The Indoor Outdoorsman does it still save money (I know In the long run) to reload 40s&w? I love shooting my 40 but the rounds are very expensive even for the cheeper ones. I’ve payed like .50-.80 cents a shot at a local gun shop.
We didn't see it in the video but I hope you ran the cases through an expander die, which enlarges the mouth of the case so that the bullet will seat properly in the bullet seating phase. It's a step that I do after resizing the case and punching out the spent primers. I also clean the primer pockets to get rid of the residue from the spent primer to ensure the new primer will fit in the primer pocket properly.
enjoyed video. subscribed. i have the same press. i made a case kicker like the one rcbs made for the rock chucker out of a hose clamp. drill three holes and bend one end ,,press mounting bolt on right side to attach to press and you increase your speed. i put a large plastic container under the press on the floor and increase my speed by at least a third. take care.
I have Hogdon CFE Pistol. I got a Lyman book 50th edition but the Lee kit says .5cc is 6.6. Someone said the new spoons are over charging the measure. But I am supposed to follow the instructions like the warnings say.
@@practicallyoutdoors5327 oh wow, I've never been able to do that with pistol calibers. I've always had to use an expander die. Did you taper crimp later, or at least check to make sure that neck tension is sufficient to prevent bullet setback?
Never had an issue with setback. Pistol cases don’t work harden like a rifle case 9mm 40’s and 45’s have a very straight case and the bullets fit snug.
Seth Im using 4.8 g Titegroup powder cci primers and a 180g fmj rn bullet. You may want to test the ammo you make to suit the gun you use/ barrel length. It could make the difference of point 3 - point 5 grains . Hope this helps.
The reloading press was my dads but I had to buy the die set, powder and primers. It starts paying for itself once you reload a couple thousand rounds. But you can reload for half the cost of off the shelf
From the gun show. Georgia ammo kiosk. 125 for 300 winchester primers, 300 180g bullet tips and 300 brass casings cleaned and deprimed on a ziplock bag. The man forgot to sell gun powder. I can't find powder anywhere.
I always decap and resize before tumbling, helps clean the primer pocket out a little more.

@@Jonathan-Hack Online you can get target ammunition for .24 cents/round. I reload for about .15 cents/round.
You are so correct. DUH !
Clean decap then retumble that way not to gunck up the die set

That's what I was waiting oni
I was wondering about that. I'm looking to get into reloading do you have recommendations for a single stage press to start out with?
Maybe he is using new brass. Doesn't need to clean it.
@@pollodormido2 what do you mean?
You mean “belling,” or “flaring”
I am reloading my 40. This weekend. Watching from South African.
I always check shell length and trim if I need to. They will expand when you shoot them. It will change the depth that the bullet seats.
Curious....no flare and no crimp?????
Really good video!!👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you
Thanks for the video
Good video. Thanks very much.
Great video. Thanks..

There may be a difference when using volume measurement vs. Weight measures. Try to research various loading recommendations.
Is defense ammo able to be used as well like can I turn defense ammo into range ammo like fmj
Whou😢have like to see how you set up the dies
Just a basic reload demo. I hand press my .308 rounds carefully. And knock out the plinking rounds 9 mm .40 cal. By the hundreds in the winter.
I notice your bullet seating die doesn't move when seating a bullet. My adjustment knob moves up , but goes down when setting a bullet . Why is this?
MrAwesome glock
I'm using an RCBS seating/crimping die and I only seat and do not crimp
That doesn’t look too expensive. What does a set up like that cost?
The most costly purchase will be the press and reloading dies.
Check your local sports stores for pricing.
Great video...
Just a question i have 40 s&w im charging them at 7.1grains i do t see 4.1 on my list in my book for charging them is this a unlisted recipe you use ?
Different brands of powders require different amounts.
thanks for your video
You didn't flare the cases, or taper crimp??
I find that after resizing the cases are good to go and then I hand press the bullets.

Where can I buy all the tools needed to reload my own ammo?
Ben, you can find everything you need at Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shop, or by ordering online if you can’t get to a store.
Set the decapper depth... it with expand the brass a little to except bullet a little . about 1/8 inch down.Bullet wont tip over...just saying...
What do you pay for the kit is it worth it how much do you say per shell looks like a lot of work

Can you put in a comment the supplies used?
Ohh 😮 watching from Philippines 🇵🇭❤️
what kind of press do u use
It’s an older single stage RCBS JR3
How much does it cost (aside from the tools to do this) for the material to do about 100 bullets?
From the gun show. Georgia ammo kiosk. 125 for 300 winchester primers, 300 180g bullet tips and 300 brass casings cleaned and deprimed on a ziplock bag.

What kinda set up it this ?
I use a RCBS single stage press and a frank ford arsenal powder measure, Hogdon powder and cci primers.
@@practicallyoutdoors5327 appreciate the reply!
CASES
what powder measure do you use?
The video is very dark
How about case mouth
why no expander die???
R M D I find that using a manual press I can set them without crimping. 2 less steps.
