YouTube Promotions Beta: Final results after spending $500+

- We answer a viewer's question of whether or not RUclips Promotions Beta is worth it for new channels. Are the subscribers gained real or fake? Do the new subscribers help your channel grow? Do these subscribers come back and watch your new content? Are there any benefits to running RUclips Promotions Beta?
All of these questions answered and more in this video.
If you liked this video, then you'll like when I showed my halfway RUclips Promotions Beta results: ruclips.net/video/P1_PzYDF008/видео.html
i uploaded 4 gameplay videos to my channel since this past Sunday, 5 days ago... i invested $225 in the Promotions tab to have youtube promote these 4 videos... now, 5 days later i went from 22 subscribers i had Sunday to 1170+ subscribers i have now... i noticed traffic to my channel has increased significantly, and viewership of my older videos has also increased... my only worry is "view duration"... viewers who click on my videos don't stick around to watch the whole thing... i guess they don't like the content, but then, if they don't like my content, why are they subscribing to my channel??? i don't get that
The link is broken.
I do think it puts you up to a good start, but when you start to being noticed you should stop and grow naturally.. This way you will make sure your channel doesn't die
I'm on board with this! I stopped running promotions after my channel started to gain a little traction.
Agreed
Did it work?? Cause ive done the same and im worried @WesGPT
I'm going to try it out and come back in a month or so and say how it went. I'm currently at 20 subscribers. I feel like my videos definitely deserve more reach and a lot of people in comments surprised at how I only have 20 subs. I intend on doing about $5-$10 a day. Thank you for the video!
Let us know how it goes!
Great video! Loved the honest assessment. Would you give is one more update 30 days after the last promotion ended?
I have an update now!
Since I stopped, my channel has grown significantly. I think that the promotion brought a bunch of "bad" subscribers which hurt future video performance.
For example - when a new video is published, impressions go out to all of these promotion subscribers and viewers. They don't click and watch, which hurts the CTR and AVD, which doesn't show my video to a larger audience.
I probably won't be running promotions for a while until I see it differently. Hope this helps :)
@Mani-2057 Undecided. Sorry I don't have a more clear-cut answer. It's tough to tell if promotions helped or hurt my channel in the end.
@@WesGPTits been another month after posting this reply. How do you see promotions now? Did it hurt your channel? Is it worth the risk?
@@Ontos99 My opinion is that it's not worth the money. Would I be open to try it again in the future? Yes.
I realized the entire issue is in low CPM countries actually sending bots to the ads whereas you dont see those bots if you ONLY target 1st world countries. Sure the sub counts are much less but at least I know they will engage with my content. I checked the ones who subbed and they all have other subs on my own niche. Real people!@@WesGPT
ive spent £50 willing to spend the same anount, is it worth it? I found your vid in search haha i feel how you wanna know whos from where :)
It's tough to tell if it was the number of uploads (i made 50+ videos in 40 days) or the RUclips promotions that jump-started the channel.
I don't regret running promotions but I won't run them again. It got to a point where RUclips is recommending me to the right people FOR FREE so I don't need to spend any money.
What were your results so far? Have you seen an uptick in impressions since stopping your promotions?
how about spent 5k to get a silver play button?😃
Why woukd they be fake? That makes no sense on yt's part
I think it just sucks up the bots already present on the platform, as they like & subscribe to everything
I woukd never buy subs, I did run a $100 promo, it gained me about 10k views, my vid got 20k total, which 4k of that 20k I earned from related video option on shorts, so my regular video only got 6k, if i didnt do anything, would been pretty rubbish if I didn't do it and go viral on a short as well, to get those related video views on top of the promo, I ran I woul Def say it was a success and I will give her another try, shorts were up and lives were nothing
I also feel like the promo helped my shorts
The question is - are FUTURE videos getting extra views because of the promotions? If so, I'd definitely say it was a success 😊
You are right about impressions, the promo beta does improve your channel's authority and your videos do get suggested more by the algorithm.
Cool, I definitely noticed that too (at least it feels like it)
Could you give me an update with the promotion?
