Yeah, but the bugs back then could fly more commonly, and the path of pain was meant to be a vault to hide a secret. Also, the traps were likely activated right before pale king died, so it typically was safer.
Memes are fun, but I've also heard a theory that this is only part of the Dream.
@@CyanicCore it very much is just a Dream thing. The saws have no explanation and why would they have been there in the real world in the first place(plus there are rooms like the King's workshop whose position is clearly magical since it's connects to the same room from impossible positions). In the non Path of Pain part they are probably there to protect the actual king, whilst the Path of Pain is just the Hollow Knight's dream, the part to protect its most inner secret (even the binding seal is there in the final room): its presence of will and feelings

Yeah it actually pissed me off. I couldn’t play on controller well so when I was doing a ps4 run through of the game I died at the very end of PoP except I killed both of them but died to the attack BOOMERANGING BACK TO ITS DEAD MASTER. The agony in my soul that day

You know the music is so dull and loopy at the start because it's supposed to ramp up the further you progress.
That's true, and I did figure it would build up over time. It was a very nice piece ultimately.
Only issue was having to spend an hour and a half listening to the "incomplete" version while failing horribly. Got a bit irritating.

Funny, this is popping up in my feed the day after I decided to complete path of pain... you also went through the same stages of grief as I did. Difference was I panicked in the last room and died to those two goons in the last room.. atleast it was easier the second time round... ha.

The thing about path of pain is that while it feels pointless, it actually does improve your combat skills, because it makes you learn how to move around, and how to manage repeated Pogos.
By thr time you got to the path of pain you have already mastered the game.

To get to the white place you need 1800 essence, so if you only had 20 hours of experience in the game and without tutorials, you will not be able to defeat all dream warriors, get all the dream trees and defeat at least one of the dream bosses, and then get to the ancient basin then the white palace then defeat the second hardest challenge in the game, only with 20 hours of experience.
Maybe you didn't finish the path of pain, maybe you finished the normal white palace
Maybe this is on your second playthrough.
There is not a chance that you did it, and what's funny is that you can't even get proof you did...
@@hmmmmmm6567 nope. i have a screenshot of my beating the path of pain (getting the pale king cutscene) at under 25 hours of game time. i did use a guide to get the awoken dream nail quickly though. i beat failed champion, lost kin, markoth and a few others and got to 1800.

I spent about 1 hour learning the very start, like just the ascending, 1 hour for most of everything else, and 4 hours on the last room alone
am I the only one who managed to no hit the guards at the end out of sheer panic
Scientifically speaking the white palace cannot physically exist because of the weight of the saw blades which would cause the floor to collapse

Oh yes it was pretty challenging with the Lower FPS and Input delays but I still think the path of pain was my Favorit section of the Game (I Love difficult Plattforming challenges If the movement is fair)
I play on switch but I’ve never had too much of a problem with it. I haven’t beaten path of pain because I suck, but I’ve gotten through 107% of the game and two endings with it, so I think I haven’t had a problem?
I managed to do it with the keyboard... it was hell.
As a switch player, it gives me c/hope.
Did path of pain 3 times on switch, once on my regular playthrough, once on steelsoul and once for my little brother and it's, like, not that bad at all? Tbf I've never played Hollow Knight on PC because my PC sucks ass so I really have no point of reference there but besides the occasional fairly rare frame hitches it's fine. Also having a pro controller helps a lot. The Joycons are so fucking weird
It's still a really difficult challenge. Especially if you suck at platforming (like I do lmaO) but it's by no means anywhere close to bad on Switch

Funnily enough, I was aware of the possibility of getting annoyed at little things like the music. But, when I thought about it, I really liked the music and couldn't get mad at it. In fact, it was calming to listen to the great music as I regened my health. Granted, it wasn't as difficult for me as it was for others, but I still died a few times towards the very end section.

I did this too a long time ago, and funnily enough I also did it on Switch. I completed it in like 2 or 3 hours I think but only because I watched videos about it first and had a rough idea of what to expect. Didn't make it any less hard, though.
I was, I kid you not, TWO DAYS only on that last corridor. I left my computer on all night just so i wouldn't have to do the rest of the thing.

