  • On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost-on Armstrong and on the nation-of one of the most dangerous missions in history.
Written by Academy Award® winner Josh Singer (Spotlight), the drama is produced by Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars) through their Temple Hill Entertainment banner, alongside Chazelle and Gosling. Isaac Klausner (The Fault in Our Stars) executive produces. DreamWorks Pictures co-finances the film.

Its a shame we live in a world where a movie like this isn't appreciated much. Very few moments in cinema have made my tear up like the liftoff and landing scene in this movie. Its the perfect marriage of visuals and music. Hands down the greatest space movie ever made. Damien chazelle did a beautiful job at showing the scale of it all. 5 years after watching it in imax i recently re-watched on a smaller screen and the impact of this movie is almost the same

I think it's as Buzz Aldren said. The film was beautifully made, but lacked the joy and inspiration that the pilots, engineers, and scientists celebrated throughout the entire process. It was melancholy to an extent, forgetting about why these men put themselves in space to begin with.

This might be one of the greatest films I have ever seen. I was in tears at some points, because it is TRUE. Neil Armstrong managed to escape death over and over and over, the chance of success was comical. Space exploration will save humanity thousands of years from now, and I believe that is is so challenging that it will require us to unite as a species and pool all our resources. It all started here. Thank you to every Astronaut who risks their lives for that belief

This is a terrible portrayal of Neil Armstrong. The whole unemotional stone faces persona is so wrong. He come's off as a bad friend, bad husband, and terrible father. I was ten in 1960 and watched and read all I could get about the X-Plane protects. I grew up around air bases. My dad had flown hellcats off of aircraft carriers in World War II and I was born about the time he got recalled into the Navy to fly the Douglas Skyraider during the Korean conflict. And at age 16 I found a book produced by NASA at my public library called " project Apollo" that detailed just how we were going to get to the moon step by step by the end of the sixties. I do not understand why this movie is such an unconscionable rewrite of History.

You know what is simultaneously hilarious and tragic, that so many people moan that this film is anti american because it doesnt include the flag planting scene, but the thing is, this film IS NOT ABOUT the moon landing, IT IS NOT ABOUT THE EVENT, it is about Neil Armstrong, and to armstrong placing down the flag wasnt important, to him the important moment was ( and i dont know if this was fictional or not) him tossing his daughters bracelet down onto the lunar surface. the flag planting was not relevant, alot of the BTS of the mission was mostly irrelevant, this is Armstrongs story, not Americas. USA needs to chill and not shove its obese ego into everything, taking everything as an insult or compliment to itself. this film isnt for or against patriotism, this film is about the FIRST MAN that went on the moon, not the FIRST MISSION.

My heart breaks when I read the reviews for this movie on IMDB and other places. A movie about Mr. Neil Armstrong was always going to be hard but this film does him justice. Whilst I do feel very much for the movie patrons who were expecting something other than what this is, yes you would feel duped and I understand that. But in life you should have more than one gear - just sayin. This is closer to 2001 - A Space Odyssey rather than Apollo 13. To be in the shoes of the people surrounded by extremes in both expectation and fallible technology, they overcame insurmountable odds to achieve something that has been dreamt about since we could first look up at the night sky - so basically forever. This is a film of the sacrifices made by the men, women and citizens of a nation who were responsible for getting all of us there. If you cannot or do not think you can be a witness to the majesty that underlies these events then please go and watch something else. FYI - I am not American but am capable of giving credit where it is due. Thanks for reading this far btw.