@@Rain-ec4jj Update: I stopped running the promotions as I felt it was killing future video performance (my CTR and AVD was dropping significantly).
I'm not 100% convinced these are real subscribers!
@@WesGPTAgree man. I run promotion i feel they are all bots
@@WesGPT very confusing why youtube wants to kill channels which are paying them by giving fake subs
It might be too late but I would have targeted more look-a-likes from my best performing organic videos and the regions that I organically was getting views from. Choosing so many countries I think ruined the experiment. And by default ruined the organic potential of boosting your channel.
The analytics literally tell you who your audience is and from where they are watching, those are the folks to go after.
I love your enthusiasm and your information.
I have a video with a %3 sub rate and I’m just doing research to see if it would be worth it.
This is definitely something to try on a future promotion 💯
My thought process at the time was that the "ads algorithm" would find the best possible audience automatically based on past video data - so that is why I tried to cast the largest net possible.
Let me know how your experiment goes!
You are right.
*Any content creator can contact me for promotion*
Channels also avail.
Found this video/channel through researching YT promotions. I clicked because of title and thumbnail. Real person and subscribed. Cheers
Appreciate it!
I am running a similar campaign, but Restricted to US, Australia and India. That is where my current views are coming. Not form UK or Canada even though they are English speaking. I think UK and Canada Health system is good so they dont bother about my Health videos. I will remove Australai from my future promotions as their watch time is limited. You need to select a Good Video with better Click through rate for promotion.
Yes, this is a good point!
Is most of your traffic coming from India with your setup though? How is the promotion going so far? Are you selling a product or just hoping for subs and views?
What I found odd (Still running promotions) is that my revenue numbers seem to be lower after running these for a week. You would think it would go up with additional views and subscribers?
Which locations are you targeting?
@@_msmagic The country is a factor in RPM. Third world countries (India, Bangladesh, etc.) give less ad revenue than first-world countries (Canada, USA, Australia, etc.)
@@WesGPT😂
Sometimes it takes time before it updates.
It could take about a week before updating.
Gotta remember on how many people are on youtube.
Over a 500 mill or billion or more.
So keep that in mind.
I want to share my experience with this. I had 35 subs. Pretty much flat lined channel, with no real content. Then, I upload one full album of original music with a picture of the album cover as the thumb and video, set the promotion to 100 dollars. I got 4k views and 200 subs. They are watching it. I see over 80 hours of watch time for a 31 minute video. in a week. That's huge to me. So now I threw another 100 at it has been a few days into this extension and it's very similar. I'm up to 310 subs currently.
That's great to hear you got some results! I'm still skeptical they are real though.
As a test, for your next video upload, see how many people watch it. Let us know how it goes 😊
Very cool! Maybe YT Beta could be really helpful for musicians like us. I know I'm seeing good results with YT Beta at the onset too. I'm running a few ads of the same video but changing the country and have observed that the ROI depend highly on the country you target. I'm in USA and in the USA is the cost is approx. $0.80 / sub but in other countries e.g. in Asia and South America it's like $0.10 / sub but I don't know if that's because of the strength of the USD or less competition on those countries. I'm gonna go listen to your music.
@@samsmusichub Oh hey there. I saw you subbed and commented yesterday. Many thanks. I'll sub to you also. I think I only set mine to the US, which is why I'm not getting thousands of subs I suppose comparing to others here. But I'm glad I'm getting any traffic. Seems to be mostly positive too so I hope this grows. I have not ever attempted to gain popularity before as a solo artist on the internet, but I think my new material is strong enough to compete which is why I threw 250 at a promotion. Which ultimately will land me about 500 subs. Hopefully they are real. Cheers
@@WesGPT I totaled 250 in promotion on a single vid. I got about 40 notifications of subs with channels I can actually click on. the rest, no idea if they are real.... The promotion ends tomorrow, then I'll upload a shorter vid to test your theory.
can you give us an update? if you upload a new video with no promotion do you still get a decent returning viewer count?
