- The Central Washington University Jazz Band 1, under the direction of Chris Bruya, performs Thad Jones' "Central Park North" at the CWU 2016 Spring Quarter Jazz Night
Soloists:
Hannah Mowry-Flugelhorn
Lucas Simpson-Soprano Saxophone
Nick Conkle-Trumpet - Видеоклипы
That flugelhorn solo is the best change of texture I’ve ever heard
7:02 Takes the most lit solo of 2016
nonchalantly bows
monster performance from everyone, especially alto 1 and trumpet 2.
Trumpet 2 is the flugel solo. The trumpet solo is trumpet 4, assuming the director goes with the customary section placement. 2, then lead(s), then 3, finally 4.
@@mikeprevost8650 I believe the flugel solo is tpt 4 or 5 (if this tune has 5 tpt parts). Because their lead is in the dead center meaning they are not using a standard high school ish type setup. 2nd would be on the right of lead in these kinds of setups
The girl on Flugelhorn plays divinely! Top!
She really is. Cool person and a great teacher too. Incredible player.
@@austinjeffris38 Very versatile, too. I've seen a few of these clips now, and on some she doubles on the first trumpet part, although she doesn't have William's extreme range. I believe she's now teaching full time as the music director at a high school out in WA.
@@mikeprevost8650 She has succeeded Scott Brown at Roosevelt HS, which is one of the best high school jazz programs in the country.
What a beautiful tone on the Flugelhorn, amazing!
The light vibrato is awesome. Actually, her trumpet tone is equally as good.
I am again blown away by this band!! Keep up the great work!! You guys sound like pros!!
Man this band is tight!
This is fabulous, lovely playing and well done Hannah, Nick and Lucas, great solos.
Thad and Mel would be flabbergasted!!!!

1....profesionales.....ok
was that a bass clarinet lol.
In the original score, it is marked that the woodwinds should switch to other instruments, like the bass clarinet, at some point
They play great but I get tickled at music director Chris directing skills like he having spasms
this band is only as notable as it is today because of Chris
Get that leader out of the picture he’s never on top of the accents & rhythm looks like he’s having spasms
I know, right? He should just give the downbeat at the start and let the rhythm section take the wheel. These kids don't need a conductor.
This is typical though of college bands. I can't think of any college band that isn't directed, which is weird cause once you go into the pro world very few bands are directed. Buddy directed his band through the drums! If you've got a solid rhythm section you shouldn't need a conductor. These kids play well enough they don't need the help lol
