Loved this movie saw it when I was 10 years old. My dad took me to see it. The score by John Barry is awesome and just one of those movies you never forget.

Really? My dad took me when I was 7.. I was so bored at the theater. The movie was too political and not enough screen time with the ranger .. in my opinion 🙏

I was 7 when my dad took me to see it. I remember getting all of the action figures from Santa Claus that Christmas. Wished I still had them.

I never knew about all of the problems they had with this production. It’s an interesting read and I was shocked that they had dubbed actor Klinton Spilsbury in his one and only movie.

Little known fact: Comedian Freddy Lewis was distraught from not getting the role of Tonto. He boycotted anything about The Lone Ranger for years! xoxo The Clarences

You can say one thing about the Johnny Depp version: it made this film look good. At least the character of Tonto was played by a true native American, Michael Horse. And the producers rubbed in what they did to Clayton Moore by giving an extended cameo to the OTHER Lone Ranger, John Hart. Still, Jason Robards was cool as President Grant, Christopher Lloyd didn't go THAT far over the top as I remember, and the climax was still pretty good. And, as ever, the William Tell Overture.
And now, a generation after the producers royally screwed Clayton Moore, we can accept it for what it is: a fair to middling origin story that didn't have to turn its villain into a Wendigo (seriously, what the heck was THAT all about?). Oh, and that Merle Haggard ballad. It's not great, the rhymes are kinda ridiculous, but I would STILL like the whole thing on a soundtrack album - the one that was released just included some of the bits and pieces as they were heard during the film, and it didn't include all of them anyway. And Haggard never included it in any of his own records.
But this trailer was still the best thing about the movie, then and now. RIP Fred Foy - you are dearly missed.

This movie received disastrous reviews when it came out and abysmal box-office returns.
It’s also known for its controversy about not allowing previous Lone Ranger actor Clayton Moore to wear the character's mask when making public appearances, and created further bad publicity when it became known that the voice of leading man Klinton Spilsbury's character was dubbed by another actor, James Keach. This is the only film he ever appeared in.
Speaking of Spilsbury, he took home 2 Razzies for its efforts: Worst Actor and Worst New Star. And the film also won Worst Musical Score.

This movie won a Razzie for worst musical score? That is such bullshit.

Even as a little kid i always wondered if they shot the film with the camera in a sauna! The muted, misty film quality might have been deliberate, but it makes the film look it should be a steamy romance!

The Gore Verbinsky's nonsense did a great favor to this movie ; it made it GOOD in comparisson! At least this "Lone Ranger" was made in the spirit of The old pulps más serials, like Raiders of The Lost Ark, both released the same year, 1981

I heard about this movie being a mess but Disney made a much bigger mess with Hammer and Depp version. also, having the lone ranger dressed in black was the worst idea ever.
it a shame that this movie with a ton of potential got relegated to being a B-movie. it could have giving new life to the character but producers bungled it. the 2013 version looks like they got lazy with the source material. Tanto looks like he could have been an Indian descendent of Jack Sparrow. The Lone Ranger in black isn't The Lone Ranger.
