Man this fight is still my favorite in the whole game. The excellent pacing throughout, the teamwork to get up to the fight, the initial defeat and finding of the Lance, the MC first transformation, and, of course, Wildfire, was all so impeccable. The other big boss fights are all good, and arguably better in term of gameplay, but this one was such pure mastery of timing and direction, it's really hard to beat.
The fact that it was in the first major arc means we also get to see a lot of newbies' reactions to it, too, which is wonderful
tbh I would easily say Penacony is greater in everything except the lance, and only because the lance unlock came with emotional build up music and the (male) MC having a goated scream and the lance having better animations than HMC. While near perfect the first time around, Penacony definitely shows that Belobog would have been better if we had spent more time with Seele/Bronya and the side characters
@@darknessknows1235I think this boss' gameplay was better although it may have been down to it being earlier in the game so it'd present more of a challenge.
Additionally, the boss fight in penacony had good music and flavour but it really lacked significant challenge especially phase 3. Phase 3 is excellent thematically but gameplay wise it's a lot of nothing. The amount of shield and the lack of action by the boss just trivialised the phase, because a lot of the times, you weren't ever really in danger. At least for me, it undermined abit of the emotions but I think the music from Robin helped carry it.
The weapon as you've mentioned was another thing. It really did feel like there could've been more hype built around getting the new trailblazer. HMC is amazing nonetheless. Slightest of pet peeves, I really would've liked if the hat in the skill kinda ricocheted between all the targets hit, I feel like that would've been much cooler than the raining coins. But it's just something I felt would've been cool. It's not even a real issue.
@@darknessknows1235 Yea, I thought the Penacony fight was excellent aesthetically. While the song doesn't quite hold up to Wildfire, the boss looks extremely cool, the reference to The Creation of Adam is a very cool imagery (even though I don't quite see how it makes sense thematically, but I don't know anything about art history), and the train is SO fucking sick. It's also very interesting on the gameplay front, although it could've been a bit more challenging overall.
Where I'll disagree with you though is that I sorta feel the opposite about the characters. I thought the Cocolia/Bronya duo was a lot more fleshed out than the Sunday/Robin duo. Bronya had a whole crisis of faith, as she sees more and more of the underground city, and slowly realizing a painful truth: that in order to save her people, she MUST go against Cocolia, her mom. The conflict there is palpable and interesting. Cocolia's motivation as a character was well-defined, and you could see why she had to do what she did.
Sunday and Robin, on the other hand, didn't get nearly enough screen time. For a duo so defined by their faith and the Aeon they follow, this never really got any real exploration. You never get to see any sort of crisis of faith for either of them. Sunday's flashback about the bird cage and the confession booth (something they felt important enough that they showed it to us TWICE) was not very compelling. Their actions never seem like it had any real effect on Penacony that you can really see. Which is a shame because these two should be the main characters of this arc, but a lot of that time was dedicated to Aventurine and Firefly (who are good characters, but they should have had their own separate story episodes). In the end, I felt like Misha got the best reveal in the bunch, but he wasn't really a major player in this at all.
idk, I yapped too much about this. It's been my hyper-fixation as of late. I still really like the Penacony fight, even if I have a lot of issues with stuff leading up to it.

@@somedude15231 It doesn't make sense for Robin/Sunday to have a crisis of faith like Bronya because both of them are set in their ideals of two separate philosophical ways of thinking. The story actually heavily shows their character a lot strongly than Bronya's characterization, let alone Cocolia, but it's all subtle as a result of their not needing to be an obvious and (lets be honest, average) development in a goal/priority. It's also fairly wrong to say they've had no effects by themselves, lets put aside everything about the climax where both sides affect not even one city, but the wider universe, but they show you that both siblings aren't just all talk but actively practice their ideals(and in Sunday's case, constantly make heavy decisions).
Likewise, every character in penacony adds something to the overall philosophical debates in their backstories similar to the underworlders if they had more character besides "we're being locked away to die here but we'd rather rebel", and they didn't even get the freedom fighter/rebel traits they slapped into wildfire correctly so it feels more tacked on rather than a correct observation as how they work.

