The amount that the bar owners have to pay these girls, with their commissions and other income, the girls make more money than the bar owners do. IMHO that's why he sold the bar. He may have been "profitable" but not nearly enough profit to justify the investment and time. To say you are profitable doesn't mean anything unless one states how much profit. If you are there 6-7 days a week, 8-12 hours a day, making 10,000-20,000/month profit is nothing. The bottom line is your investment is totally dependent on the reliability of Thai bar girls. That's scary.

Very good interview. I told my girlfriend the same thing, LOL, fly into Mexico and walk across, I'll pick you up in Texas. But i'm scheduled to be back in Thailand the first week in May and one our first stops will be Koh Chang.
It's a shame when any new hip restaurant, bar, or nightclub closes. It was tough enough before the shutdowns for anyone to start a new business. My own personal experience is that you are never guaranteed success in starting any new business venture. I followed recommendations to have at least enough capital or cash reserves to be able to operate at a loss for 2 to 3 years. If you don't make money after that it is best to walk away. Most small businesses understandably don't have that much money or time to operate for 2 to 3 years to find out if it will be profitable. Plus, Covid was a double whammy and destroyed so many businesses like resorts, cruise lines, and the hospitality industry in general.
Extremely interesting interview. Who would blame the attractive ladies for going to places, where they get paid twice or three times as much for a comparable job? They are there to make money, nothing else. The leading Agogos are full of ladies (+100) and also customers, who are willing to pay the asking prices.
Great video! One thing i really wanted to know is if he ever had to give any kickbacks to the boys in brown if you know what i mean. I would be a bit worried about that.
During my November trip I used "Backyard Bar" quite a few nights because it had a decent pool table and so did many others, I could make a lot of comment but will not.
I got the feeling David has never got the highs about anything in life." I walked away with a nice chunck of money"..nothing inspirational about building a good business over a period of time and helping people with their holiday. Yeah go back to America I could care less if u made a brass razoo. Love your channel😎
brilliant video daz, its great to hear david made a handsome profit has so many do fail and lose everything, but he went the right way about it using a lawyer, he did what he wanted to do and made a success of it which must make him feel proud, not a stupid man he knew when to get out and good luck to him with whatever he does next, i love a success story as much as i love your stories from your hairdresser friend lol
Enjoyed this and agree with his reasoning about selling other than his Daughter getting older and starting to walk one month after he decided to stay. Did he assume his Daughter would never walk? Found that strange he mentioned that. However, he seems a genuine guy and comes across well. Good luck for the future
I was thinking for a minute, where do I know this guy from. Got it eventually - he did a video from the disc golf course in Pattaya (Fasai-Iko). Very familiar looking shirt he's wearing as I have one myself now as well!🙂
Fair play to him for lasting 12 months as i predicted on one of your 'building of the bar' videos that he'd only last 9. Did he make a profit every month? Who knows though tbh i doubt it as to me he sounds like the heavy gambler friend that most of us English and Australians have who'll only tell you about his big wins but never about his big losses.
Thanks Daz, is nice to listen good news sometimes. Great that David didn't loose money and do it because he want, not be forced to do it. Just leaving the alcohol away is already a great step towards happy life.
He did good research and due diligence, but he also lucked into finding the right location at the right price and getting good people involved. Pothole has changed beyond all recognition. If he's opened it in somewhere like Soi 3 (beach rd) or one of the less used Sois off Bukhao then I think he'd have had a much tougher time making money and selling for a profit. Not to mention the disaster getting caught up with dishonest staff can be. I'm sure he will look back on his Bar time as an awesome experience. Good for him.
Great interview Daz. I did stop by The Backyard. I did mention seeing the Bars Construction on"Everything Pattaya."👍 I like the bar. I am still a bit sad that My memory of walking a few steps from Canterbury Tales to the Back yard Bar will never happen again.
When I first since this a year ago I was thinking he must have money to waste but if it's true he's still in the black with lessons learned good on him but with not wanting to do it again is it worth now days anyway interesting story thanks enjoyed watching,
Do you remember the scrap yard bar in Pattaya? It had a circular pool table. Cannot remember where the hell I was and what the name of the road was. Any ideas?
