Yes, it is the desire by God for a man to have 1 wife but the same God will acknowledge a man with more than one wife for as long as the man stands in truth and takes responsibility before Him concerning his situation. God will consider those women as wives to the man when procedures defined and formalized for a woman to be wife are followed and God can grant Grace meant for such a situation. The Apostole Paul, when he addressed the Church, specifically outlined the requirements concerning the position of a Bishop in church, in that he be a husband of "one wife". Why? because the role requires a lot of responsibility, something that a man with multiple wives would not be able to cope with and such husbands would not stick out as best model yet their situation and their wives are accepted by God. Meaning, men with multiple wives were also there in the church and could take other roles except the role of a Bishop. David, when he killed the husband of Bethsheba, he wept before God and repented and took RESPONSIBILITY and owned up to his mistakes by formalizing Bethsheba as wife to him, along with his other wives. He did not say "Oh Lord I repent and now I will ask Bethsheba to leave me and I pray she will find someone who will marry her". In such a situation Bethsheba would have suffered shame and hard life if David had dumped her just like that. God acknowledged David and situation by which Bethsheba was now wife to David, and God even went on to bring Jesus Christ, our lord and saviour, through that line of Bethsheba wife to David. Kana yadeuka take responsibility and present your case and situation before God in humility and fear of God and you will receive grace in your special situation. As the Bible says, "there is nothing new under the sun".