Yeah, I remember doing it with a Belobog + Stelle team. I think I had Hook, Gepard, and Serval. I started playing around 1.1.0, and we still didn't have Lianzhou released.

We still have a living Cocolia over at _Honkai Impact 3rd_ , although she isn't playable either. She's alive and repentant, at least. We also have a living Himeko, in the Captainverse, although she's a bit less Mommy than the main one was, being younger. She's actually closer to _HSR_ Himeko. And Bronya and Seele will always be together, no matter the universe.
Although this battle wasn't especially hard, it must've been significantly easier with Ratio and Aventurine.
The only song in the game so powerful, even Robin can't stop it.

I wouldn't be - now. If I hadn't had time to realize how carefully the story fight is rigged in the player's favor, though... (and if I focused enough on the turn-limited portion of the game to care much about being crowd controlled, of course).

3 sustain team does seem pretty optimal for new players in the early game story. no moc cycles or infinite stacking SU dmg% to worry about.
One part of me thinks this is smart since early game you need all the survivability you can get
Then there’s the other part of me that thinks it’s such a shame they never truly felt the full rush of cocolia’s first meteor almost wiping your entire party

1. Misha reveal was so obvious in v2.0
2. Firely being sam and her fakeness was incredibly obvious but we didnt care since shes hot but the writer pretended and reveal it like nobody could tell lol
3. Sigonians were getting shame on but Aventurine's planet is literally one of the poorest and the most barren planet in the arcada star system. So, huh? Even the IPC enslaved the ppl from over there including Aventurine. And dr.ratio, the intelligence guy was out here saying Aventurine used to live in a spoiled life. Bro did no research uncharacteristically when dealing with another ipc executive to feed cheap sympathy to the players for aventurine.
4. More than half of the playables in penacony did nothing in the charmony festival despite the whole build up for 84+ days. The festival wasnt even that special;
Welt, himeko, dan, boothil (plothole with the galaxy rangers summon), argenti, topaz, Sparkle especially, and so on didnt do anything.
5. Duke inferno squad got off-screen too early. We dont even know who they were lol. This is a bad writing style and a waste of good character designs. Whats even the point of v1.6? The writer never builds any character up properly before killing them which was the case with fake-deathing firefly and robin.
6. The theme of characters faking death when you cant die in penacony, including Aventurine in v2.1, was a complete waste of time. V.2.0 stated clearly that no one can die even before our arrival.
7. The dialogues are so corny and pretentious that I cant take it seriously when they spent so much time acting melodramatic and edgy over everything unrelated to penacony 90% of the time as we move from point A to point B and so on, into characters referencing things and made up words that are not even in the game or the previous stories.
8. The writer invented 70+ made up terms in v2.0-v2.2 and explained none of them lol.
9. "We have to wake up someday" but the dreamscape is still here? You're telling me the watchmaker died and the dreamscapes werent destroyed? Its one of those bad voice lines that was just actually all talk and I ran out of ways to make it sounds intelligent so it ended up sounding very chessy and we moved on pretend like nothing happened.
10. Since this is already long, the amount of plot holes and loose ends here is crazy but I will point out just one. If they wanted the Ena of order to have full control in penacony, why did the family wanted to invite inferno duke and the nameless to the charmony festival? It wouldve been easy if they invited ppl that wouldnt interfere with Sunday's plan but instead they invited the most chaotic ppl, and theres a plothole of how anybody in penacony couldve invited a galaxy ranger if common sense stated that theyve gone extinct in their lore. If it was the watchmaker, on whose authority did he used when misha has no memory of being mylegdontwork?
Overall its so messy. Even the writer forgot to build robin up as a plot device to use against Sunday at the end, their relationship werent really well explained apart from brother being obsessed with Robin for some reason coz "family me protecc" logic.
