Hi Paul Patt, sorry I'm getting back to you so late. Here's the forum thread I used for my replacement parts: www.focusfanatics.com/forum/duratec-performance-2003-2007/755762-%2430-performance-intake-using-factory-parts.html

Wow what in the world do you drive through? I watched a couple videos with these awful foam filters and decided to swap out the lifetime box for an aftermarket box with replaceable filter on my '05 a couple years ago. 150k+ miles and my foam filter stack was virtually immaculate. The first one was slightly grayed in the corner, but that's it.

I have the same car; I'm considering working on the air filter as well. I was thinking of replacing it but I'm worried about the quality of an aftermarket filter. Looking at how clean those bottom foam layers makes me wonder if it would be worth it to cut open the box and clean it instead. It's a stupid design but seems to filter well.

You can go with this basic setup and get the filter from Ford.

@@MattJasa It was 35 USD when I made the video. No idea what it would be today, but salvage yards would probably have the parts for real cheap.

Okie. Sorry but with all that foam that engine couldn't breathe. I bet a cold air aftermarket which I'm going
To do will run better but can't promise any better MPG..

There was no noticeable increase in power, but the car had 250k miles, so...

I have a 2007 ford focus 2.0 duratec that I use as a daily for work...140 miles round trip M-F. First I removed the "lifetime" filter completely and replaced it with a K&N Sri Typhoon system, then replaced the 2nd catalytic converter with a Magnaflow Hi Flo converter/resonator delete, as well as a Magnaflow straight through exhaust muffler at the end,( all new piping from the new CC back.)
The power, mpg, sound, everything is MUCH better, transformed the car essentially. The original lifetime filter and tubing are extremely restrictive.
In the future ill replace the manifold and 1st catalytic converter(that are one unit) with a Magnaflow header/ Hi Flo cat unit oem spec.

un_COG sorry for the late reply. I went with an alternative solution for my air filter, so I simply broke the box open. Smashed it with a pipe, IIRC.

It is supposed to be oily....that's how lifetime filters work.

K&N makes lifetime filters, but they still let you access the filter itself for periodic inspection/cleaning. This was by far the dumbest design Ford has done to date. I didn't even realize the intake tube was a plumber's nightmare. Jesus, these engines make 145 hp stock. Seems you could pick up 5-10 hp easily by ditching all of that bull shit in favor of a cold-air intake unit.

Yes, at the 0:50 mark you'll see me tap the new air filter. It's one of the 2 parts for a 2012 Focus which I bought.

I cut down the tube with the mass air flow sensor in it and put a cone filter on but I am getting a check engine light for
    1. mass or volume air flow circuit low
    2. system too lean
The car is also running poorly
    Any ideas?

Nicole Nowak Dickinson Try turning the mass air flow sensor around. I believe it's unidirectional.
