What an enjoyable piece of film !!The color play and the Martians were very unexpected--and great fun.I can't imagine the time you must spend editing-picking music-doing effects-etc. Truly a labor of love and I'm so glad you share it !
Thank you, Nicola -sublimely beautiful photography...I was tearing up by the end-and I’m just a damn yankee! I so appreciate how you make history live!
Enjoyed this very much. I was bought up on the Isle of Sheppey. We used to go on pleasure boat rides round the Richard Montgomery in the mid sixties. You got yourself a beautiful calm day there.
That's interesting; I once worked with a bloke who lived on Sheppey, and he told a story that I'm still not sure was a joke: he alleged that immediately after the war a captured German U boat was being towed up the Medway and all the blokes on Sheppey tried to surrender to it!
I was stationed near London a couple of times in the 90s but I never experienced many of the things you’ve introduced me to. It sure was a beautiful day. The weather almost perfect. Thank you so much.
What a great adventure, I certainly hope they are able to restore these historical forts. I can't watch something like this without wondering what the walls would say if they could talk. It must have been a moving experience.
@@nicolawhitemudlark I've read a little of the history of these forts and conditions could be very tough at times. During bad weather they sometimes went for extended periods without resupply and ran short of food and water. One soldier stationed there went mad and jumped to his death. His colleagues had the ghastly sight of seeing his body carried backwards and forwards past the fort as the tide ebbed and flowed.
What a great history lesson.....the graphics w the colors was awesome....and as always ur choices for ur audio r super.....love love love this one....more more more!!!!
Your cinematography is gorgeous and I loved seeing David's painting of the fort. As an American Anglophile I always love learning something new about the Thames. Thank you for your hard work!
I used to go fishing near those forts with my brother. On a nice day it's a beautiful place. They are like a man made reef and home to many different things. It must of been a very different place for the soldiers who manned them in the war! Always enjoy your wonderful adventures and finds.
Thank you Broderick. Yes, I agree, it must have been so different to actually be on those forts and to be stationed on them. We are so lucky that we can visit them in completely different circumstances.
Back in the day, as a young teenager I loved Radio 390 which I believe broadcast from these forts...it seems a long time ago now, but leaving aside the rather staid Radio Luxemburg, it seems incredible that until the pirate stations (early sixties - 1962? - to 1967 I think) there was no UK radio station broadcasting to youngsters, and no real UK radio outlet for pop music...
14:32 amazing sunset. love the clouds formation and the half sun. really interesting landmarks and history you share with us. the serene shots with the different colors was beautiful too! great video!
I just loved this video Nicola......thank you sooo much, I live in the Midlands which is just about as far away as you can be from the sea,I am blown away by the amount of history still standing, thanks again......I just love your history videos.
In the waters still history stands tall. A monument to a time long gone by. Yet they command a look by those who pass and thoughts of what story do these have to tell. Well done dear lady. Very inspiring !! Warm regards Albus
Brilliant as always, I can see two sets of the old forts on the horizon from Herne Bay, I always found them very enigmatic but have never seen them up close myself. your adventure was the next best thing thanks Nicola and friends
Informative and interesting yet again. It's not just about your superb mudlarking finds in previous vids. It's allowing us a snap shot in history with your commentary. Please keep it up.
Hi Nicola, thanks for time and effort and videos. Enjoy that history. I was born there, long time ago. Back in the 1960's. Don't remember much, very young. Nice going down memory lane. Thank you. Diane Southampton U.K.
What a fascinating video. I've seen photos of these before while perusing the internet, but never knew what, when, where or anything else about them. Now that I do, I can tell you that I'm both intrigued and creeped out, all at the same time. I appreciate you and your work. Thanks for sharing.
Once more Nicola you have entertained us with brilliant commentary and great photography. Music was soothing also. Couldn't help noticing the heavy air pollution hanging low on the horizon. Your breathing that. Your a joy to watch my love.
Such an incredible amount of history there. I could see myself living in one of the towers isolated from everyone else. The sound of the water and the view of the glorious sunrises and sunsets would be enough to keep me sane. Spectacular views during the voyage there and back. Thanks Nicola.❤ I always love the amount of information that goes along with the places you take us.
