Beautiful aircraft, Chandler. I was an aircraft mechanic with Delta airlines for 32 years. Did a lot of structural work in that time. There's nothing like building, with your hands, on a project like that. One learns the joy and sense of well-being and pride you get from your accomplishment. You may want to read a book entitled; Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance. It's a basic look at the spiritual philosophies that distinguish people who become one with a machine through the joy of knowing and appreciating it, as opposed to people who don't understand the love of machines. It's one of the most read and basic philosophy books, ever written. A story written based on the author's motorcycle trip he took his son on. I read it a couple of times. Also another good read is; Shop Class As Soul Craft. I live in the Atlanta area(Delta's technical base of operation). My oldest son is a graduate of Georgia Tech, Aerospace Engineering. That airplane and you will become best friends, and you'll get to know it's nuances and the intricacies of its flight characteristics and capabilities every time you flight it. It's as much a living breathing thing as you yourself. Both made up of molecules. You'll know without looking at an engine gage, when something isn't quite right in that Lycoming, and you'll feel the flight controls like the extension of your hand and feet they are. That's what REALLY being a seat of the pants pilot is actually about. That term has been thrown around a lot, but when you feel that machine is family, is when you'll realize the most joy from it. Good luck son, from one man and "machine philosopher".
Love the RV14. We're getting ready to build our 14A
Cool that you got this bad boy done while you're still young. Be safe. Have fun.
Beautiful airplane and excellent craftsmanship. A++
EXCELLENT Job, Great skills developed throughout the build. You FINISHED a major project in your early years. "If you don't finish, You get nothing"
Chandler, what a thrill it was to meet you and your people at 1K1 for the ACCA RUclips creators. Thank you so much for the ride in 114AZ. You helped my wife become another step closer to being comfortable flying in small GA planes. Cathy and I hope to get to see you again sometime. Happy flying! Ed.
It was my pleasure! Glad she went up with me and I hope our paths cross again. I’m sure they will! Stay safe, blues skies, and tailwinds!
Besides everything else, it's just a gorgeous aircraft. The paint job is beautiful. You deserve to be proud of your work! Fly safe!
Thank you very much 😊 I am proud of it, just trying to stay humble. You as well! Happy Easter!
Great job, beautiful RV! With that as your HS project you’ve set the bar quite high for the next 80 years. I can’t wait to see what hard earned and well deserved successes the future holds for you.
Thanks you, sir! Ya, I have for sure. But I've got a lot of big plans, dreams, and aspirations that I want to accomplish. Hopefully I can do all of them before I turn 100 haha!
Beautiful plane! Great job. I would love to have a 14A myself!
Thanks a lot!
Awesome job. It took me 6 years to finish high school and I didn’t even build a plane.
Thanks 😊 but you finished, that’s what matters! Keep working hard! Anything is possible!
Chandler Webb thanks for the reply. I was kidding about 6 years of high school, but I didn’t build a plane. You are wise to start this stuff while you’re young. I started flying when I was 20 years old. Then I took a 20 year (to the day) hiatus and earned my private when I was 40. I bought into a plane the following year and I’m SLOWLY working on my instrument rating. I love RVs and have a little time in a 6A and a 10. I’m helping a friend build a 14A. We are currently fitting the canopy. I’d love to contact you from time to time with questions and/or pictures of things. We don’t have any 14s nearby to reference. Anyway, you have a beautiful plane and a great channel. I can’t wait to see where you take both.
Well, my dad is wise and I’m blessed beyond imagination. But I’ll take the compliment, thank you! My instrument rating was the most challenging thing I’ve done in aviation yet! And because I’ve gotten it behind me, it’s now one of my all time fav things to do! And for sure! Just friend me on Facebook and we can message and call from there! I’m happy to help! Where are you based out of? I’ve got some pretty awesome places in mind to take Wilbur that I’m excited to share with everyone, so stay tuned for sure!
Chandler Webb I’ll look you up on Facebook. We are based in Santa Maria, CA (SMX). This whole area is a beautiful place to fly, right on the coast. Come on out. Lunch is on me!
Kevin 16587 ok I’m in! I’m actually going up to Oregon next week and will be there for a couple weeks. On the way back as my fuel stop I’d love to take you up on that offer!
Well here I am. I met you this weekend 7/17 at Benton Ks ACCA fly-in. Thought I’d give you a shout young man; good to see a based and motivated young man living the dream. Blue skies fly boy. 👍
Thank you so much means a lot! So nice meeting you.
Looks Great!
Thats a nice plane, and a very accomplished young man.
Thanks means a lot! Make sure to subscribe to follow along!
That’s Wonderful
Absolutely fantastic! Very inspirational. I've always wanted to build... and to see you do it at your age is really awesome! Congratulations!
Thank you very much! That’s the whole point of the channel is inspiration and motivation!
Congrats
Awesome job Chandler! The plane looks amazing. Happy flying.
Thanks man! You need to come fly it!
If that’s your high school project, you have a bright future ahead. Nicely done.
I’ve got a lot of dreams, goals, and aspirations for sure! Just want to inspire everyone to reach for the stars and think and be outside the box! Life is too short to waste a single minute!