That's what normally should happen concerning bar ownership in Thailand, in build it then sell within one - two years. Make the books look good then sell like a hot potato. Get your money back & with a bit of luck make a bit too before the bar becomes old hat ? If you have a good idea & the bar is doing very well, then the Thai's will copy it & do it cheaper then you, thus turning your bar into a loss eventually.
It's snowing in the midwest right now. We've broken the mass shooting seal for the year with two back to back shootings. People are celebrating a new commuter rail line in NYC that's been in the works since 1963 as if that's something to be proud of. I gotta be honest with ya. Tear that K1 Visa app up. Ain't much to come back to out here in the US of A😒😒😒
Having been twice in 6 months the second visit was more costly all around. Flights, accommodation, food, drink, entertainment…I’m starting to look at South American now over SE Asia.
strange, I spent the whole of October and November there (even saw Daz in Dive bar one afternoon) and apart from a few baht here and there (which was offset by the better exchage rate of 42/43 to the £), the only thing I found more expensive compared to my February 2020 trip was the air fare
Daz, another great informative video. You connect so well with people. How do I send you a donation to help support the channel and also I want you to have lunch and a drink on me. I really enjoy your videos. 👍🏿
First stage of being a Patts addict is saying you want to buy a bar 😅 the number $1m baht was mentioned and he said you could easily buy a bar and build it for that…. Doubling his money, does that mean he grossed 2m out of the sale of the bar so a $30k dollar profit. Business owners always calculating 😊
He pretty much bought a bar in the middle of a pandemic and sold as we returned to normal. He probably could have done nothing to the bar and probably made more.
@Thai Dreamin 100% well done. I'm not critical of your actions. I'm simply saying that had you bought the bar, let's say a year before the sniffles, and had to sell during the sniffles, it's a different story. Also, had you just left it, you would have made as much possibility more as it's an empty canvas. On making a living from the bar for a year, you probably could have made a living anyway working a normal job. The experience is probably your biggest win. Again, I'm not critical. I'm simply pointing out that your timing was perfect.
Glad to hear that his business went well and thathe sold, as he implies, his business at a profit. Glad for him. I actually wonder if the nature of his being a 'family man' working in the (let's not mince words here) the local sex industry might have some effect or influence on his own life. I'm reasonably sure that many wives might be reticent to see their husbands start a bar in the sex industry, but who knows. I know a guy in the Philippines who started up a massage parlor, ended up having an affair with his co-investor lady, had his marriage affected as a result, etc. etc. It's a risky proposition.
@@mmaranta785 I agree but I still wonder about the deleterious effects of his business on his life. Without judging, he’s a pimp in a sense and there’s no escape from that. I don’t care personally but I still wonder
I was in pattaya pre covid went back Dec I noticed big big differences places shut..biggest change was girls prices if bar owners/girls thinks this will encourage more tourists then your very much mistaken spoke with several men saying they seriously considering not going back I was asked 3000 st.I just walked away ..
@@ThailandTales33 That is not true. Price increases in Thailand has very little to do with inflation. If inflation was 5 % that would mean that if a girls wanted 1000 baht before, she is now asking for 1050, not 2000 baht for ST. ok? So many people belive that the price increases has to do with inflation, it has to do with trying to squeeze higher prices from tourists. I have seen internet ads with good looking girls having short time rooms and asking 1000 baht for 30-40 minutes from thai men. The same prices being asked for tourists is 1500-2000 for same time in a room in a bar. So not really about inflation.

During my November trip I used "Backyard Bar" quite a few nights because it had a decent pool table and so did many others, I could make a lot of comment but will not.
@Stan the Man correct
I will not say anything derogatory about David, one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet. I am glad he has made a profit selling the bar.
I got the feeling David has never got the highs about anything in life." I walked away with a nice chunck of money"..nothing inspirational about building a good business over a period of time and helping people with their holiday. Yeah go back to America I could care less if u made a brass razoo.
Love your channel😎
Taking care of the ladies and keeping them happy is the only way to run a bar!
brilliant video daz, its great to hear david made a handsome profit has so many do fail and lose everything, but he went the right way about it using a lawyer, he did what he wanted to do and made a success of it which must make him feel proud, not a stupid man he knew when to get out and good luck to him with whatever he does next, i love a success story as much as i love your stories from your hairdresser friend lol
Good Video 📹 👍 👌 👏.