I've had the exact same experience as yours but on a tiny channel. The new subs I got from promotions they don't exist. They don't watch any content I upload. What's worse, the channel suffered getting recommended, so I'm getting less views overall. I hope my channel gets to recover naturally, but we'll see.
Did any of your old videos get a boost?
I had a theory that the increase in subscribers + watch time would improve your channel AUTHORITY, which should rank you higher in Search.
But yeah, since I stopped, my Browse and Suggested numbers went through the roof. That is what's going to make you grow!
Howdy. Not really. The watched time went up on the vids I promoted, but the other vids didn't see any benefit from it. And as soon as the promotion stopped, they flatlined and haven't gotten any views since several weeks now.
Yeah unfortunately haven't seen an improvement on authority on my end. I did get a natural new sub long after the prmo was done, but that's about it.
I don't think i'll give it another try though. I'm more concerned about what it has done to my channel and to see if it can recover from where it used to be at.
@@WesGPT
@@WesGPTwoohoo, i seen you from browsing
@MotionPictureTrips I'm within you. It feels like it actually hurt my channel - because a few days after I stopped promoting, my videos took off.
And the ones I promoted, have flatlined and never came back...
@BradderzGaming This might be more to do with your watch history than the promotions! I'm guessing you've watching a lot of "RUclips Promotion Beta" content in the past?
Well that clears it all up then haha
Good luck keep battling on
You too 💪
US and Canada. I have noticed all new subscribers are coming over night. Pretty sure it’s bots / employees overseas subscribing. Sure hope not.
Yikes, not good at all. Be careful with it - my channel flatlined after running promotions and then finally started to grow again after stopping.
@@WesGPT I have confirmed subs are only overnight. I started to scale back promotion already and once done will not use again!
In my head it got Ping-pong effect "Should I promote it to get the snowball effect,Or I should keep grinding " I'm aware I need to promote it a little.
Thanks for very useful information. My question is, what is the best cost for a start with promotions ? I was thinking something between 10$ - 20$ for a test run, see what happens and then maybe higher amount based on results from "test run" ?
Do you believe it works for social proof? A lot of people only watch channels with a lot views or subs .
Hello. Thanks for the video.
See i have a channel doing quite good. But for the last month most of views come from brazil which affected my earnings. Back few months ago almost 70% of views were from usa.
So now I am just going to use youtube promotion to get USA views.
What would you suggest bro?
If I use youtube ads will that eventually hurt my channel ??
ive noticed some of my videos every so often (often the ones i spend a day editing) dont get pushed to the feed and end up with 1 view but the videos i put out with less effort do, will this get them on the feed at all?
I don't think so.
Try to improve your CTR, AVD, and keep making videos about the same topic. Eventually, they'll hit!
@@WesGPT weird thing is it’s got 104% watch time, and only likes compared to the usual 80% watch time, I’ll keep experimenting see what works and doesn’t
Hah.... Very interesting sneaky buggers... Thanks for taking the time on this.
No problem, thanks for watching 🙏
My channel is designed for Insurance agents. When I tried promotions for a few months, spent a lot more than you did, I came to the same conclusion. I don't think it helped to pick up any Insurance agents who would want to view my channel.
This is disappointing! Sorry to hear 😔
For another channel I have, I can confirm similar results. We ran promotions for a three days. Nice jump in views and subs, but nearly every view was only about 30 seconds. There is no why someone truly interested and subbing to a channel only watches for 30 seconds. It was every sub and every view. Not sure what is going on with it, but it doesn't seem worth it to get traction with those actually interested in your content.
Which country did you run the promotion for? Have you tried just targeting USA, Canada, Australia, UK, etc.?
@@WesGPTUSA only. Most views were at odd hours, 4-5am EST. Views would spike a couple of hundred hit. Get about 30-40 subs from that. Analytics however showed an average watch time of only 30 seconds. I then ran a couple other USA only promotions on some other videos, and got about the same result. Average watch time was about 30 seconds, a good portion of subs, but nothing beyond that. So my initial conclusion is that it’s simply not worth it, subs seem to be fake or really not interested in your content.
