Here’s an interesting fact. Although hitler was initially upset that Jesse Owens was outperforming the German athletes, he actually shook hands with Owens, congratulated him, and even sent him a commemorative photo of himself. Ironically FDR didn’t even acknowledge Owens’ achievements. In Germany Owens was even able to stay in the same hotels as whites. One of the few times hitler showed greater class than franklin Roosevelt.
Lamont At Large well, it is rather hard to believe that African Americans were treated better in pre-war nazi Germany than they were At home. I took a class long ago on African Americans and foreign affairs during that time period and many of them believed that America with its segregation and Britain with its colonialism were really not much different from the fascists. The African American “double V” campaign during the war concentrated on victory against fascism at home and abroad.
I remember as a kid I was terrified of the cemetery. My g/mother always said there’s nothing to fear of the dead, it’s the living you have to worry about. How very true that statement is. Thank you Lamont for caring about these poor souls. Love your videos, never stop doing them. New sub, you had me hooked from first video I watched.
When I was 15, I was given a motorcycle by my parents, I got my license: when bad things were happening and I didn't think I could get through another second of life, I'd get on my bike and ride out to the country, to an old family cemetery, I would scream until I was hoarse and cried till I had no tears left to shed. Cemeteries have always felt comforting to me. Thank you, Lamont, for saying what you said about Cemeteries!!!
I used to live near a cemetery and every morning as I walked to work I'd read some of the headstones and wondered how they died, but never actually entered as I was afraid I'd get kicked out. Thanks to you, Lamont, I am now comforted in the thought that there are people like me who find cemeteries to be fascinating places.
Hey, Lamont, I first moved to Chgo. in 1965, retired from CTA transit job. Chgo. is no longer the city it was. Now it’s a # 1 murder city in the nation, as you report, the people at this particular cemetery were gunned, people and children are being gunned down on the west & south side of this city while you were reporting, and while I’m writing this now. That’s what has become of this worldwide popular city, from the days of Speck, Gacy, and many more. If the politics of this corrupt city are not changed the bloodshed will continue to increase, trust me, I’m 65 now, and I just pass through that city once in a while. 3 of my kids still reside there, another 1 in Henderson NV, last one here in Europe, where I’m at now temp. visiting. Thanks for the great videos Lamont, keep em coming, your fan, Roland.
Some of the headstones are so unique and beautiful!! I really love when graveyards allows for all kinds of different styles and sizes, it brings life to a person, to see special mementos engraved into the stone. Very neat. Thank you for bringing us on your adventures. 💜🙏
It's called Taphophilia. I also enjoy reading tombstones and wandering around a cemetery wondering what these people lives were like. It's definitely not weird. Great job Lamont
Thank you Lamont! I love your chanel. It's not weird to go to cemeteries. Many times it's learning history. It's always sobering and makes one grateful to appreciate the gift of life. This particular posting was definately educational and heartbreaking. So many young people dying especially young black men losing their lives on the streets to gun violence. You are educating people.
All my life I was told how weird I am. When I found your videos Lamont you made me feel like I have a "place" of interest if you will, to fit in. Here are these people who once lived. I wondered who they were in life and how they came to end. Thank you for this!!!
I’ve spent much time in that very cemetery back in the 80’s, my husband RIP, must thought I was crazy, didn’t want to go to the movies or mall, he always took me there by request. I particularly love the very old part of the cemetery way in the back , it’s so old the the stones till upon one another, check it out one day . I really enjoyed this journey with you, thanks for sharing.
The older part is close to where I lived. My Godmother lived on that side and we lived across the street. I was most interested in the older graves as well.