I spent a good 1 week going through path of pain on a old laptop that hungs midway. I have a 9 to 7 job, with about 4hrs each day to complete it. Ive reached the end a total of 4 times and only once succeeded.
Would i say it was a suffering? No, it was enjoyable despite some anger i felt, the only thing that enrages me the most was the final sprint towards the end due to a collection of hanging from my computer, me failing my timing, and getting increasingly annoyed because i have no time left before sleep.
I’m on the last room and can’t get past it.
If it makes you feel any better, it took me over 2 and a half hours alone just to beat that last room.

I love how even though I've completed the Path of Pain I still look at it as just as impossible as before I did it. It took me two days Saturday and Sunday playing in 3 hour sessions to complete it. My pogoing sucked before I started it bit after finishing it I was able to utilize pogos pretty flawlessly for what little bit of the game and DLC 's I had left. If I were to do it again I have no doubt it would take just as long and be just as frustrating as the first time. I dont feel like its something to be mastered but instead always just something you endure.

Just had myself a nice laugh at 1:30am because, while I'm not yet at the PoP, this (but worse) will be me. For context, I died about 40 times in Soul Sanctum, 30 just getting to the boss and at least 10 to the boss.

It's really not as hard as people make out, but then, I've played Celeste, which is basically this for a whole game.
Honestly path of pain isn’t that bad until the section before the knights. That last section was so challenging
I was in pop for 5-6 hours and in the last part when I had a power outage. I was never as mad as beack then while playing a game.
Also I never tried pop after that again.

I had the worst time imaginable trying to complete this the first time. I am not mechanically gifted and my reaction times are piss. I died to the two guards at the end, gave up, came back a day later and completed it.
Then on another runthrough I redid the whole thing. For fun.
Funny enough, only the beginning was hard, after that it was pretty easy

With how many times I had to redo path of pain, I developed a muscle memory to the point I can beat it first or second try.

Irritating is the music of the video, the path of pain theme is gorgeous
you're gonna hate me for saying this but the switch port of HK is infamously not great with the response time of the controller. Replaying POP on PC was insanely easier for me just cuz it felt like I could actually control the knight how I wanted. I think the beefy console ports are also better than switch but I never played them so I wouldn't be able to say for sure.
Not surprising, really. Switch ports are always going to lag behind other consoles, and especially PC. It's interesting, because I didn't really notice any frame rate problems until the Path.
Honestly, I just wanted to round out my Switch roster, so, ultimately still worth it.
Mine doesn't drop frames... BUT IT HAS RANDOMLY CRASHED ON ME IN GODHOME!

whenever someone complains about the music here I realise they do not understand the narrative point of this area at all
My experience with Path of Pain maybe was not frustrating in the way it was for you, but I will say that I completely died two times on the Path of Pain before completing it, and when I mean completely die I mean the type of death that sends you back to the last bench you sat on. At the very beginning.

Yeah, I got ALL they way through the Path of Pain, only to die at the fucking Knights at the end. No, it didn't send me back to the platform, it sent me back TO THE FUCKING BENCH AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CASTLE!!! The only reason I don't have a TV with a controller sized hole through the middle of it is soley due to the fact that it was my second time completing it. I already completed it on one playthrough. It's still a MASSIVE kick in the nuts, though. Two hours of my life went up in smoke

It took me 20 hours to beat path of pain because my Nintendo was broken so I could not pogo I still won
I don’t know if anyone knows the charms you should have for this so I'll just list them. Deepfocus, Hiveblood, Grubsong are the ones I used. You regain Soul when you get hit then you heal.
Never had the balls to try this. I just feel like it wouldn't be worth it
It’s not about the reward. The reason I did Path of Pain is because this was the first platforming game I had ever played, and I love testing my skills against something new. The first time I finished PoP it took me around 3 hours, but doing it the first time is always the most difficult. The second time was in 15 minutes. And now I can do it constantly finish it in 5.
Unless someone reeeeaaallllyyyyy likes lore, no one does PoP for any reward. It’s to test your skills and overcome a seemingly impossible challenge.
There are a lot of people who think that anyone that likes challenges like this are masochists. But the way I see it, I’m taking this challenge that thinks it’s all that and beating it into submission, showing the challenge that I’m the boss. That might be a bit too edgy though. Regardless that’s the way I view challenges like this, and honestly, I hope SilkSong has an equally difficult challenge as Path of Pain somewhere hidden in its depths.
