The reasons you have enumerated resonate with my current situation as well. Been in diaspora for almost 30 yrs and a lot has changed back in Kenya since I left. My kids are now grown and I cannot fathom restarting life back there when I have made a life here. Perhaps the circumstances will change down the road but it is unlikely for me at to think about moving back at this time.
Here is the thing.....I have lived in Europe longer than Kenya. But I always think of home and I would love to be there. My ideal situation would be to have both places at my disposal. I want to live both here and in Kenya. I prefer to invest in a secure apartment in Kenya which I can use during my stay there whilst still having a home base here in Europe. I would mantain my status which is why gaining citizenship should be a priority. I will keep working here until I retire then enjoy my harvest in both continents. When things are good in Kenya, I am there. And when things are unstable, navuka bahari and I'm back these sides. Best of worlds.

Major problem is financial literacy. Even our parents who had houses build are asset rich and cash poor. No money to even buy medicine as they age. You need to plan that i advance. Bonds long term, Money market for short term. Stock for middle to long.
