Growing up in Korea I was listening Charles Aznavour and falling in love with chanson . Married to French man and moved to California and continue listen to his music . When my mother passed away , I cried so much as I listened La mama till there was no more tears left in my eyes . I believe my mother who loved chanson meet him in heaven .Amazing artist and beautiful man !!

As much as I loved Sinatra's voice and music, I find it absolutely ridiculous and pathetic that the anglo-Saxon countries call Charles Aznavour the French Sinatra! He was just Charles Aznavour who wrote his own lyrics and composed his own music, something Sinatra never did. He carried out our language and culture around the world loud and clear for 70 years. Merci Charles pour vos magnifiques chansons. Adieu l'artiste.

Completely agree. Not to take anything away from Sinatra, but one would just have to look at the body of work that Aznavour has produced thru 7 decades, a beloved international artist.

Francine: I totally agree. No comparison. Aznavour is unique and Sinatra not even close to what Aznavour accomplished in the world of music. One of the top 5 artist and entertainers ever!!

@@farzadk6428 I do believe that those who compare Sinatra and Aznavour must be Americans where singers in general
sing a tune often very beautiful but hardly "brought" a song as not only Aznavour but many chansonniers do, like
Piaff, Brell, Becaud and so many more. It is indeed pathetic as Francine wrote that Aznavour is put in the same category with Sinatra - he was distinctly different, writing his own songs and above all lyrics which are the essence of a
chanson. Almost the first time I heard one of his songs "Tu Te Laisse Aller" I knew this is a poet who sings and
Sinatra never got to that level; lyricist are quite unique like Cohen and others often more like cabaretiers who have a message and know how to bring it. There are those that do that in the English language like Newley but in general
Americans like their stars to be great voices and hardly care about the lyrics ( can I dance to this...) So please don't
ever compare the two, they are truly incomparable
      "

Francine Sicard Allow commenters in the media and elsewhere to use their own language to reach out to broader audiences to tell stories of cultural value, such as in this case. Critiques such as expressed by you spread a personal resentment at risk of toxicity. The easiest thing to do is to indulge the negative. Be careful though this position is also seductive to the espouser. Grace and being tolerant while teaching others with compassion, goes a long way on this plane of human consciousness evolution. Blessings.

Mr Charles Aznavour was truly a piece of French history because he cared about his country and the people who cared about him. He really very much represented "Le Petit Poeme" of the music world for millions of people who will always listen to his voice and his music. A romance in manner of the legend, the chant and all of which he represented to so many fans who will always remember the legacy of Mr Charles Aznavour, may he rest in peace in the lord's welcoming arms!!
He was not a french Sinatra...
Charles Aznavour was much greater :
composer, author, politician, philanthropist, actor, ... and artist who sang in French, Armenian, English, Spanish, Russian (perhaps few more languages).
    His music will live FOREVER!!!

A great man. A bon vivant of a singular scope. A connoisseur of style. A poet of Love and of Life. A generally wise and gentle soul. A singer and songwriter of an unprecedented scale. The two wisdoms that escaped him, was the ever-so-mainstream, intolerably daft abstention from consuming animal torture, and his proclivity for social, racial, political and religious ultra-leftism (so much so that he even accepted his daughter's insufferable, shameful degradation of voluntarily succumbing a brazen shag-exploit of an arab skirt chaser - he even publicly justified his daughter's moral, aesthetic, cultural, sexual failure. But then again, there's not a single successful celebrity today untainted with the pathetic cancer of xenomania). RIP, dear Charles.

He was both... but to understand that you need to understand the french culture. when in most other countries and cultures, you have the "right of blood" for birth rule, France is "home soil right" rule... And being French is more a feeling, a way of life, Charles Aznavour arrived in France very young and ALWAYS said he was French... We can be French by spirit... From a grandson of an immigrate that France gave a chance to survive.
