My Great Grandparents, Grandparents, and my father are buried in Shattuck's Grove Cemetery. In the video, you can see all of my family's stones. As a young girl, I visited Shattuck's Grove Cemetery often. My family's stone is the obelisk with the "B" at the top, across from the baby's mort-safe. On the stone inside the mort safe was inscribed "Our Littlest Treasure". My sister and I used to read it each time we visited. Sadly the inscription has worn away. Shattuck's grove truly is a beautiful place.

I'm wondering if those ornaments that you showed on the side of the cage, were a sort of bell that would ring if somebody tried to bypass the cage, and send them off running. At one time, they could have been loud before erosion took over. Just a thought.....

Graves did have Bell's on them back then, and earlier in the Centries before. But I think it was due to, people being burried alive. A lot of times hundred's of years ago. They would assume someone was dead, because maybe of shallow breathing or something. When they weren't sure if someone was dead, they would put a bell on the grave, so if the person woke up, and they really weren't dead. They could ring the bell, so that they could be dug up! Crazy but it was true! Catalepsy was a illness, that sent people to the morgue, when they were really alive. Because it made doctors think the person was dead, when they were very much alive. Today if you have that, you have to wear a bracelet at all times, so people will know!

There are a lot of mortsafes in Scotland, home of Burke and Hare. Sometimes family members would take turns guarding a grave until the body would have decomposed enough that it would have been useless to the resurrection men. I have never seen a mortsafe in western Canada but there might be some down east where older cemeteries can be found.

Next time you are in Minnesota you might want to check out a mass grave in the SW part of the state with a huge memorial. During the “Great Sioux Uprising of 1862” several homestead families were almost completely wiped out. The Indian Agent on the reservation was starving the Indians. This caused some younger Indians to rise. The saddest thing is that after it was all over the army rounded up about 100 men from the reservation. These men were still on the reservation because they didn’t kill anyone. President Lincoln signed a death warrant for all of them resulting in the largest mass execution in this countries history.

When I was chatting with everyone, there was a problem escalating that had absolutely nothing to do with you. Ron helped me address it during the premier. I have absolutely no idea why you thought my remarks was about you and yet it had nothing to do with you at all hun.
I don't want to get into that discussion again as it caused problems and I ended up having many Subscribers during chat and Ron later when he could see his screen later who backed me up. It ended up with a Subscriber being removed unfortunately in which I hated to do after I warned that person a few times. Anyways you obviously thought it was about you and it was not. You replied things got weird in chat but it did not, you may of missed the full conversation. But I wanted to rest assure that it had absolutely nothing to do with you. I had to focus on chat to resolve the problem as Ron could not see his screen well with the sunlight while walking around. So please be rest assured, the issue was not with you. Most welcome, I have enjoyed watching your channel, and glad that you were directed there. I have never seen one until I was at Shattuck cemetery, and I believed it was a rather unique find when I discovered the grave. If you are ever near Winnebago cnty, there is the tomb of Magill McCormick that is quite interesting as well. If you ever need any info, I am always very willing to assist as much info for Boone, Winnebago, DeKalb, and Ogle counties. Thanks for sharing, and for the shootout. Will be looking forward for more videos here in the future.

@@FacesoftheForgotten Yes, that is correct, I have been to McCormick s tomb, McCormick is no longer in the tomb and has been relocated to the cemetery. The location is on Montigue rd, just off of Route 20 in Winnebago cnty. No, the name is fine, it is actually my pseudo name as I took it from my grandfather would say that a fool is a Jackanapes....ha ha. Thank you for your interest, and conversation, and I will get over and follow on Instagram.

But less we forget that if it wasn't for the 17th 18th century grave robbing for medical persons there wouldn't be half the knowledge or treatments there are today ... So out of bad comes good ..... Its all a part of history and we need to apriciate that these things happen for the greater good in the end ..... There's always positives and negatives we need to make sure both are being mentioned :)

Hey Ron! You might have already tried or heard of doing this. Try spraying the hard to read ones with a spray bottle of water, I'm pretty sure it will help the letters to be more clear without harming the headstone. I know you've already got a lot to carry around! Although sometimes sad and tragic, I enjoy your videos and the history 👍

I remember reading about a gallows victim somewhere in England (sorry, can’t remember where) on the dissection table who wasn’t dead and regained consciousness when cut. The surgeon, in front of all the students, hit him on the head with a mallet several times and killed him! Now, how does it go? Oh, yes, I remember, “first do no harm”. What a @#*%*¥!

I was thinking the same thing too. They're grave robbers and that's it. They're evil criminals, men who tamper with those who are laid to rest. if Christians, these ones are waiting for the resurrection......

When you get out here to AZ, Ron, there are 2 old cemeteries in Central Arizona. One is Adamsville, close to Florence and the Pinal up toward Superior. Wyatt Earp's wife is buried in the Pinal Cemetery. Thought I would give you a heads-up on these old ones. I will be living outside of Florence and both are pretty close to us. Great video Ron!

So how are graveyards financed for the grounds keeping? Is it the initial cost of internment that amortizes forever? Is the labor donated? Is it newer grave plots sold that finance the older plots?

@ the South end of the town I grew up n are 3 cemeteries. The oldest one I went to as a child to help my Dad top out some trees that were becoming over grown/dangerous & of course being a child I was curious about death/cemeteries ect. So I got ta looking around & noticed @ the very back of the cemetery there was a small grave that had red bars around it. There is no headstone just red bars & the grave is about 2ft long. I asked my Grandfather about the grave bc he has been the head of the cemetery board since I can remember. All he would tell me even today is that he believes it is a small child & possibly a child of color. That back then all black ppl buried n the cemeteries were buried n the back but when I ask him about the red bars surrounding the small grave he says he doesn't know Y someone put it around the grave, that maybe they did that bc there isn't a headstone & wanted to make sure that the resting place was marked somehow so that they could always find'em when they came back to visit the grave. 🤷‍♀️
Still to this day, being 45 yrs old now...I still have always wondered bout that grave & Y there isn't a headstone & Y there is red bars around it.
Would u happen to have any ideas??? I'm all ears👂
