Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed watching!💛 Those marker portraits didn't go exactly as planned, but that's just how it goes in art sometimes 😅 Have a wonderful week, and put aside some time for art-making if you can! Much Love! -Emily
I was so surprised when I heard you talk about your scoliosis! I have scoliosis and have to wear a brace too. It's so awesome to know I'm not alone in this! You're my favourite artist ever and I'm so glad you addressed it.
Thank you so much Rick. This comment made my day! Thanks again for watching and for leaving such a lovely comment. Wishing you all the best in your art journey! 💛
royal talens sketchbook 4.7" x 4.7" is a sketchbook I always recommend. It takes in wet and dry mediums very well and the size is great for on the go sketching.
Congrats on the workspace upgrade✨ It makes a world of difference having a space and equipment that are more functional and more accommodating to your work and needs! Loving the portraits, and the pencils on Shelley are SO GORGEOUS
If you're thinking of giving marker paper a try use Cresecnt Rendr! It's still textured so you don't get that gross streaks you usually get with marker paper and it's entire gimmick is it won't bleed through I absolutely love it
Ah thank you so much for the suggestion! Definitely adding that to my list of things to try. I'm glad you mentioned that it has texture, I always hated the super smooth marker paper 😅
I’d love to see a tutorial on colored pencil portraits and hear more about your process along the way! I’ve just recently started following your channel and these videos have been so enjoyable while at the same time informational about artistic practices. They inspired me to take up sketching again and to not think it’s “cheating” if I have to look at references 💚
I find your work incredibly inspiring, and I seriously admire your dedication to improve but still find joy in artmaking. I work in design and have been burnt out for the last few years, so I've basically not drawn or painted for myself at all in that time. I'll definitely be looking at your work for inspiration next time I pick up a pencil ❤
Such a nice vlog! And hi from a fellow scoliosis person :) I didn't have surgery and it's pretty manageable, but I have to be super careful when painting, about my posture and changing it up, and going to physio when it gets bad. That desk looks amazing, I might have to get one in the future! Your colored pencil portrait looks amazing, I'd love to learn more about how you combine the different color pencil brands, too, and which ones are better or worse at specific things, maybe...? And I'm excited to see your next movie studies!
loved this video so much!! your videos are always so relaxing!! I love the way you draw and lay down color it's fascinating!!! can't wait for your next video!!
Ahh thank you so much Maren!! 💕💕 I was just showing your stickers off to my partner! :') I can't wait to start my next sketchbook so I can use them haha
Yay for your new desk, I hope it helps you! First time commenting but I just love your content Emily. Thank you for another great video! So inspiring and also cozy. I'd love to see how you use colored pencils for portraits as well!
Wow, new videooo! I just met your channel this last week and loved! Already binged the videos on this channel while drawing! Tnx for the content you provide us!
Thank you! Besides how enjoyable watching your work come alive on the page is, after hearing you talk about the royal talens sketchbook here, and watching this and your other marker portraits video, i ordered my own royal talens book. My technique might not be as refined as yours, but the mixture of colerase sketch with lots of marker colors and layers and some more CP for detail is similar, so thanks for helping me find my new fave sketchbook for markers!
I have scoliosis too and while it’s not bad enough to need treatment, I have also noticed that sitting just a couple of hours at my desk really stiffens me and kinda hurts, but if I’m really focused on something I don’t really notice and time flies, y’know?
Aways such a pleasure to watch you work and I hope the new computer makes life way easier for you. I have fibromyalgia and chronic pain is miserable but that table looks like the answer to stopping oneself being hunched up in a bad position for way too long.
Thank you so much Liza! I'm sorry to hear about your fibromyalgia. Chronic pain is no joke! Ice packs and heating pads are staples in my chronic pain arsenal 😅 but this desk has done wonders for staying aware of my body position and when I should move to prevent stiffness. Although, it did take my pup a while to get used to the "magic moving desk" 😂
@emhuesart art is my escape from it and in a way the pain has been a reason to get back into it and focus properly on it, so a door opened up for me and it's taken me in a direction I'm loving Yes to ice packs and heat. And listening to my body.
Amazing video and art as always, Em! Your drawings just get better and better! I love your new desk set-up too! And I'm so happy for you that you now have a brand new computer 🥰💕🎉
Ok thiird comment 😂. I would also love to see a colored pencil portrait. Im a bit lazy or not lazy but impatient i suppose is a better word, for colored pencils, because i always try to rush through. Part of that is because i have small children and i know i only have so much time at once but i would love any tips and tricks. I love fun and chunky texture and not worried at all about it being perfectly blended ❤
Hi Emily! Thank you for another wonderful video! I love seeing how you draw and use colour, especially in your portraits. How do you draw so accurately though whilst working on a flat table? I find I get a lot of distorted perspective unless I have my sketchbook at more of an angle? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Take care 😊x
Hi Sarah! Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I used to work on an angled surface, but I find it harder to film for youtube. It's been quite the learning curve switching to a flat surface, and I still definitely get distortions sometimes 😅 Though, I find if I hold the drawing closer to me and lean over it frequently, I am able to get things more accurate. 💛
Thank you so much! I never thought about doing a video like that, but I could! 😊 The filming equipment I use are in the description. I use a tripod and a long boom extension to get the top down shots! ❤️
I would love to see your art tips in future videos, I'm sure it would help us a lot :) beautiful portraits, by the way! I want to find softer markers to try it too, I feel like the ones I have are too saturated for layering :v
I think the blotchy look of the markers may be because you are layering marker on top of the colored pencil sketch u should try lightly erasing the sketch so the markers layer more smoothly.
I kind of liked the blotchiness tbh. Im primarily a watercolor artist and i do semi realstic pieces. Like they look like the person but mich like your pieces, i tend to use funky colors or just whatever colors im feeling in the moment lol. However. I cannot for the life of me get into marker portraits..i want to. It looks fun..yours are so amazing but i feel like im always doing something wrong Any advice?
Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed watching!💛 Those marker portraits didn't go exactly as planned, but that's just how it goes in art sometimes 😅 Have a wonderful week, and put aside some time for art-making if you can! Much Love! -Emily
Me too!😊 Só please do the pencil portrait drawing tutorial. Thank you for sharing. 😊