    • @venomq2409
      @venomq2409 4 года назад +2

@@noelleewen2946 Yes I have and as Carl Sagan said "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". Even the least rational person would have to agree that this an extension of "Ordinary claims require ordinary evidence". In what way(s) was the demeanor of Armstrong's character in the movie portrayed incorrectly in relation to how Armstrong carried himself in an interview IRL? Now I will allow some creative licence to Hollywood, after all they did make a movie and not a documentary. Perhaps the subtext of what was being conveyed by the character was lost on you? Hollywood has historically done this poorly when they have explicitly required actors to portray real life individuals down to the core with no room for interpretation - comes off as fake. Can you really tell from how someone interviews in front of a national audience (at times) and extrapolate from those brief moments how they are with their family or when confronted with the loss of a loved one or friend? I am not sure if I can. So when I am presented with a dramatisation of how that may have been I am somewhat receptive of that - this is the wrong vehicle to be looking for exacting re-creations. FYI I would recommend that you watch Todd Douglas Miller's new Apollo 11 film that is due out later this year. Archival footage is used and looks to be quiet fantastic in relation to the restoration work done on the original film stock.

What the hell are you all complaining about ? Please go and compare the suit from the first Iron Man movie to the washed out crap they present in Infinity War. The VFX in First Man made it so immersive and in most scenes you couldnt even recognize them. It really serves the purpose of Storytelling whereas Infinity War is Marvels playground for all the CGI companies they could afford and mixing their work together. Yeah, Infinity War was a great MCU Film and it was enjoyable but dont compare these PS4 like particle effects to the photorealistic scenes in First Man.

I know theres more to the discussion like wether its possible to do it better because its fantasy and powers that dont exist. But if we stick to Avengers as an example: it simply doesnt look like something a real camera would catch. Again, watch the first Iron Man movie. In the fight scenes in the desert it looks so believable (i guess because they filmed with a real reference suit on set). Nowadays its just RDJ in a jumpsuit and they slap the cheap looking textures on him. The VFX just cant fool my eyes to make me believe that there`s real metal shapes which reflect the environment and surroundings. Again back then when i saw First Man they even mixed real footage with their models and in most scenes it was hard to spot the difference.

No doubt the suit in the iron man looks so photo realistic because they actually made that suit and enhanced it with practical effects and some Vfx. Nowadays they just hire vfx companies to reduce the hassle and vfx companies are not given enough time to perfect the lighting with the environment. War of the planet of the apes was a stunning CGI achievement because they took time to perfect the shots, those apes looks more photorealistic than the actual humans in the movies. And coming to the black panther's train fight scene, holy fuck, i haven't seen so crappy looking scene in a long time. Even computer games looks more photorealistic than that scene.

    1) Neil keeping the Karen's bracelet with him. We all do the same, we keep things of our loved ones as a memory with us.
    2) He never talk about Karen to anyone which shows their was a certain feeling of guilt, cz he was unable to save her, the feeling of love, the feeling of missing her, he knows no one can understand his what he feels, so he just remains silent. And we know that feeling.
    3) In one scene he saw her daughter playing, in another scene the discussion about the swing, and he always remember playing with Karen's hair. All of this is so true.
And finally he left her bracelet on the moon, it's gonna be there forever, her little angel will live there forever.❤

Der Film hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Der Sound war sehr gut. Sehr realistisch.
    Mondlandschaft zeigt.

Apollo 11 mission with the first man on the moon was, at least in my opinion, the most important moment in the history of mankind. I can only hope that the makers of this movie threat this event with the same respect. Let's hope :)

Apollo 8 was almost more impressive for the time it flew.

Watching this again after finishing my master about hypersonic flight regime, feels so good. Testing the X-15 so ahead of time, still amaze me big time!

This movie deserves the win, it's not just cgi, they mixed practical effects, miniatures and the real video taken during the apollo missions, look at any just cgi movie they age like milk. This will always have the realness and believability everytime you watch it, just like PJ lotr trilogy and, yes aged but ahead of its time original star wars trilogy. And to name a dozen others, when watching this movie I felt like I was there. Infinity wars visuals were good but it felt like a very high production cgi cutscene from a game. Hell halo wars 2 cutscenes are just as good along with halo 2 remastered.

Movie is so good. But I felt that when it comes to scenes from space, apollo13 movie felt much realistic coz they actually shot that space scenes on zero gravity.

It saddens me that so many people actually believe the whole thing was a hoax, and when their theories are debunked they simply don't accept the proof that is given.
