This is so dumb for business, here's what's going to happen
Most people will not be able to tell what they are buying anymore just looking at the pc with the highest CPU number
So they will google "best laptop" and look for top 10 lists or review videos from tech channels
And those those top lists and review videos always talk about the same laptop over and over, so most people are only gonna buy those ones
Since people are only gonna buy those ones, all other manufacturers will sell a lot less laptops, and since they sell a lot less they buy a lot less CPU from Intel and AMD
So in the end this will not only hurt the consumer, but also the laptop manufacturers and Intel and AMD themselves

As if big tech product naming wasn't bad enough already, prebuilt companies compound this problem by omitting SO MANY details about the parts that you're getting.
They will not tell you if their listing is "RTX 4070" if you're getting a 4070 GDDR6 or GDDR6X. They won't even bother to list the brand of 4070 you're getting, and most likely, it'll be the cheapest one they can slap in a build while still being able to stamp "4070" on it.
With how bad all this naming is, your best bet is to just Google everything you see, and compare them using results from trusted sources. The age of being able to compare CPUs by their name alone is dead.

Then they messed up calling their Laptop range CPU's inbetween the desktop variants. AMD also copied Nvidia's stupid 0000 ranges, forgetting before the RX5700 XT, there was no 4000 range for them to keep copying Nvidia. It's AMD's fault for being cowards, and not breaking away from the stupid Nvidia and Intel's ranges. AMD could have set themselves apart, especially with how well Ryzen performed, but no, they still have zero confidence in their own product ranges without copying Intel.

At the end of the day every business only has two objectives. 1) To maximize profits. 2) To minimize costs. The bigger the business, the more ruthlessly they pursue these objectives. What drives the requirement for profit? Growth, because if there's not profit there's no growth. And because the monetary system requires growth to continue running, here we are.
Not only that but because there is a requirement for growth, there must also be growth for that growth and growth for that growth of growth etc. That's where inflation comes from.

Apple is just as bad if not worse than any other company when it comes to obfuscating performance tiers with their naming conventions. The chip and spec configuration is easy to understand like what vex said, not necessarily mean they are valuable or apple doesnt do shady stuff but when it comes to naming their products they got it right mostly. Honestly most consumers don't care how it is naming, people care is it new released and just know bigger number = higher price = higher performance, that is, although it is not always truth but most people don't want to learn and they don't buy tech product frequently.

Price patterns seem to be the center of attention for everyone, while volume is typically ignored. I've been learning more about it, and I think that technical analysis is greatly improved by understanding volume with price action!

You know what's the worst part?
Meteor Lake with a better looking naming scheme has way worse perfomance than Raptor Lake mobile.
I watched benchmarks and my 12th i7 K series chip is still faster than those laptop chips.

This is some of the worst thing in modern culture. if you are are rich and smart, you can go out and buy the best possible products and they just work together most of the time.
If you are on a budget, you litterally have to make yourself less intelligent to get a deal.

Any computer in the store is likely a few months old sitting on the shelves. It’s not that new. New CPUs take months to reach mass production. So they are likely to be last generation as the companies announce new products.

This is crass obfuscation taken to it's logical conclusion.
It demonstrates an utter contempt for the needs of the customer.
Governments should take their hands out of these corporate pockets and legislate in defense of the consumer.
    Ha! Fat chance!

If you do not understand the naming, why don't you make a research on that instead of throwing sounds? Nobody will ask why someone's name is like this or that and they don't understand it.. Regards.

Naming doesn't matter for the average person. They see bigger number better and more descriptors, Tis, XTs, and +s and get the gist of the products performance.
