Thanks from Japan. You have really excellent teaching skills. Super clear. Also appreciate the way your editing adds to the story instead of just showing off the latest trick you found in your software. Nice work.
Getting my little son started on a bike and these extra little tips to help me to get him to start building good habits is very helpful. Thanks just subscribed and hit the notification keep up the good work
Just turned 40, up and decided to buy a 2021 Beta 250RR !! Used to ride when i was a kid, never had any coaching or training so wanted to thank you for acctually showing the correct way to squeeze thw bike. Turning my toes in has made a massive diff, in both control, and reduced arm pump immensely!! Thanks again !!
Great tip, I will definitely use the pigeon toe, I kinda have always squeezed the bike hard with my knees but I'm riding slower these days, so I'll take all the help I can get. 👍 Thanks.
Awesome video. I have learnt so much!! Can you do a video on large mid corner bump or large exit corner bumps. That’s where I struggle the most. I can’t stand being the corner is too tight but if I sit I feel like I am riding a bull!
Great info! Keep the fundamentals coming. Really helps man. Thank you. However one question or request would be a longer video on body posture/ body position on corners that are long corners and hair pins. Corner entry mid corner and corner exit. Kinda of like a Keith Code style walk through. It’s so hard dealing with the dirtbike snapping up and getting away from you (me) as a rider. I would like to hear you explain and break down corners and body position in dealing with the power coming etc. how to lean into the power etc.
I’ve been riding since I was 7 and now I’m 14 and I’ve been riding with my foot straight when standing up and have been braking while sitting but I really want to change so I’ve tried braking while standing but when I do the pigeon toe to hit the brake while standing and to grip it feels super uncomfortable and I always forgot to do it. Any tips? I really want to change my foot position. Thanks
I’ve heard when Jalek Swoll pulled his groin, he was saying how it affected him being able to grip the bike. I don’t think the top pros are using their knees as much as they’re using the inner thigh/groin area to grip the bike with their legs and core. good video by the way I’m just making a comment as a suggestion
Total gumby/noob here. Got a 2007 KX450 in a trade deal, and it scares the shit out of me. Have only putted it around the driveway, and am waiting for a set of protective gear in the mail before I go out to open her up. But here's my question: got offered an 07 KX125 2t and like $500 for the bike, and am really tempted as it's like 30 lbs lighter and has a more usable powerband for a noob like me, but my friend says I'll outgrow that bike pretty fast and have regret. What should I do? :)
I find that when I ride toes in I get accidental engagement of the rear brake or accidentally downshift on some landings. I am a bigger rider with size 13 boots, but I don't think this is the problem as when I watch your video I can see your toes are also over your foot controls. Is it likely that I'm running my controls too high? Should I be moving my foot position back to the balls of my feet in the air so that my toes are short of the controls? I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to figure this out. I find I ride toes out to avoid that, and that means my legs don't squeeze as well, and my arms pump up faster, so I'd like to change, but dropping a gear and stabbing the rear brake on the landings is an issue I need to fix.
I would definitely try running them lower it will help, it will be awkward at first, I would also look into finding a linger shift lever for more and rear break lever for more room, try riding in the balls of your feet toward your toes just like when attacking woops or rough sections of track it will be weird for awhile, but it also gives you more control and stability not only are you knees absorbing impacks you ankles are absorbing the energy as well...
Hey Johnny i had a pair of mobius braces and they felt super foreign. While riding forced my toes to point out also made it near impossible to get my toe under the shift lever. What do you recommend?
Patrick Farrell new knee braces my friend. If they are inhibiting the proper technique something is wrong. But perhaps try and adjust them to see if you can live with them. If not I recommend PODS or EVS axis braces. Sorry if this wasn’t the response you were looking for my friend.
@@Johnny_Hopper thank you! Its an expensive venture into the knee brace world! I guess i was just disappointed in the results from the mobius. Most places have a good return policy so ill give a the couple brands you referred a try!
Patrick Farrell glad I could help. Knee braces are not a requirement I have torn my acls with and without them. But I do think they make squeezing the bike easier
This video is really clear and well done. Thank you! But I don't understand WHY you're squeezing the bike? I'm new to riding and feel like I could adopt this, I just don't understand the logic. If anyone can chime in I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
All I can say the next time I hit the track , I’m part of the pigeon toe crew for life 😆 but I will still ride on the balls of my feet though old school like semics bwaaaahh bwaaaah bwaaaaaaaaah 2 smoking all day with less arm pump at last 😁
Zgembo121 I have gotten quite a few messages on Instagram about this and what I have seen from my taller friends is they buy a 3-6 inch taller seat so they can grip.
Awfully wrong you need to make sure to sit down everywhere legs spread toes out arms and elbows down also make sure to let off the gas right before the lip of any jump while sitting down leaning as far forward as you can practically sitting on gas tank. Pro tip off the day.

I have knocked knees so this comes easy as long as I keep my feet straight! Lol. Great quality video Johnny, keep it up!
Thank you so much for sharing this info I really wanted and needed to know this specific info

Thanks man starting out at 48 years old I’m a little behind the learning curve ha ha!
Nice videos Johnny! Where were you 50 years ago when I was a kid... lol
thanks for sharing!
Exactly, too bad we didn't have this kind of info when we were kids.
Never rode on sand!! I saw it on other comments ,it sure would help me out
I used to ride with knee braces but i felt like how the ones i had on i couldn’t grip the bike right
Quality topic
Thanks for the tip. I just realized that my squeeze-game is weak because my feet are pointed out too much.
What situations/terrain do you want to loosen your legs and not be pinching the bike?
What about jumping when landing?
Do you just squeeze with ur toes and knees and still stay loose in uppperbody?
How do you feel about steg pegz to help with this?
Great info! Keep the fundamentals coming. Really helps man. Thank you.

Mark Magness stay tuned
Ride them FAST and steer with your foot pegs!
what about tall riders, my knees are above the seat... :/

@@Johnny_Hopper thanks .... that makes sense and might even make things safer

ThatBoyU LikeAndKnow stay tuned
Throttle wfo and lean back
C Chis lol he has a point in theory this is how we all should ride lol
Tried this and landed pigeon toed. Blew out the side of my knee

Braaaaaaapp! 😹
Great tips but your audio sucks I can barely hear it
I'm 6' 3", squeezing with my knees would mean I'm sitting down... Lol
Same I just use my inner lower legs right below the knees or I have to get super low knee braces deff have helped me since I'm taller to squeeze
@@93Viggen23 I'm 6'5" I feel ya. Pigeon toe and do the best you can.
I just want to feel squeezed...
Knee braces should only be prescribed by a physician.