Thanks Donna. I would actually love to stay on one for a while. Back in 2004 (I think it was then), the artist Stephen Turner stayed on a Maunsell fort for a few weeks. He wrote a book called "Sea Fort" about his experience. I've always been rather envious to tell the truth! One day I would love to do that.
Another great video. Love the still photos of the forts. Also the colour changes in the video. You do have some great friends to take you on these trips.👍😀
"Going on an adventure." Always fun to go on an adventure! What a fun day trip! I love history, must be nice to have so much history right at your doorstep.
Brilliant RUclips Nic!! Loved the music and the visual effects too! Well done, they get better with each one. Will look forward now to your next trip on the sea with the Foxwell family!!
I saw these on another channel but you provided much more history. I thought the legs were steel pipes but now I know they're concrete. The ending was very nice with the sunset & music. Well done Nicola. I sure would like to see the inside of one but I know it's prohibited.
Joe Brown Check out "Abandoned Engineering" which is sometimes shown on the Yesterday channel. One episode visits these eerie structures and also goes to Hashima Island in Japan which was used as a location for Skyfall.
Splendid video I must say! It was so nice of you to give us a closer view of the old defensive positions out on the water. Looking forward to your next adventure. Thank you so much, Nicola! Cheers! :-)
Great history. I hope one day they could be refurbished as unique hotels, a little like the National Trust lighthouses. That would be such a cool place to get away form the hustle and bustle
A wonderful video touching on the iconic WW2 Sea Forts. I enjoyed the lovely scenes and music accompaniment. was marvelous. Thanks for taking us along, and thanks to the Foxwell Family as well! Cheers!
Nicola your informative stories and vids are awesome, keep up the good work, I can’t stop watching you and all your Muudlarking friends, wish I could be there with you all, be safe. Best to you from Ontario, Canada 👍👍👍❤️🇨🇦
Fantastic. Two of my favourite Utubers come together 👍❤️....I grew up around, on and in the Thames area and have visited these sites ( Sailing) many times. Sometimes not so pleasant when it’s dark or foggy and blowing a Hooley 😳. Have you visited the marshy islands opposite Queensborough landing Jetty ? As a kid I used to row there with my Brother from my Dads boat to go Mudlarking ! We found soooo much stuff...Poison bottles, clay pipes, Toothpaste pots etc etc I believe it was used as a dump and I certainly associated with the old Prison of war galleons that were moored up near by. The finds were all at the waterline as the banks eroded into the water. Love your videos and would love to get back out and Mudlark again one day . All the best Nicola 👍
As a fan of offshore radio, I took the ferry from Sheerness in 1981to see those forts and Knock John tower..also the Radio Caroline mast after it sank..
Wow, Nicola, you've excelled yourself with this Adventure! Wonderful - and how blessed were you with the weather? AMAZING! Gorgeous photography and helpful research - just fascinating. Thank you very much... PS: Music credits? Perfect (Bit of the Matt Bellamy's about the piano!) Perfect collaboration - can't wait to see more... Have you ever been over to West Mersea? I would think there would be some good mudlarking over there? Cheers, great stuff! 👍🎬🥂😊⛵
Excellent video Nicola loved your narration of all the forts. Looked like a great day for sailing. I love history but I never knew those forts where there. Guess I need to learn more. As always be safe 😊
Thank you Nicola for taking us on this adventure. Very interesting and beautiful.
Thank you and thanks for watching
Amazing video Nicola! And beautiful music. What a pleasure to get to go with you to a place I never knew existed ! Love the history.
Thanks Robin. Thanks for accompanying me!

Hi, yes, you're absolutely right. One of the stations was radio 390. Those were the days! (apparently). x
Yes you're far to youthful to remember those days...and if I may say so, beautiful too!
What an interesting story! I had not known about this before. The photography was exceptional.
Thank you!

Mmm yeah would really enjoy that too with the smell of death and the history of war. No. Donna. No
The war is over now. these are just relics of the past. We can give them a new history - a peaceful one.
@@antonh.5818 We can still be respectful of the past but also start a new beginning. I would love to be a part of that.
Beautifully done, Nicola!
Thanks for sharing a cool experience! What a gorgeous day!

Excellent job of presenting a brief history
Thanks, that was a fantastic history lesson. Too good to lose. Just the look of them is enough to make the imagination come to life.
Also look like the machines used in star wars on the snowy planet where there is a battle and the walking guns looked just like those.
Stunning video Nicola thankyou 🤗
Excellent video as ever Nicola.

Have you ever read any of Bernard Cornwell's historical fiction? I was wondering if you've ever seen any early Saxon/Viking locations near water.

An awesome piece of history. Thanks for making this video. :-)