Stay Safe 💕 💞 🙏 🙏
Enjoyed this and agree with his reasoning about selling other than his Daughter getting older and starting to walk one month after he decided to stay. Did he assume his Daughter would never walk? Found that strange he mentioned that. However, he seems a genuine guy and comes across well. Good luck for the future
1st kid, so all the experiences are new. So I quickly learned that having a child walking in central pattaya is not ideal.
@@ThailandTales33 fair enough. Good luck in the future mate
Thanks
fascinating! always wondered about cost ratio, profit margins et,c, he explained it well. Is it a trade secret??? 555
Videos with actual numbers coming soon to my channel.
I was thinking for a minute, where do I know this guy from. Got it eventually - he did a video from the disc golf course in Pattaya (Fasai-Iko). Very familiar looking shirt he's wearing as I have one myself now as well!🙂
Haha niiice
I like this guy! He is the only person I’ve seen that actually says Pattaya correctly….it’s 3 syllables….patt- a -ya!…..
R4K says it properly too
Ahhhh. The Base.. Bld B.. Great memories...
One of the few who made a profit. Dont spend it all on Weed bro 😅
Hi one of your recent videos explained street talk “ ban eye “ and “ by do eye “ can’t find it could you tell me please.
Bye Nai means " where are you going ? "
Bye Dooai means " we go together"
He did good research and due diligence, but he also lucked into finding the right location at the right price and getting good people involved.
Pothole has changed beyond all recognition. If he's opened it in somewhere like Soi 3 (beach rd) or one of the less used Sois off Bukhao then I think he'd have had a much tougher time making money and selling for a profit.
Not to mention the disaster getting caught up with dishonest staff can be.
I'm sure he will look back on his Bar time as an awesome experience.
Good for him.
Thanks, and yes it a lifetime memory I’ll never forget!
Great blog ...👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you 😊
excellent. actually near my staying hotel 😂😊
Hey man! I'll be coming over to Pattaya in March, any chance of grabbing a drink together?
Cheers!
Great interview Daz. I did stop by The Backyard. I did mention seeing the Bars Construction on"Everything Pattaya."👍 I like the bar. I am still a bit sad that My memory of walking a few steps from Canterbury Tales to the Back yard Bar will never happen again.
Thanks for coming by
@@ThailandTales33 is the bar going to be renamed or keep the same?
Weather in Koh Chang is terrible - non stop raining 🌧️
Good video.
best wishes for him and his young family...
When I first since this a year ago I was thinking he must have money to waste but if it's true he's still in the black with lessons learned good on him but with not wanting to do it again is it worth now days anyway interesting story thanks enjoyed watching,
All true
Do you remember the scrap yard bar in Pattaya? It had a circular pool table. Cannot remember where the hell I was and what the name of the road was. Any ideas?
This was a good series
Ain't much to come back to out here in the US of A😒😒😒
Haha I’m taking my sweet time
@@ThailandTales33 enjoy that time man. I finally got myself a full remote job and I'll be flying out there in just 15 days for a 3 month trip!
You can click the Gift App link just below the video
First stage of being a Patts addict is saying you want to buy a bar 😅
the number $1m baht was mentioned and he said you could easily buy a bar and build it for that…. Doubling his money, does that mean he grossed 2m out of the sale of the bar so a $30k dollar profit. Business owners always calculating 😊
I’ll be running some numbers videos on my channel if interested in more breakdowns
Great to hear.
Yup, I was there in Nov 2022 and there were not alot of young pretty girls. Most massage and bars had older women working there
A lot
all the best David
A story with a happy ending.
He pretty much bought a bar in the middle of a pandemic and sold as we returned to normal. He probably could have done nothing to the bar and probably made more.
Naw, was able to make a livable salary for my family all year plus a nice chunk of money with the sale
@Thai Dreamin 100% well done.
I understand now. And yes I agree, the timing way KEY!
No issues with my family. My girlfriend was part of the bar just like me.
@@ThailandTales33 ok then good to know!
I was in pattaya pre covid went back Dec I noticed big big differences places shut..biggest change was girls prices if bar owners/girls thinks this will encourage more tourists then your very much mistaken spoke with several men saying they seriously considering not going back I was asked 3000 st.I just walked away ..
Yes prices have gone up for sure. Just like majority of the world
@@ThailandTales33 That is not true.
Very interesting video!
