Waylon was the outlaw, he bucked the Nashville system and recorded music his way. He was on and produced country’s 1st platinum album The Outlaws which you should check out. Two years later Waylon had the 1st triple platinum album. Waylon is the GOAT

Waylon started his music career in Rock as a band member for singer songwriter Buddy Holly. Holly had parted ways with his original band The Crickets. Waylon was a friend and was touring as a band member with Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. The song American Pie was written about "the day the music died." Buddy had chartered a private plane and Waylon would have died with him that day if he hadn't taken pity on The Big Bopper and let him have his place because he (the Big Bopper) was sick. The heater on their tour bus didn't work and it was so cold one of the men on that bus got frostbite. Buddy Holly was so influential in his short life that two rock bands were named in his honor, the Beatles and the Hollies. Waylon did all kinds of music, mostly country with a beat.

Outlaw Country is its own genre. Waylon, Cash, Willie and Kris Kristofferson were a Super group and owned Country music for a moment. They were called The Highwaymen.

Older country is so much better than New Age country. It was a mix of old 60-70s rock influenced by Hank Williams and what not. I don't like country that much but there's some very good songs by these older artists. New Age Country is too over produced. Something about the rawness of the older music

Waylon played bass for Buddy Holly. They were on a tour in Minnesota Iowa and Michigan in the middle of February. The buses did have heat. Buddy charted a plane to get to Moorhead. Waylon was suppose to be on the plane but gave his seat up to the Big Bopper who had the flu. Richie Valens won a coin flip with Tommy Allsup. February 3 1959 the day the music died. Buddy told Waylon I hope you freeze your ass off on the bus. Waylon came back with I hope your plane crashes. Waylon always blamed himself. He never lived it down.

He thought that remark caused the crash for a long time. Waylon was only around 20 years old when Buddy died.

He was also supposed to be on the plane that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valenz, and the Big Bopper. He was Buddy Holly’s bassist if I remember, and gave up his seat on the plane for someone that had the flu. And supposedly Buddy told Waylon he hoped his bus froze and Waylon told him he hoped his plane crashed, and we know what happened.

Waylon's wife was Jessie Coulter. Struggle Jennings was her grandson. Waylon was step-grandpa to Struggle. Waylon and Jessie had a son Shooter Jennings, who is a singer and musician. Jessie's first husband was legendary guitarist Duane Eddy. Waylon's first son provided him with grandson Whey Jennings, another fine singer and songwriter. He sounds a lot like Waylon.

Willie wasn't there. Waylon was in a recording studio trying to record some songs when the FEDs came through the back door. Waylon had a cocaine habit for years. I was a young fan and I was worried for Waylon when I heard about the drug bust on TV.

  • @sandramoore

Thanks for reacting to my all time favorite male country singer. When Waylon sang a lyric, you felt it. The lyric refers to an incident when during a recording session, the Feds raided Waylon and his crew looking for a shipment of cocaine. According to the song, he was "busted for possession of somerhing that was long gone." Waylon, Willie Nelson and some others were called Outlaws and their music was called Outlaw Music, in the pages of Country Music magazine based in New York City. The arrest happened in the 1970's. I recommend a listen to "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line," "Lonesome, Onry and Mean," and "Out Among the Stars." Those are all fine performances by Waylon, along with several hundred others.

  • @pageribe2399
    @pageribe2399 29 дней назад

It was coccaine. Waylon had quite a habit for 21 years. Then quit.
    The story in the song:
The Feds had followed a package of coccaine from his manager's office in New York to the music studio where he was working. Waylon had it sitting on his music stand, but when he realized the Feds were in the building, he tossed the package behind a baseboard in what he described as a miracle shot. Long story short: at some point while the Feds were there his drummer, Richie Albright, retrieved the coke and flushed it away. Anyway, Waylon was arrested but the charges were eventually dropped (no evidence). He said that, even so, the whole ordeal cost him around $100,000.
This all happened in the late '70's, but Waylon didn't quit coke for another 6 years or so. No rehab. Cold turkey.
It was basically clean up or die.
This song is a pretty accurate play-by-play of the whole ordeal.
Yes, the beautiful woman in all the the pics is his wife, Jessi Colter.
Waylon passed away in 2002. Jessi is still alive. They were married from 1969 until his death, 32 years.
One last thing: A publicist named Hazel Smith was the first to use the term Outlaw to describe him. It had nothing to do with drugs; she used the term because Waylon bucked the country music system in Nashville. He wanted to make his music HIS way, with his own writers and musicians.

He done amphetamines for 15yrs and then had a $1500 dollar a day coke habit for 10yrs. He rented a house outside of Phoenix and quit cold turkey. This song is the feds tracked a package of coke to his studio but his drummer flushed it down the toilet and all he caught was a possession charge from what was left in the bag.

There is concert footage on RUclips where Cheryl Ladd came up to Waylon at the microphone and told him how handsome he was. For young folks who don't know, Cheryl Ladd was one of the stars of Charlie's Angels. And only the most beautiful women got those TV roles. So yes, there were groupies for the country music stars. Waylon's beautiful dark-haired wife Jessie Colter was equally beautiful. I'm sure she did her best to keep her man and it worked because their love was real.

I’ll try to keep it short, yes true story, yes that is his wife, the song is about him trying to kill her one night while he was messed up, that’s why in the 1st verse he said they spent the night protecting you from me, kris kristofferson, was country then got into Hollywood, he’s whistler in the blade movies, also Hank Williams Jr. Was part of the Outlaws, it’s more considered Outlaw Country cause they just sang about wild nights, drugs and woman, pretty much Outlaw Cowboys of country music, hopefully this help 🤷🏻

U was tryin to think of what u know about country & u said one guy with dark sun glasses. U wasn't sure if that was Johny Cash. U was probably thinkin of Hank Williams JR? Who is freinds with & made similar type songs as Johny Cash & also Wylon Jennings. All three of those guys have had close friendships & made music together. But Hank Williams Jr had the dark glasses almost like a trade mark but they are to cover scars & a badly damaged eye. If that's who u are thinking of he has the glasses , cowboy hat & dark bearded face. Earlier yrs long hair as well? If u watch football u would know him from the Monday night theme song, "are u ready for some football". That's Hank Williams Jr A.K.A. Bocephus. He wears the glasses & has the mountain man beard for a spacific reason. He was in a mountain climbing accident when the doctors say he should have died. He fell off a mountain & went down 500 ft & hit his head & face on a Boulder that stopped him. He has had 8 facial reconstruction surgurys. He had to learn to walk & talk again. He has a big plastic plate in his head. He covers the scars with the beard & glasses. It split his head open so bad they said his brain was exposed! He had to lie there awake for 4 hrs like that before a chopper could get into where he was to help him. His eye popped out of his head.
They made a movie about him. U should check it out. It's called living proof. He is a tuff SOB!!!

This guy is clueless. The term outlaw has nothing to do with hip hop or rap.
The term outlaw came from the wild west, people like cowboys and the famous Jesse James who robbed banks and or broke other laws like murder, horse thieves, cattle or hog thieves. Country music, blue grass, folk music, hillbilly or mountain music and rock a billy music and opera music is the oldest types of music in the world. Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis where considered rock a billy which means country and rock n roll. Waylon and Willie Nelson where country music. When Waylon Jennings first started some of his songs where considered rock a billy.
