Education in US is not free unless one has high academic achievements and test scores or is eligible for need based scholarships( these are the only 2 conditions that will get you excellent aid). The title of this video can mislead. I have put 4 kids through college here in US. Only one got 100% scholarships to get through undergrad and took loans for Harvard Law School.
Yes, a student is eligible for stipends and aids when one gets here.
For those who are outside US and want to pursue education here, work hard. Get good grades. Do very well in your SAT/ACT/GRE/TOEFL.. get good rec letters. If you can afford to pay in the beginning, consider it as an investment in yourself. Because education here is of high quality and sets your stage for life. Good Luck!!

As an American, with a 3.82 GPA, I have to say your video skipped a lot of what actually gives student “free” education. I didn’t get any good scholarships, and I’m using financial aid. 3.82/4.0 was my score, and I got denied from top universities.
Additionally, loans here in the states will ruin your bank in the future, some spend 15-30+ years paying back their loans.
Finally, every state will charge you differently and as an ‘out of state’ you will pay the same as an international student, 40k+ USD per year, if you don’t get any of their ‘aid’ or ‘international student scholarship’
Sorry guys, it’s not as ‘magical’ as it may seem.

Clarification: The courses taken in the first year or two of college include a mixture of “general educational requirements” or “core classes.” These are the basic classes that the videos calls “prerequisites,” but that is not the correct term for them. A prerequisite is any class that must be taken before a student is allowed to take harder class in the same field. For example, if a student wants to take Abnormal Psychology, they probably have to take Introduction to Psychology first. Intro to Psych (as it’s often called by students) is a prerequisite for Abnormal Psychology.
The word “prerequisite” can be understood if you separate the prefix “pre-“ (meaning “before”). The rest of the word “requisite” is related to the word “require.” Together, they mean “required before.”
The understandable confusion comes from the fact that many classes that serve as prerequisites also cover core requirements. A person studying engineering might take Intro to Pscyh to satisfy a core requirement of a social science class.

It's pretty difficult to get free education there. Even if you get full scholarship you will need to pay for insurance ($500-5000 a year), books, library fee, technology fee, science, lab, applying for college, visa, toefl, sat, airplane ticket, deposit for housing. Also, converting international grades to USA GPA costs around $300 plus you have to find an English notary who has to certify and translate it. That's around $200... Conclusion: there's no free education...

    • @aleksandarr4651
      @aleksandarr4651 2 года назад +12

@@eplhighlights1minute66 The minimum expenses for your first year would be $5500. For the second year 1000-1500 less because you won't have toefl, sat, application, grades converting and visa expenses. However, $5500 is a minimum minimum if you have full ride scholarship (tuition, housing&food). Just imagine if you do not have completely free housing and food which would probably happen... your costs for the first year may go up to $18 000(dorms are 10-15k) if you live at the dorms, or $11500 (house/apartment rent $200-800 and food 150-400 a month) if you live at the house with 1-4 roommates. Of course there is an opportunity to work on campus. You just need to find a job and they will help you to apply for social secutity number. When you get that number (2-6 weeks) you can start working maximum 20 hours per week and make around $10 dollars per hour, depends on a state. Also, if you are an athlete you probably won't be able to work full 20 hours per week during the season and your expenses would be a little bit higher because of eligibilty cost ($150 and you also need to send them your high school transcripts translated and orginal that's around $100-350) plus medical exam every year which is around $120.

Other options for helping to pay for school:
    1) Resident Assistant in the dorms. This pays for all your room and board which is half the cost of going to school.
    2) US Military. The US military will accept non-citizens; you can begin your education while still in the military, and once you separate from the military, you are eligible for all the same educational benefits afforded to all veterans. There are five different military branches, so there are a lot of different occupations to suit everyone’s personality.

I honestly had the opposite experience. I was born in amerikkka and had become suicidal there. It’s so boring, I lived in New York and it is so racist especially Long Island. I’ve been to the states but they have nothing no beauty like europe. Europe is more beautiful and I have now moved finally to Scandinavian country. Scandinavian countries are so beautiful and my suicidal ideation is over. It’s a socialist country too so I have all the support I need. It’s so beautiful and there are no levels no competition so no depression and low self esteem, eveyone is happy and there is no one poor here. Evryone can afford things. I would never go back to amerikkka. It was not as beautiful as Sweden or Norway. People are way nicer too. I am saying this as an Ex amerikkkan. Norway is so light like I feel it’s more nature and fresh air in America The air smells like gasoline and it’s so dull. I felt so depressed all the time.

Great video - thank you for this! A small note from my own experience on 4:05, 4:13, and 4:24 - Typically, a Ph.D. in the USA takes not four but four to five years (sometimes up to seven years). However, it depends on many factors like your research, subject area, school etc. Also, when you are trying to apply for a Ph.D. in the USA, it is not necessarily required to have your research 'topic' for specific areas of specialization. Of course, you have to narrow down your research interest, which can be further improved by working with your Ph.D. advisor - again, this depends on the Ph.D. program, school, etc. Hope this helps!

@@muhammadjonzoirov1086 TOEFL Or IELTS score lets admission officer know that you can read, write, speak and understand English. Your Academic performance is assessed from your transcripts and based on your standardized test scores from ACT or SAT or GRE or GMAT whichever one applies. You also need to get good recommendation letters from your teachers or employer and write a convincing personal statement why you want to study in the US. If all of the above are very good, you could get good academic scholarships or 100% tuition waiver( if you are an exceptionally good academic performer). Now remember, the ivy leagues ( Harvard, Stanford , Yale and other top schools don’t give any academic scholarships because they claim that 100% of their students are ‘star’ students and that is true.

I translated my diploma as Master degree, all my university representatives signed the docs as well and I participated in the program. Legally you can apply as a Bachelor. I did it illegally. Luckily, right now education system in Ukraine corresponds international standards and, as a result, less issues to deal with when you apply for university abroad 😀

Few applicants are admitted to schooks like Columbia (under 5% of applicants). If your daughter wants to be in NYC, she can apply to Hunter College or Baruch College. Excellent education at a fraction of the cost. The maker of this video seems lovely and very sincere, but all I hear from her is Stanford, Yale and Harvard, so she is focused too much on the most highly selective schools with low admissions rates. A much bigger world exists outside these schools, which do not offer merit aid.
