Vince Staples Speaks on His Father's Gang Activity

- www.vladtv.com - California native Vince Staples spoke with VladTV about growing up in Long Beach after moving with his family from Compton. The "Fire" rapper says he didn't notice his father's gang activity, but he did notice how violent his parents were towards each other, including an incident where his father threw a Christmas tree and punched a cop.
Staples also said the two used to get into physical altercations all the time, with his mom being the avenger in most of the fights.
"They used to be fighting, fighting," he said. "My momma ain't no punk and my daddy wasn't one either and they're going to be arguing and someone is gonna try f***ing somebody up and that's just what it is. It wasn't no 'Get in the kitchen,' type s****' it was shut the f*** up, you're a b**** a** n**** and it was back and forth and back and forth so it is what it is."
He also says his father's time in prison around the time he was born might have influenced him to turn his life around. Staples says there's no hard feelings towards his dad since he's aware that some habits are hard to break.

Having a parent affiliated with gangs & mafia is equivalent to having a parent with addiction & mental illness, or having an abusive parent, or having a parent who is a narcissist/psychopath/sociopath. Basically, these types of parents are people who made Bad Choices in their Lives, where the Bad Choices goes from Lying, to Keeping Secrets, to Infidelity, to satisfying the Dark Ego, that resulted in bringing harm to themselves & their surroundings. Added to the problem was that these Toxic Parents NEVER admit the choices they made were "Bad" & instead they argued that the Choices they made were Right & have to be praised/worshiped.
As children born/raised in these kind of Toxic Parents, it is easy for these children to influence their Toxic Parents & become as bad as their Toxic Parents because we as children are programmed to learned from our surroundings. If our surroundings is Toxic, then we ourselves may likely become Toxic People, where we may end up also making similar Bad Choices as our parents would (thus, the quote: Like Father, Like Son & It is the way it is).
The hardest part about children born/raised in a Toxic Family like having parents affiliated with gangs is when that child "recognizes" what's right vs. what's wrong & decided with strong willpower to go the Right Path. The hardest part is when that child Breaks Free from the Toxic Cycle inherited from his/her family & becomes a Better Person. This is what we see in the life of Vince Staples.
