    Aaaaahhhh I *MISS* the last TOR and don't want to wait for the NEXT! I've been around long enough that I still automatically think of the race as "The Whitbread" and I couldn't have enjoyed this addition more. The OBRs and socials made it really fun. Thanks Niall and all your team, you all made it great!

    • @alexandermenck6609
      @alexandermenck6609 9 месяцев назад +1

      This is an interesting development. In the Defi speed run Charal was fully foiling - now it’s clear why so. However, they weren’t terribly faster in that run and the question is whether this is stable in waves. Also, they may change the Rules.

    • @GermanGreetings
      @GermanGreetings 9 месяцев назад

      @@alexandermenck6609 I thought the same about the change of rules, and of course the long range success of a `third foil` depends totally on the wave conditions: The boat would run far more patient in low waves... and crash even harder downwards, when the waves are high. So maybe the forces attacking rigg and mast would even be worse... Thank you for answering, Sir !

    OBR's are a gamechanger and critical to the future of the sport. It would be more expensive but they need to be "OBF's" and let a shore team edit the raw footage. Double-triple the coverage.

    Big lesson, the media team needs more budget. This channel, the site and the app is what connects people to the racing and that is what the sponsors look for. I know pro's aint cheap, but they will pay for themselfs long term

      Last edition had amazing content coming from the boats, I am not complaining about the onboard reporters. I felt I was following teams in the race, instead of getting the big picture and scoops from here. In a way team media channels were out performing this channel.

      Media goes out first on this channel.
      You guy's have lot's of cool people to put on camera, but I would like 2 main hosts to keep it consistent day to day.
      1 main show per day 20-50 minutes episodes, morning and evening update would be great 2-4 minutes episodes.
      The main show needs to have the scoops, the juicy drone shots, the live interviews, the shore team interviews, the designer interview and all the other cool stuff. The updates are racing only, short and sweet.
      I felt you guy's were under supported last edition, the content was good, but not consistent.

    For what can be improved on the boats: I have seen a video a couple of years go I think, where someone put out some of the improvements that could be easily made to the boats to make them just a little bit faster.
    Things like, the railing being collapsible or at least have a shroud that is aerodynamically better.
    Having, like we saw on one boat, the boom as close as possible to the hull and have like a shout to the deck to keep pressure in the sail.
    Sure, it will maybe bring 0.1knots, but at a distance of 20-30k NM, it adds up.

  • @JoSe-rl1wk

    i think holcim prb was by far the best boat in the ocean race. They were completely dominant in the first half of the race, then lost their mast and i think the team was significantly downgraded after Escoffier stepped down and therefore lost the race.

    Are there any news regarding the Kevin Escoffier situation? I know it's been months since the incident, and I know that Holcim ditched him as skipper. It's been radio silence since the accusations arose in June. Fans would like to know what happened! Is he rotting in jail right now for an assault on his own team member?
    Actually now that I think about it, the mere fact that the issue is being swept under the rug says a lot... 😕

    Obviously, a lesson learnt (missing here) is that the 65 will disappear. There are a lot of reasons why, but nothing about that has been presented here. Pity.
    Essentially, the multi-purpose IMOCAS are around and can do TOR as an „add-on“. The pinnacle for these boats will always be the Vendee Globe. TOR will become an incubator for future TVG sailors which then will become teachers for „rookies“ - that’s the only way I see that TOR remains. Essentially what is going on right now.

    I've learned that this race has lost me as a fan.
    Seeing boats with crew in a wheel-house takes away all the magic, and the ability to relate to the sailing we (most) do.
    The VO65 gave us a lot of great racing, and some of the most amazing sailing video ever produced.
    Now it is just boring, and I predict that there will be no more editions of this race.

      The OBR's and Social media made it bigger than sailing. The old Whitbread race we would hear snippets some cases days old. Hear of dismasts and the like But now we live the moments with the crew. See the emotion. See the adventure. I personally am not a sailor but love every aspect of what I have seen . You can be sure that this will bring spectators ,aspiring crew and skippers and more importantly sponsors who will see return on their investment by the coverage that is now available. Sailing purists will not be happy but think back to when they introduced the one day cricket series and the purist said cricket was finished.
