My story with the V10 M6 dates back to 7 years ago when I was in the States for college. One early afternoon during summer break just after lunch, I was just about to leave the restaurant close to the central street of the campus, I heard F1 noises and was shocked. I immediately rushed out to find an unassuming BMW dolphin like Grand Coupe. As it was leaving, I saw that it did not have rear mufflers at all. As it sped away, the revs going higher, early 2000s F1 notes came. From that day on I guess the E63 M6 got into my subconsciousness and years later when I finally accumulated enough cash, I got one of my own. The appearances were fine but I was only able to find out late that the engine was mistreated. Getting it back in shape was more expensive than buying the car itself😂

That is epic man, I’m so glad that you have one!
I don’t know, the way I see it, a guy is getting a car that cost 150k CAD new (in 2024 money). For as cheap as you can get these, it doesn’t bother me too much that they require lots of $$$ to maintain and take care of. Annoying as it may be, a guy should be thankful you got to skip the high price to buy and be prepared for high price to take care of it 🤷‍♂️😂

Vanos pump is an issue but not as common as people think. They typically happen to the 2006 cars because there is only one oil drain plug, in the '06 cars there is a large deposit of oil that sits in the pump which builds acidity and wears out the internals. Halfway through the 2007 production they added a oil drain plug at the vanos pump to get all the oil out of the pan. Halfway through 2008 they updated the Vanos pump (though part # remains the same I believe) and there have been virtually no reported failures of the vanos pump on a 2008.5 car and above.

I have one, owned for maybe 3 years now, and I can't recommend the Eibach Pro Kit suspension enough - drops it nicely but it's still pretty much as smooth as stock springs and I haven't changed the dampers - EDC still working well.
Aside from that I've had one of the two actuators go, I ordered a lifetime warranty kit and replaced both myself - took around 5 hours. Fiddly but doable by yourself with basic tools. I had a garage do my rod bearings, at 69k miles the original ones weren't actually that worn but better safe than sorry.
Haven't really had any other problems, some water ingress killed my yaw sensor which led to some interesting behaviour, now fixed at a price of £20.

wow man! thank you very much for the insight, i appreciate it, i was actually looing at the Eibach kit for this car! it needs the drop bad, and i was wondering if it would affect the car electronically.

Thanks a ton man! I appreciate it a lot.
Hopefully we can get some more driving clips soon, here in Alberta winter is in full swing, and we hit -50 degrees Celsius last week, which is insane even for us. limped the m6 to car wash when I got it home, and she’s been inside since haha,so we been pretty stagnant 😂
How did you like the 650i vs the XFR?

    • @kierandunn3306

@@Code3media199 I feel you on that, we’re -8 degrees Celsius in Scotland and I daily the xfr it’s a bit of a handful has the pulley upgraded etc.
The 650 was a great entry to the v8 market and was a brilliant car for a year. I went on to buy my dream car merc cls63 2012.
It blew up the day after I bought it and have an ongoing legal dispute over a year later 😳
The week after the merc blew up the gearbox went in the 6 series 😂 was setback to a scabby old Audi for a while and then bought the jag.
I love it so far perfect middle ground between the merc and the 650 but the maintenance costs are definitely showing sure. Bought it in November and have since had to fork out for replacement water pump multiple hoses etc.
Can’t wipe the grin off the face hopping in with the custom exhaust/xpipe it’s a hooligan in dress shoes for sure 😂
Best of luck the m6 and I look forward to future content!

The SMG is not slow. At level 6, no human on the planet can shift faster than the hydraulic system. I have owned my 2007 M6 e64 since new. 67k miles and has been a great car.

Knows a couple Super car owner happily Drives them daily or long trips and said. They have very similar engine If not better than the Lambo They bought. They has almost the exact same gearbox as the older gen Lamborghini. They Both have the same issue in the gearbox. And BMW parts Don't have the Lamborghini markup on them. And having this Super car like performance and the high rev engine with the ability to take more than two ppl for a holiday on a trip is crazy. And They actually call them CHEAP to maintain for how useable it is daily. Argument goes in if they wants a NA Super engine. As long as they have the similar performance. They almost never reliable and most of the time been produced by a big name with high Mark up on the parts. Eg. u never really see a Lamborghini owner complain about costing them 20k to repair something. Exact same repair on the BMW v10 Gets a lot cheaper But every m6 owner is giving a bad taste to other ppl. And Yet Everyone try to get a Lambo haha.

I have had an m6 for a little over 4 years, the firmware of the SMG gearbox needs to be updated, I had the problem that the box returned a gear and it broke a synchronizer ring, I got a gearbox in the UK for about 500 usd, I changed the clutch, I did complete maintenance on all the seals in the hydraulic system, we separated the cables that tend to break over the years, and I have only been enjoying the car for more than 2 years, I bought it with 40,000 km and today it is With 71,000, I am looking to do the roadberings and maintenance to the vanos system.

Couldn’t you use thinner bearings or thinner oil maybe to help with rod bearings from needing to be replaced?

    • @Code3media199
      @Code3media199  День назад

Sort of! I have switch the car to a very expensive Motul esther oil that helps, and there are high clearance replacement bearings available, but if a guy buys an s85 powered car, it’s just kinda part of the maintenance list every 80-100km 😂
The nice part is, parts to do it cost about the same as replacing brake pads and rotors, so if you can do your own work, it’s not too bad!