Bingo that's what happened to my sub Channel without running promotions over the last few years it's very telling. I guess a bunch of them found their way on to my channel somehow. I figured something was up so I double checked using RUclips studio. I got a lot of chills on a 75° day. Multiple months wasted keeping up with a bunch of digital individuals. I make a lot of mistakes but I only make each one once
@@libertyranger10yep I fell for that one too. Started night owling sometimes and started uploading during breakfast others at that point in time I wasn't sure where they were coming from and thinking they might be foreign viewers. Then I double checked a few weeks later with RUclips studio. The rest, was history. Not getting out of the intro for a 25-minute old time radio episode repetitively does stick out after all. Then there was the view Count versus the likes or dislikes
@@libertyranger10thank you for commenting pattern recognition is a wonderful thing. Havea nice night and a good weekend.
They are not real subscribers. Sorry. I fell for this too ans so did so many others. It doesn't even count to get monetized either. So if you have under 1000 subs, and you use the promotion to get the 1000 those paid promotion subs won't count.
I'm leaning this way too...
The promotions may have actually HURT my channel because new videos are sending out empty impressions to all of these "fake subscribers," which in turn hurts the CTR.
@@WesGPT im a new channel and it's destroyed mine, i was getting subs and it was going well, then i paid the promotions. Well, i got one sub and my analytics went south. My videos stop being shared and my channel is now stagnant. I know im only two weeks old, but I'm not stupid. I can read stats and know how algorithms work.
@@user-ADHDvids Yeah, this makes sense for what I now know about the RUclips algorithm.
I'll make a video about this point soon on my other channel and link when it's ready!
So you can only promote past 1k subs?
Had you unchecked India as a target country, many bots there.
Good idea!
let's Grow !!
Go get it 💪
Promoted videos kills your average view rate on your videos to 30 seconds. In return the algorithm deeming your videos as unlikely to be watched and not show up organically.
This is what my gut says too - HOWEVER, there seems to be different "algorithms" for paid traffic and organic. So running promotions may not actually hurt your video afterall.
@@WesGPT what does may mean? do we know this or not? this seems really important to know
@@miguelangel-y1cWe don't officially know this.
different channels seem to get different results. i have watched other people that say it helped their channel@@miguelangel-y1c
i spent about $300.. went from 285 to 1900.. but all the subs are random people that seems like bots. I'm ok on getting the subs but I will need to work on content people will rewatch. My channel is travel with information but silent style.
Yeah, I got the same feeling too. Better to build an organic and authentic audience that actually WATCHES your content (imo)
What I can tell is i got a lot of subs actually way more than was normal ... But I i never had veiver from this country waht I noticed too was the hours wached was crazy low. I did for Experimenten on a 1h long live Video of Musik. Before it was 20 min averrage view count now its like 2 min ? So they may not like it ? But then wehre I get all these subs 😅
We think that most of the subs are bots!
how they will see video /? will they see my original description ? where have webinar link ? can i put webinar link in description while doing this beta promotion? PLEASE HELP
It shows your video mostly in Suggested and some in Browse. They will see whichever links you have in your video description.
I so far payed 10 bucks and got 300 subs, which is fine. What I want is get my videos in the top searches to bump it. I just don’t want it to ruin my channel
I found that the subscribers gained from promotions did not help my channel!
So you’re not monetized? Or are you doing this just to grow your channel?
I have been monetized for about 3 months now and originally just used promotions to grow the channel (not sure if it helped or hurt though)
Great, am here first😂
Glad to have you 💯
@@WesGPT does the paid traffic count in being monitized or do you have to rely only on organic views. How will youtube seperate it?
@@ZuluModo So unfortunately, it looks like subscribers gained from the promotion DO count towards monetization, but watch hours DON'T.
And from my experience, it's so much easier to gain subscribers than it is the watch-time.
You'll have to rely on organic views. Are you close to monetizing your channel?
@@WesGPT not close to monetize. Just asking the questions in advance.
@@ZuluModo Good luck with your RUclips channel :)
Seems like a waste of money to me, plus the numbers don't help you reach monetize status.
So the subscribers do but the watch-hours don't. I agree it seems like a waste of money!
