face, let me make this a trend'

    I also don't understand why so many names exist for basically the same makeup. When I heard "tomato girl", I knew that's probably will be no makeup - makeup with lots of red blush, but when I thought what I would call "tomato girl" makeup, I instantly thought of Instagram's mushroom cosplay. You know, cute with freckles and big fantasy mushroom hats. Tomato girl would be freckled, with lots of red blush, artsy red eyeshadow and maybe some artful eyeliner, etc.😂

    I've noticed the no eyeshadow trend too or what gets me is when they apply a little sweep of one or two matte shadows that are close to their skin tone and I'm like, "wait, why do you have that full palette?" or, "you're wearing eyeshadow?" 🤣
    Whereas I'm like a mix of you and Heather in that I love neutrals and colors, sparkles and mattes, drama or at least visible. I've been loving and applying eyeshadow since high school. Your channel actually helped me become more of an eyeshadow girlie. I was always into makeup even when I was younger and in high school theatre. During the beginning of COVID, I was definitely all about skincare and taking a break from wearing makeup every day, but as time went on I would look at all my pretty makeup and think "why am I not wearing it". And so I started walking my dog in full multichrome, glitter glam and I haven't stopped. And I LOVE IT! I think you really hit the nail on the head about how this new trend is not liking eyeshadow. I was actually talking to a customer at Ulta a few months ago and I was helping her update her foundation (she had on bright orange eyeshadow) and we were just talking about how when get into makeup nowadays they get into the part that I find "boring" which is just foundation and concealer. I've always been a "you do you" type of person when it comes to the appearance of others, but I definitely wish people were less nervous about making trends their own and really trying to have fun with makeup.

    On one hand I think it's cute that all these minimal makeup looks are getting their own little themes; on the other...none of this is reinventing the wheel. It's just low-key makeup in different tonal families. When I first heard "Strawberry Makeup" I immediately thought of Lisa Eldridge Strawberry Shock lipstick, that colour, on the lips and cheeks with some dewy sparkle (like those expensive white strawberries) on the eyes. "Tomato Girl" is rich plum or yellow on the eyes with warm red lips, like heirloom tomatoes at a farmers market. The only one that's really doing what it says on the tin is "Latte Makeup", and that's pretty much how I wear my makeup four days out of seven, so...?

    I was super underwhelmed with the "cold girl" trend; I thought it was going to be super sparkly, with rhine stones, white eyeliner, a ton of highliter (even blue highliter)...but no...just a little bit more blush and a slight sheen on the lids...how exciting

    Oh, it’s so true. The trends are so hyped and so quickly over and done with and on to the next it’s hard to keep up. At the same time that they’re hot and “new”, we’ve seen it before but they named the trend something cute. Cold girl, tomato girl and strawberry girl all seem like the same thing. It’s like brands discontinuing products just to re-release them under a new cute name with an updated packaging, lol! Love your interpretation of tomato girl though! Let’s get inspired by trends and put our own spin on them!

    I agree about tik tok. I prefer long form content in general and tik tok is too random creating boredom for me. I like to learn and get more information about things. I love your personality and it really comes thru on YT. I also like to multitask with longer videos that I choose depending on what I feel like watching that particular day.

    Gen Z Here :) Lots of my girlfriends love an eyeliner and metallic shimmer look! Some wear neutrals, like a brown in their crease. I LOVE eye shadow though - maybe partly because I'm an artist myself! I will always have fun with colours and trying new combinations. I watch you because you're such an inspiration for me to continue doing what I love!

    Love the look. I'm glad you said they are all the same look, because that's what i thought as well. I thought tomato girl was going to be a colorful eyeshadow look with some reddish cheeks. I was disappointed to see it was looking more like a five year old got ahold of mom's blush. I agree on the TT algorithm is terrible. I prefer being able to choose with my mood. It also annoys me when someone has a part 1,2,&3 etc and they are not back to back on their feed in TT. You made so many points in this video that I was agreeing with. Have a great day, can't wait to watch the next video.

    I loved that you did your own spin on it! And yes, it's getting out of hand on tiktok imo. People just make up everything nowadays 😒, I mean, what's next, ramen noodles makeup? Mac n Cheese makeup? Hot cheetos makeup? (Let me stop before I give the tiktok kids ideas 🤣😩)
    And what you said is absolutely right, you don't have to adapt your own makeup style just to fit in with the trend. Just do your own thing, it makes you authentic ✨️
    Angie, our makeup preferences look very much alike. I also absolutely love eyeshadow, that is the most fun part for me, even though I also enjoy a good complexion.
    I'm just happy to be here, and thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it. Much love from Amsterdam 🩷✨️

    I like to play with trends a bit and amp them up to my own style, such as doing literal “doe” eyes- more dramatic eyeshadow going from really light to really dark brown, taking hints of doll eye and costume makeup to really exaggerate the soft, round shape, and adding white eyeliner dots to mimic deer’s spots. Becoming one with the deer lmao

    I'm into hiking and I remember hearing about a "soft hiking" trend. Which basically boils down to hiking at your own pace. As an avid slowpoke hiker I found that amusing and slightly annoying. I think with the need to market ourselves and have catchy hashtags to get content to take off on social media that the whole manufactured trend thing is way out of hand. Okay now to actually watch the rest of this video. Love the topic btw!

    I do my make up as an expression of me. What colours I choose is dependent on my mood, sometimes I like matching my clothes and sometimes I want simple neutral. I love colour and eyeshadow is the fun part of make-up. I love contrast too. Or foiled or sparkly fairy dust vibes. I am over 50 with sensitive combo skin. I don't have Tic toc

    I see all these trends online but when I go out, most girls are still doing 2016 but like a modern version. I see matte & full brow, no fluffy brows. No fake freckles etc. If I’m wearing make up I want it to show. Either all natural or bolder makeup.

    Hi Angi! I don't know why older makeup looks are given a name after years of wearing the same way we have been wearing makeup for years. I guess to make it a lil more interesting and fun. Or for the views like you mentioned. Or both 🤷‍♀️😁.
    I watched a video with makeup by Nikki Larose and she created an Espresso eyeshadow look. It's brown eyeshadow 😊.
    I'm looking forward to seeing more colorful eyeshadow looks again. No makeup and brown eyeshadow looks are okay in a pinch for me when I am in a hurry but otherwise I love to play in colorful looks ❤❤❤.

    I sometimes watch TikTok when I can't sleep at night. My feed varies. One time makeup, then cats and other times sad stories of people dying or getting ripped off. So frustrating (excetp for a good cat video.) I do love Utube because I can choose. Lately, I've heard people commenting that they want only 3-5 minute videos because they loose interest. I want content creators to give me a mental picture with their words. If it takes an hour, I'll watch it (maybe in two sessions). Have we as a people become so (I don't know the word for it) that we can only listen to 30 seconds of anything with out needing the "new" thing. Started to watch your video at 6am (Thank you kitty cat), fell back asleep and now it's night and I finished it. Perhaps your thoughts have stayed with me all day.
