My grandmother took me to see this movie in the theater. I would have been 14 at the time. I was very into it, but apparently she was not. As I recall there is a pretty long build up after Andromeda is chained to the rock and we are waiting for the Kraken to show up to devour her, and Perseus to try to fight it off. At that point, grandma let out a big yawn and said out loud "this Kraken better get crackin'." I still laugh out loud when I think of it. R.I.P. grandma.

It's a shame there aren't many films based on Greek mythology. This is definitely one of the better ones. Also the 1997 Hallmark Hall of Fame film version of The Odyssey was really good as well.

A timeless clllassic and I saw this when I was 12 years old and loved the story the action and the gorgon Medusa she was scary and one look into her eyes would turn any living creature into stone. I was scared to look at her eyes. Medusa will always scare me!
One masterpiece that will never die!

    Turns 40 today!
Feels like a throwback to the Ray Harryhausen stop motion flicks of the 50s
Made its budget back and was one of the highest grossing films of 1981
It's a silly swords and sandals epic but decent adaptation of Greek mythology
Bubo the mechanical owl is one of my favorite things in it
The main lead Harry Hamlin actually fell in love with Ursula andress on set
They had a son too but parted ways after 3 years
This was also Ray Harryhausens last film his worked on
Real ancient ruins in Italy did make the movie feel authentic
For many it also introduced people to Greek myths

Me too. After watching this I got a Greek Mythology book at the 2nd grade book fair and memorized all the different Gods, Goddesses, Titans, Gorgons, and other assorted mythical creatures. I didn't get to see it in the theater in '81 but I believe it was released onto HBO in '82 where it went into heavy rotation. I must have watched it every time it came on. Even though 2 Star Wars films were already out when this came around, I was still amazed by the Ray Harryhausen stop-motion special effects, dated as they were. I remember the blind witches, the Ferryman on the River Styx, Calibos, and especially Medusa being pretty intense for a 7 year old. It might just be nostalgia kicking in but I still think it's a great film along with pretty much every other Ray Harryhausen flick I grew up watching.

Oh my goodness like seriously I truly do remember watching this as a young kid/teenager back in 1981. I believe that's when this first came out. I could be wrong so don't quote me on it. If I'm wrong then I do apologize 100% big time I do. Anyway the main two favorite movies I enjoyed and I loved watching as a young kid/teenager back then is the 1981 the original Clash of the Titans & the 1963 Jason and the Argonauts movie. Now we're in 2017 + I am 43 years old today. Just saying anyway I still love and enjoy watching these two movies they're like my favorite. The Originals of Jason and the Argonauts & the old original Clash of the Titans. Till this day these two movies are fantastic amazingly and wonderful. I so truly wish they still made movies like this to this day. Anyway I have both of these movies on Blu-ray disc and let me tell you Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts are 50 x much better on Blu-ray disc than DVD wow are they ever. On Blu-ray disc much better color much brighter and much clearer plus it's a lot louder as well on Blu-ray disc then DVD. I tell you what though they don't make movies like this today the way they did back in those days the movies that they made like this back then was out of this world. A lot of these creature & monster movies today are nothing like it was back then in 1963 and 1981. Also I got to say as well too.the old black-and-white Creature from the Black Lagoon is another fantastic movie. Plus it's another one of my favorite all times as well. Today I'm very disappointed in a lot of the movies. the reason why it's because today Hollywood wants to keep remaking or rebooting movies. Not cool at all. I know what Hollywood wants to do they're trying to get the younger kids and teenagers into these movies which I have no problem with that. If this is the case and I think what they should do is take these old movies like Clash of the Titans from 1981 and Jason and the Argonauts from 1963 and put them back out to the movie theaters as I anniversary edition or something. In what the younger generation today see the type of cool stuff they did back in those days it's not like today.

🙋 hello there to all that's on RUclips. Anyway I love and I enjoy watching this old clash of the Titan movie, this movie is just fine The Way It is by itself and I don't know why they had to go and reboot it.which they should have done was a second part to this 1981 clash of the Titan movie, nope instead they had to reboot it. Don't they know the original movies are the best there is and the best there was and the best there will ever be. You cannot replace original movies with reboots or remakes at all. It's just my opinion. A Part 2 or a sequel to this one would have been fine just maybe, if it was done right.

Even though Laurence Olivier is one of my favorite actors, I will have to pass on seeing, "Clash of the Titans" (1981). It looks corney to me. Here are the 10 best films I have seen thus far, staring Olivier:
    10. "Khartoum" (1966)
    9. "Boys From Brazil" (1978)
    8. "Richard III" (1955)
    7. "Rebecca" (1940)
    6. "Three Sisters" (1970)
    5. "Marathon Man" (1976)
    4. "Carrie" (1952)
    3. "Othello" (1965)
    2. "Spartacus" (1960)
    1. "Wuthering Heights" (1939)
Honorable mentions are "Fire Over England" (1937), "That Hamilton Woman" (1941), and "Dracula" (1979).

They should remake this with a female hero and lots of CGI and lose hundreds of millions of dollars. I LOVE Harryhausen animation.
