    Kevin just something to think about. When calculating operating cost for your plane my suggestion is don't leave out all of your improvement costs to the plane even though that will make the cost per flight hour seem high. You should consider cradle to grave costs of the airplane meaning every cost from price you paid for your plane to improvements, maintenance fuel , etc... to get a true hourly operating cost (remember this plane is worth a substantial amount of money when you sell). I am a business analyst in asset management so this is kind of my wheel house. I also have my commercial pilots license and own a blistering fast Piper Cherokee 140/160 and my operating cost per flight hour is considerably higher than renting but the joy and freedom of owning your own airplane if you can afford it is is well worth the cost :) Love your channel and have been watching for quite some time (couple years for sure). Take care...

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  3 года назад

      Thanks for the explanation on determining operating cost Coyne. Considering your job title, you seem well qualified on the subject. I have all the receipts since day one. Maybe I'll sit down one day and put it all together? Although I'm not sure I'd want to know. :) As you mention, it for sure wasn't an investment...it's about the joy and freedom. I feel like most people that are asking just want to know average maintenance, fuel, insurance, etc yearly cost to see if they have enough to attempt the plunge. Guess that goes to your point of masking the true hourly cost though.
      Glad you're enjoying the channel and we really appreciate the support!!

    I just sold my Cirrus SR22 and have been thinking about getting a 310 for awhile now so this was a timely video for me. I know you mentioned in a past video why you chose the Q model over any other. What is it about the Q model you like over the R model?

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  3 года назад +1

      Howdy Paul...glad you're enjoying the channel and congrats on the sale! The Q is the exact same wing/cabin as the R. The only difference is the Q came with 470's and the R came with 520's and has a long nose with a baggage compartment. The R would not fit in our hangar. There are STC's for the Q to change the 470 out for either a 520 or 550. I dream about the 550 conversion. Supposedly a Q with 550's is the fastest Twin Cessna below 10K. :)

Just thinking it might be cool if P&W came up with a cost effective mini-PT6, maybe 400ish SHP, to replace the piston engines on 300-400 series Cessna's. With all the advancements in materials and process's keep it at ~$100k or less/side, we could have mini-King Air's kinda sorta. LOL I know it's not pressurized, but still would go further for TBO and no piston issues. 8) Just daydreaming..... LOL 8) --gary

      I usually rotate at 100. When I'm calling the speeds it usually is 70, 80, 90, rotate and that happens at 100 but I usually don't say it. Not sure why I did this time. :)

    @310 Pilot. What is the name of the song or country band that plays your "fill in" music with the steel guitar? Is there a way you could email it to me? Your RUclips channel is amazing. I learn so much about flying. Please tell Jamie I said hello. GO DAWGS!!

    Jaime,
    I just finished reading comments and your replies.
    Were you flying before you became an ATC and how much has being an ATC helped your flying or vice-versa?
    Your Cessna color scheme kicks assets:)
    You should be number one with or without Jaime, better with Her:)
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector

    The one thing I really do not like about the Twin Cessna Flyer is that they specifically EXCLUDE my favorite twin engine Cessna, the 337. Alas, no love for the venerable old Skymaster.

    Kevin - you've made reference to "figuring out the landing" with the new wing VGs(and paint) several times. Now that your landings are ++ again - what were the changes in the landing numbers for 1BC? ....... just curious ...... ;-p
    ps: Hi Jamie!

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  3 года назад

      I used to stay at blue line (Vyse 117) till short final then bleed the speed and touch down. After the VG's I had to be closer to 97 or so on short final to feel the flare and touch down okay. Took me a bit to get the hang of. :)

    I haven't seen Jamie in a while. You're pretty but I would rather watch her. Advise her that she needs to get back in the air.

    My days are totally messed up now. Hoping for a Friday fix with Jamie. Starting to forget what she sounds like. It would be cool if she ended up being your controller one day.

      I have been busting my butt to edit more than normal and release some Tuesday videos in addition to my normal Friday ones so I can get through these videos and onto our fun flying vacation together. I think that vacation starts after 2 more of these type videos. It is going to be an awesome series with us going to PA, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, Maine, New Hampshire, and Niagara. Stay tuned!! :)

    Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see the mirror on the engine to confirm the gear is down. Did you not replace it after paint????

      I've never had a mirror. I do remember flying an older Seneca that had one.

    Why do you keep so many of the old instruments? Given that you don’t have a Garmin PFD that can show engine parameters will you opt for a JPI?

    Is your 310 in MPH or Kts? I’m training in a 310 Q and we rotate at 89. Climb out at blue line at 107. Just wondering if you wait to rotate to be closer to blue line

    i have a couple of questions..how does the fuel system work...meaning how are you able o turn fuel pumps off once at certain level?? does air pressure outside cause you to not need the pumps??..and i wonder what you are looking at air speed wise when you call out to self/and maybe cameras ""climbing at blue line""you might have explained it and i missed it!!

    • @429thunderjet2
      @429thunderjet2 3 года назад +1

      Engines have fuel pumps, Boost pumps are backup. Blue line is best single engine climb speed, you want to be at on climb out in case you do loose an engine, I should add

      Both

      As Jeffrey said, both. I want the viewers to know what I'm thinking/doing and those callouts are very important to me for safety as takeoff is the most critical time. Even professional two crew airliners verbalize many of those type callouts on departure.