Nice plane.
Beautiful! I hope to meet Wilbur someday.
Stop by Safford sometime and we’ll go fly! Or I’ll fly to you, I need flight time haha
Beautiful build. That RV has some muscle. Takeoff and climb out must be very empowering.
Thank you! It does indeed! Never too much power in an airplane though 😉
Nice job on the build! Grab the cameras and lets go flying.
That’s coming your way shortly!
Great lines to the plane. Have fun.
Thank you! We had a fantastic guy who stayed with us all day to stripe it and get it laid out. Jetcrafters over in Safford. Check him out!
Excellent work! Enjoy it with plenty of Grins!
Thanks! Every single time I fly I’ve got the grin haha, it’s very real!
Almost without question the biggest single challenge of building an airplane is PAYING for it.
Sadly......not everyone has such a generous gift from their parents and go many decades just dreaming of this.
Chandler, it is a great airplane. Your dad took me for a little flight before it was painted when he was in KTYL. LOVED it! It perfomed amazing.
Building the -14 is on my bucket list... someday.
Oh cool! It’s about 5 knots faster with the paint on it! Let me know when you’re getting started and I’ll give you some pointers and help where’re I can!
@@chandlerwebb2723 Will do!
Great video. Very interested in building one myself out here in AZ !
You should!
Love the paint job!!!!
Hey thank you! It still gets me when I look at it haha :) we’re very pleased
"El Cheapo" Love your bird!!
Haha thanks and thanks for watching!
NIicely done.
Outstanding Chandler. I'm about to finish the empennage (RV-14). I laughed at your bit on the rudder. I did exactly the same thing on two of the stiffeners. Just lucky I didn't do the whole rudder as postage to Australia is a killer. Well done Mate.
Wow ya, good catch! I messed that one up pretty bad. But, learned a valuable lesson learned!
Take one of the engine next annual !
We Will have to!
Awesome job! I'm proud of you and I don't even know you! Aviation is lucky to have you.
Thank ya much! I’m lucky to have aviation in my life!
What an amazing airplane with such a cool paint scheme. I love how you are so nonchalant about it all. You have incredible skills and such an eye for what is cool. And one heck of a Pilot too. Wilbur looks even better in person, if that is possible. Thanks for sharing Chandler.
The airplane is incredible. Super stoked to get yours in the air in the future! Thanks, really appreciate the support!
Congrats! Lovely plane.
Thank you!
Great Job, I'm looking to start building my RV 14a soon as well.
Awesome! They go together really well!
Congrats ! buddy you have done a fabulous job.
Thanks 👍
Nice work. Thanks
Thank YOU!!
Good job, keep working and learning and never be an employee for longer than you need to be.
That’s the plan! Thanks for watching!
Great job! Love your RV-14A!
Thank ya sir!
Beautiful! Congrats!
Looks really good
She's gorgeous
Outstanding!
Awesome job. Beautiful
Thank ya much!
Awesome job 👏
Thank you!
Wow.. .🖼🛵🇵🇭
Congrats. Plane looks awesome. I’m thinking about starting up my own RV14 build.
Thanks! Go for it!
Looks a little like the Southwest Airlines Arizona One plane.
Good job, just had the opportunity to recently fly a RV-12, AWSOME plane!!!!
I’m contemplating opening a flight school and the -12 is what I would as my trainer. All the RVs are AWESOME!!
Chandler Webb
Well I was impressed, flew rock solid!!
You should fly in this -14 sometime so you have something to compare it to 😉
Chandler Webb
When you bringing it to Kansas??
What’s your identifier?? I’ll plan a trip!
Nice!!
It looks super good!
Much appreciated!
Wow! Its amazing😍
Thanks! Lots of work and lots of fun!
Nice Paint
Thanks! We had Jetcrafters at the Safford Airport do it for us
Now I need to look if you have a video on the performance
More of the plane and what it can do is coming soon! Stay tuned!
Looks great Chandler! Love the paint! What’s TAS are you seeing at cruise? How’s she roll?😀
Thanks! We’re seeing about 165 TAS now with the paint!
Beautiful work Chandler. Is that the same 14 your dad and I flew to copperstate?
Thanks! Ummm I have no idea, but if you flew in a -14 my dad was flying then yes, yes it is haha
Awesome paint job! Where are you living these days? Do you come through Safford often?
Thanks! Living in St. David I’m in safford everyday except weekends though :)
Awesome job! If you don't mind me asking, how many hours would you work on this each day / week?
So I worked 1.5-2 hours M-F, then usually 6-8 hours on Saturday. I was in high school and had other stuff come up so that schedule wasn’t 100% rigid obviously, but I stuck to it pretty well!
Amazing! Did you do the quickbuild route for some of the kits?
No sir, standard build for all of it. I drilled, deburred, dimpled, and riveted everything :)
So its Sept/2021 how is it working out Chandler? Excellent job, beautiful paint, congrads. So have you been flying the hell out of it ???
