That’s smart! A responsible child will know never to drive without a license except in an emergency. And it’s those emergency moments when you want competent people around you, even if it’s a child.
My mom always raised me to be aware of my surroundings and situations and how to handle certain emergencies.
I don’t drive. I have my license and grew up riding in a car. When I have children, I’ll have to remember to teach them the basics of operating a car. Maybe not necessarily teach them how to drive but certainly at least know where the gas and break pedals are, hazard lights, how to put a car in drive, park, etc. I live in NYC now where not everyone drives and I can’t imagine being a city kid and never really being exposed to cars. Yikes.

      "Patricia Nichols"
My twin brother has always been afraid to drive. He always feared crashing. No way to teach him at age 10. Our dad was no help. He instilled it in my brother. Our dad used to tell us that cars are dangerous to drive and that he himself had a car when he was a young man in the 1920s and it was a jalopy but he very soon gave it up because he felt that the highways were too dangerous. So our dad told us never to drive a car.
I went ahead and learned at age 25. My sister went ahead and learned maybe in her early 40s and she attempted to teach our brother to drive and paid a driving instructor to teach him but he kept panicking and freaking out at the wheel just by trying to start the car and driving a few blocks and the driving instructor had to give up.

@@pulpuspounder6011 …Well, if you want me to be more precise, he prevented harm. In the very least, he prevented the bus from hitting the curb. I know the bus wasn’t going that fast, but even a slow, rolling bus can ram into the edge of the curb and caused a fender bender. He helped to prevent that, so please do not underestimate your classmate/peer. He may have not resuscitated anyone, but he helped the driver get to the emergency room in a timely manner, whereby saving her life. Honestly, you’re not fully grasping the entire impact of each part of the situation. It’s not just about the bus rolling. It’s about the driver having a medical emergency, and children and teenagers sitting in seats that do not have seatbelts. I’m glad the bus was rolling slowly, but had the bus hit the curb, it could’ve provided enough force to throw some smaller kids forward.

You know what? Let the boy be cocky about it. He saved 60+ lives. There should be a balance between being humble and acknowledging that you did something incredible. I think he found it, he's very well-spoken, some kids just are. Come back when he's actually cocky, in the meantime: let's just celebrate this young men's courageous actions.

I hate that we're forced to act "humble" by not being openly proud of ourselves when we do something great instead of just being taught the difference between being proud and being boastful. I hope the world allows him to stay this way ❤