My goal is to be able to monetize my channel. Does RUclips count the views from videos that I've placed a google RUclips ad with towards my public watch hours? I have enough subscribers, but need a lot more watch hours. I was hoping to increase the watch hours by featuring a few videos, but the watch hours have not increased. What’s the point if I can’t monetize? Thanks for any info.
Unfortunately, it does not count the watch time towards monetization 😔
@@WesGPT I thought so. Thanks for confirming.
I guess it looks like what you are saying from the numbers but OTOH I don't think google is that stupid. I guess they want this to pick up some ads for them so it feels counter intuitive from their perspective if it's hurting the channels. I don't know if there is a way to select what type of ads you run in this but right now I'm also trying with one video and it's a display ad with low watch time but getting subs around 8-10% like yours (sus??) but I used to get Skippable video ads (Auction) and they had quite good watch time (5mins avg). So I'm also undecided with this tbh but would like to know how to select ad type..
Yeah, this is what my initial thoughts were too.
There is no way to select the ad type unless you run a campaign through the actual Google Ads platform.
That have to be real subs, right? Because of YT ToS. Someone from YT should make a video announcement, but they never do that. If you spend $500 and got 10k REAL subs... that's $0.05 per sub so maybe it's worth it just to increase channel authority and get the algorithm to pick up your videos to recommend them as a result of the activity gained by the ads.
I feel like it should be real subs too, but no one is having that experience! They subscribe to your promoted video (after only watching 30 seconds) and then never watch again.
@@WesGPT which is unfortunate. If people are subscribing but not watching again it's a vanity metric. Maybe it's somewhat beneficial to have the promo for the views to suggest the video more, or to have the increased subscriber count so that new videos potentially get more views. It's all yet to be seen or known! For the low price of each sub - do you think it's better to have them than not have them??
@@samsmusichub Still undecided. I could see it helping in two ways:
1. People are more likely to follow accounts that have more subs (just a human condition)
2. The higher sub account might make your videos appear higher in search results because of Authority? Not sure about this one though.
@@WesGPT #1 is something I didn't think of, that's a good idea! And #2 is something I'm hoping for in using Beta! A couple of my longer form vids that I've used Beta for have been getting more suggested views. My shorts fall short in this area of suggested views, but they seem to get a higher sub / view metric.
Thank you for sharing the information! I tested after watching your previous video and believe that these viewers are real. I promoted one of my shorts, and some people clicked on the end screen and watched my other videos.
Oh really? I wonder if this has changed recently? Might be worth trying again on my side.
Thanks for the info. I think it's a tough call, cause we all wanna speed up the process.
Yep, 100% agree.
I think there's been some upgrades to the Promotions feature, so might try it again soon.

I always knew buying ADS for the chanel is bad for plenty reasons, or youtube give you bots, or they are going to be peoples that will dislike your video from being annoyed. The worst is if you get bots subscribers, then after YT make you fit their standard they remove the subs and your chanel is going to turn all red ;/ I struggle ,but i managed to get 5 real subs, and i'm happy long grind.
EXACTLY! The struggle is real but eventually, the grind will be worth it 💯

same here😥😥
They are doing this on all social media platforms now. Unless you already have a built in audience, no more free views. It's pay to play now on social media.

Great video. Question... I ran ads for a full year and got to 18k subs and 6 millions views but the avarage watch time on 90% of the videos are horrible, 20-30 seconds. I have stopped ads completly and avarge about 40-50 views at the moment. Impressions are slowly growing tho. My question is will my channel be punished because of the avarge watch time and these unactive subs or does it even matter? To my understanding every new video gives you a new chance at growing right? I`m thinking if I keep making better videos and upload more this entire year it will bring the channel back to life? The sats on my latest videos and shorts are much better even if the views are poor. Also in this video you had 13k subs and now you have 52k. Is that organic growth or are you stuck with a lot of ghost subs?
I stopped RUclips promotions and grew organic. And I did exactly what you mentioned - non-stop content for months (actually did a 30 videos in 30 days challenge, which really made the channel take off).
