- Kalyana Rasam is a Rasam usually served in the Tamil Brahmin Marriages as part of the feast. It tastes delicious with the right balance of tangy, spice and sweet. INGREDIENTS
1 small gooseberry size Tamarind
3 nos. Tomato medium size
2 tbsp Toor Dal (Pigeon pea)
1 tsp Salt (adjust to your taste)
1 sprig Curry Leaves
1 pinch Asafoetida (Asafetida / Hing)
1 handful Coriander Leaves chopped
INGREDIENTS FOR GRINDING
1 tsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
2 tsp Coriander seeds
2 tsp Toor Dal (Pigeon pea)
1 tsp Peppercorns
1 nos. Red Chili (adjust to your spice level)
½ tsp Cumin Seeds
INGREDIENT FOR TEMPERING
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Ghee
Sowmya mam

I tried this so many times. Came really with awesome taste. I searced in the you tube. But others are making kalyana rasam with garlic, which i wont prefer, since we wont use garlic regularly, i never tried. This is the same method which i used to prepare. Thank you!!

One thing I liked about this rasam is while frying the dry ingredients you did not fry jeera , instead you added raw jeera to the mixture..Jeera gives a different taste when fried , but if the same jeera is raw it imparts a delicious taste to the dish..I t was just like how my mother used to prepare , advising me not to fry jeera for southindian dishes... thanks.

How many cups of rasam will these ingredients make? Can remaining rasam b kept in fridge & used later.
We will get approximately 5 cups of rasam. We can keep in fridge and consume later. But since we add cooked dal, it will be good only for 2-3 days if refrigerated.

Hi Subbu, if I’m making this rasam along with your sides of potato and kootu for a guest how much cooked rice should I serve ? Can you please suggest in measure of cups for cooked white basmati rice? Thank you
Only for 1 person i would say 1 cup of basmati rice is enough. If we plan for 5 people, I usually keep 2.5 cups basmati rice.