Soooo my dad flies it dang near everyday. Got airworthiness cert in April 2019 and now has over 600 hours on it. So ya, I’d say we have. It’s taken us from AZ to WA to FL and a lot of stuff in between. AWESOME machine!
7:33 Nice helicopter.
Haha ya, pretty cool
Beautiful airplane, well done. Just out of curiosity, what kind of heli is Dory?
Thanks! Dory is a Kaman K-1200
Chandler, I 'm starting my RV14A build and really like how you outfitted your aircraft and planning the same type set up. I'm very curious about which IO-360 engine you used. I understand obviously needs to be angle valve, however, the prop governor needs to be mounted forward left. Curious if you bought new or found one and had overhauled? Thanks
Amazing! Really making me want to do this for my high school project. May I ask how you funded this project? Did you get it sponsored? Is there a way I can contact you about learning more about this project and how I would do this through high school?
Hey Evan! So my dad was the one that funded it as he was wanting the airplane once it was completed. Depending on where you live, there may be a local teen flight program that you could join!
@@chandlerwebb2723 thank you!
Hi Mate. Does awesome job. Quick question does this plane has removable wings like RV12? Thanks
Thank you! They’re removable, but not like the -12 with the two big pins. The -14 is designed for aerobatics so its wing spars are bolted to the center section with 8 big bolts on either side of the center section.
I wish my parents were rich like yours.
How’s the temp in the cockpit?
That's a great paint work. I'm actually thinking about building that model but the one with the tail wheel. Which part of the airplane (kit) do you recommend starting with?
Thanks! It was painted by Jetcrafters based in Safford, AZ. Start with the tailcone/empennage kit from Van’s Aircraft! That’s what comes first along with the plans :)
Chandler Webb Thanks! Another question I have is: do you think is possible to build it and once it’s certified to fly, use it to hire a fly instructor to get my flying hours as part of my private pilot training? Or do I have to go to aviation school for that? Thanks for your help!
You can build it and get trained in it!
How much did the entire project cost?
Would you build this again?
I am building it again! Except the one I’m workin on now is tail dragger this time 😉 LOVE these planes both building and flying!
Question. Why did it take 4 years? I’m really into VANS AIRCRAFT and wanted to build one in the future.
Can it be built in faster than 4 years?
It took four years because I only worked for about 1 1/2-2 hours after school everyday in high school. And I was also working on four other airplanes throughout this build. It can be done much faster than 4 years if you’ve got the time and money to invest in all the kits, engine, prop, avionics, and so on. That’s what I do now for Arizona Sport Planes
Dude! Awesome build! I'd love to build an airplane one day as well. Where in Arizona are you based?
Thanks! It’s basically just a more intense LEGO set haha...Benson and Safford. Mostly Safford (KSAD).
@@chandlerwebb2723 Oh if its anything like LEGOs then it is right down my alley! It's good to find someone else my age who has a similar passion to building and fly! I'm working on my instrument up at Falcon airfield in Phoenix (KFFZ). I'd love to come check out your build or if your ever up at falcon maybe we could go flying together and you could teach me a few of your tricks. Or maybe we could cross country it up to Utah and check out Mike Patey's Scrappy!
Michael Spetter I grew up on legos and attribute much of being able to build to learning on legos haha...ya man I’m always down. Go friend me on Facebook and we can get something worked out!
how did you found that project?
I had been working an old school skilled craftsman that’s been building RV’s for decades. He taught me how and so my dad and I decided we wanted to build our own and so we did! This is the result!
How much $$ do you have in it total? Sorry for the rude question. Beautiful Plane!
Friend me on Facebook and we can private message :) but thanks!
HI. What type of high school job did you, and what type of job can I do, that allowed you to afford to build a airplane??
Building this was my high school job!
He was born with a high iq because iq is genetic. If you're parents aren't high iq be mad at your creator. My kids will benefit from 18,000,000 of my high iq benefits. Besos
What kind of numbers are you getting out of that beautiful bird? Great job.
As far as speeds?? So we used to be consistently getting 150-155 true airspeed. Now we’re consistently seeing 155-160+ true airspeed so I think we actually gained 5 knots or more from the paint! Plus the 220 horses helps with that!
Awesome! That will get you places in a hurry. And probably still 9.5 GPH? Climb rates?
9.5 GPS? I usually climb out at 110-130 and get 900-1200 feet per minute climb.
@@chandlerwebb2723 sorry I missed that, GPH.....😁
Love to fly Love to fly I haven’t taken a long, high cross country in it yet. But we typically see less than 10 GPH in cruise. Next weeks vid will show all of that stuff!
Why does it say experimental on the inside?
Because it's cooler than other airplanes.
(The real answer): Because Chandler built it himself it is registered as an "Experimental - Amatuer Built" aircraft. As part of the requirements of that category he has to have the "EXPERIMENTAL" placard visible in the airplane. It's not actually an 'experimental' airplane that is just what they decided to call that category.
BTW it IS actually cooler than other airplanes :D
Haha what John said! 😂 it’s just the law that requires that to be displayed from the outside of the aircraft. But yes, it is WAY cooler and WAY better than “certified” airplanes :)
@@chandlerwebb2723 that's cool!