Hi Lamont... I enjoy following you here. I'm a retired pastor and a disabled Vietnam veteran (age 73). You have the gift of compassion for people. At comes across in every video you post. Peace Out. Always Looking Up, Bob
My grandfather goes to the cemetery every weekend to see my uncle. He always re-paints my uncles headstone and trims the grass around it. I’ve always knew this to be normal. It was never a question why? So when I hear other people who don’t even visit their loved ones Judge me for walking around cemeteries and paying my respects to the deceased. It leaves me scratching my head. I recently found your channel and I love what you’re doing! You got a new sub.💜
I appreciate that you mentioned that you take some of us along with you if we can't travel on our own, thank you. I have a tale you will enjoy about my excursion to one cemetery a few years back with my elderly mother. By the way, she would love your channel. Anyway, her brother had died from scarlet fever when he was 12 and she was 14. Like most siblings, they argued and we often nasty to one another. On one of my visits to her when she was in her 80's, she was talking about him whose nickname was "Bobbie" because he resembled the Buster Brown shoe ad featuring "Bobbie." While talking to me about Bobbie she shared that a few days before he got sick and then died quickly, she told him she hated him. Mom said that had haunted her all her life that those were the last words she said to him. She was not able to see him because she could be exposed to his illness. She could not remember where he was buried, but knew it was called Irish Ridge Cemetery -- so I researched and me and my sister too drove her to this huge cemetery to find his grave. It was a hot summer day around the anniversary of his death, so I parked her in her wheelchair in the shade. My older sister, having lived her life helping “raise me” and, in the process, telling me what to do, lol, was attempting to give me instructions on which direction to go. So, as she and I set off looking for his grave she went in one direction and I went in another. Somehow from the moment I set out, I was able to go in the correct direction and found the grave in moments. I don’t know why, but I knew exactly where to look. It felt as though I was being guided and somehow knew exactly where he was. To this day, I feel Bobbie wanted to see his sissie and led me right to his grave. I ran back, got mom and she was able to visit him for the first time in nearly 70 years and apologize for the last words she spoke to him. I will always believe that Uncle Bobbie led me to his grave -- I'm not a great believer in after-life but I hope one day I can meet him and ask if that was really him that led me to him!
When my children were very small, I took them to cemeteries and we would walk around and I would read the inscriptions to them and if there were photos on the grave stones, we would discuss the people and try to imagine how they were when they were alive. There is nothing creepy or unnatural about the feeling of peacefulness found in cemeteries. It is good to teach our children if our own mortality and to not fear death. I am glad your channel popped up in my suggestions. I enjoy them.
Being my little sisters father figure since dad died, I found myself being the one too explain death too them. I told them both the same thing. "Death is nothing too be scared of. If there is nothingness, then it won't matter because we won't even know it. If there is any kind of afterlife, then we will get too meet our loved ones on the other side. All you need too worry about in life is being a good person, and in death that is what people will remember of you".
Have been visiting cemeteries for eons. My mother loved going to cemeteries up until 3 months after her 90th birthday. Love watching your videos and I am one of the 'weird' people. 👍👍😎
I thought I was special! I lived 2nd floor on 67th street directly across from Oakwood! I have a 7 yr old nephew there. I loved to walk in Oakwood, did it often. Peaceful. Every night I stood in the window and prayed for the souls. I recently moved to Texas and that's 1 thing I missed. Thanks for this special video!
It isn't weird at all going to cemeteries, I love visiting and reading the headstones, and I especially love mausoleums, keep up the good work, we love you 😊💙⛵🐕😉
I used to love to go to the cemeteries around where I live.. Especially historic ones.. I live near Nashville.. My Mom, Dad and Husband are buried right next to each other. My Mama died first. I couldn't go to her grave without have an overwhelming feeling of falling to my knees and digging her up out of there. Same with Daddy and my Husband. I do t go to their graves any more. I can't go to any cemetery anymore. Just thinking about it that feeling begins. I really wish I had had my husband cremated. So thank you for doing what you do. I especially thank you for telling us about people who had lived a good life and did not die a violent death. God Bless You!! Honey how can you afford to do this without donations? I couldn't do much but I like to contribute when I can.
Perfect explanation of what I feel when I visit cemetery's. " Odd Solitude " describes it perfectly. Occasionally, I tape rice paper to unique headstones and use charcoal to make rubbings. A little spray of hairspray to set them and framed....They make the most scared and beautiful in honor of all that have been loved and missed forever...
I very much like what you do i have had 3 cancerns i am still i do enjoy watching you god bless you may god be with you watch over you keep you safe i am 60 years old love hear hearts of people that do care bless you
Lamont you do a fine job. For me to go to a cemetery is a very peaceful place. Also it helps me to reflect on the very dear family and friends of memories the nobody can take from me. Keep reflecting my friend . You do I fine job of keeping the memories in our minds and in our hearts. Thank you sir
I read up more about Tyjuan Poindexter....I was curious about the wrestling belt he had on his grave. Here's what his mother talked about... He loved everybody," she said. "Every time when I'm down, he says, 'Hey, Mom, what can I do?' " In his spare time, he would draw designs for custom gym shoes. And he was obsessed with wrestling, she said, especially Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Crystal, I feel terrible for this young man's mother in loosing her son, all the protection was not enough to save him. Heavenly Father I pray for this young man's mother and family I also pray for your Devine wisdom and guidance. Amen.
Sometimes whats going to happen is going to happen no matter what we do. I believe his Mom tried her best to keep him alive as long as she could! Sounds like a great Mom and a wonderful son. Sorry for her pain.