I love watching you work. Your grasp of color in any medium is astounding. I graduated art school in 1988 and you are my hero! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much Rick. This comment made my day! Thanks again for watching and for leaving such a lovely comment. Wishing you all the best in your art journey! 💛
Hi Emily, I would love to see you do a portrait in pencils. I love coloured pencils. I love your style too. 😍
Hi! 💛 Thank you so much, that video is now high up on my list of videos to make! 😄
You are so good..!! I hope I would have even a tiny bit of that understanding about colors and shading like you do here…
I love the way you draw 😊
Awesome

They are such great sketchbooks! I have a couple of them in that size that I'm excited to dive into! 😊

It is such a delight watching you draw ❤ you have such masterful control over your mark making and colour choices. Absolutely inspiring!

Loved the corn flower blue you put behind Shelley \wendy head. So pretty!!
Thank you! It's one of my favourites, Prismacolor Sky Blue Light! I'm going to need to buy a replacement soon haha 💛
I think the fact that you change the angle of your pencil and marker gives the portraits a more lively and painterly feel.
Thank you 😊 I think this is why I enjoy the look of it! I find that it's more interesting for the eye to look at and also it's a fun way to show form!
These works are 😍 gorgeous. Yes, colour pencil video, mork marker drawings.. gauche... you go girl. 🙌 Congratulations on the desk and new pc. 👏
Thank you so much!! I will definitely make more videos on all of the above! 😄💛
another beautiful sketchbook spread and video !! the way you layer your colors is soo inspiring 💕✨
Thank you so much Jess!! 💗

Grateful for every good thing that is happening in your life.☺️😊

shame about the paper not liking the markers, your heads done with them look great 🙂
I know right?! Thank you so much Fuzzy! 💗
Also, if money. wasnt an issue, what would your favorite sketchbook be?
Another sketch from the movies video please! 🙏Loving your videos
I absolutely will do!! 😊 Thank you so much! 💛
So happy for you 🌱 Just curious, what software do you use to edit your videos?
Thank you so much! 💗 I use Da Vinci Resolve to edit videos currently :-)
I think the blotchy look of the markers may be because you are layering marker on top of the colored pencil sketch u should try lightly erasing the sketch so the markers layer more smoothly.
Ah I think you may be right! I will try this! 💛
Could you tell me where you found the marker caddy/ storage that you place on your desk in the opening montage?
I think I bought it at a Homesense a few years ago! 😊
Thank you! It’s perfect for what I need, but I can’t find anything like it.
Nice...
I’m not first but it’s fine I don’t care and I love your artwork and aesthetic I think it’s really cool