Hi Lamont i love watching your videos i enjoy going to cemeteries and looking at the graves it is so nice to be able to hear you comment and give info on the people that are buried there it is very interesting to me and you a very nice on the eyes as well very handsome keep on doing what you do Love From Johannesburg South Africa💝💝💝
I love what you do. Cemeteries are so peaceful to me. I visit my grandmother quite often and sit there or walk around visiting her neighbors. I'm glad you do this. Love your videos.
Lamont, so glad I caught this vid today. Such beautiful monuments! So glad to see the grave of Jesse Owens always a hero of mine. I know you are taking off tomorrow. Stay safe & I will be waiting to see your new work again soon! Thanks so much!
No, it is most definitely not weird. I have been fascinated with cemeteries since childhood, and the older the cemetery the better. Though I am not disabled, I do have certain physical issues, which keep me from exploring the way I used to. I enjoy your tours, Lamont. Keep up the good work.
Especially enjoy your videos. Just discovered you. I love when you are able to give a backstory on some headstone/memorial. I enjoy what you do, but yet am torn up when going to my own families' graves. I miss my people so much...
I think what you do is great. I find cemetarys are a great place to learn about people and history. I fix flowers, straighten flags.. I love your blogs.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO YOU! THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER TRIP. I CAN IMAGINE ALL THE ONES THEREAND WHEREVER YOU VISIT, THEY ENJOY YOUR COMPANY! God bless and have a safe journey.🙏👍🇺🇸
Some folks, including family, think I'm morbid, because of my love of cemeteries. I'm even planning to do a scrapbook of unique and interesting ones, I've seen online and in person. I love and look forward to watching your videos. Thank You for taking the time to share them.
I enjoyed the song by Otis Clay. Thanks for turning me on to another fabulous gospel singer. Stay warm. Did you know that loads of little towns have yarn and knitting shops. You can often drop in and the ladies in the community will get together and make you a pancho or blanket out of their scraps. They love to warm up a fellow who is struggling to stay warn.
I am new to your channel and I have watched a three of your vids back to back - enjoyed every moment looking forward to your live stream - thank you so much for sharing ✌🏼❤️
Jesse was the greatest athlete one true athlete , no drugs just pure guts and glory, America should keep talking about this great man over the dinner table, we were taught about Jesse in school here in Australia 🇦🇺 and I’ve watched the videos of him racing in the olympics over and over ,what a great man ,take that Adolph, he was a better man than you would ever be RIP.
Thank you Lamont, I am disabled I have kidney disease! I am a retired nurse and I love your videos, keep making them please! I enjoy your honest comments ! Best wishes to you!
thank you Lamont for your videos! I love hearing the stories about the people who have passed. And I love seeing the history. it's amazing when I see dates from the 1800's and possibly earlier. it's amazing to know there were people alive back then. the one grave in this video from Jacobi David Michael Henry. it reads "you're the worst." I wonder what the meaning was?
I had to come back to give you a little info about my mom Mrs Charity Winfield and her Grandson Mr Rufus Winfield.she was a great cook, love quilting , Canning and sewing making clothes name it she could do it she was born in Parkins Arkansas she Picked cotton in the south up until she left. She tole me that they Paid her 35cent a day and if she saved it til the end of the week she would have to get some one with a wagon to bring her groceries home.everything was real cheap this was in the twenties.a very hard working woman and best mother .nephew come here in the seventies got a job and moved on another hard worker up til his death.much more to the whole story but must cut it short.he was a good father. Bless all .Mrs P
I love cemetaries and always have, l follow you dear Lamont, l am old now, and l just thank God for you, you are an awesome man, and l love you as much as my grandkids, you are like my grandson. Be safe
I love your channel I find it very interesting an as for checking out cemetery's I honestly think their the most peaceful place you can go to unwind ,, im Julie watching from south Wales 🏴 uk xx
My husband and I would go to cemeteries all the time. I don't find this odd at all.. He's now with our heavenly father.. dear man of 43 years of marriage. You're just doing something I used to do.. Especially when I would find lost family..
Another great video Of Great Americans It's amazing the uncertainty of Life The number of relatively Young that have passed is staggering, Jessie Owens will no doubt be remembered Indefinitely 1936 the Year of My Sweet Mothers Birth She is still Living just turned 85 , Lamont I too enjoy the Cemetery visits , I've even layed down on my own plot at Sunset Memory was quite comfortable and very very Peaceful , I already own it why not...LOL IF people didn't think harsh of Me I'd get a box of Bojangles and have lunch there too !
We want to know more about you and your story. How about a Q & A. Where did you grow up? What do you like to do outside of graveyards and crime scenes? You're a good guy. You are appreciated!
I am new to your channel and enjoy your videos. Some people think it’s morbid, or you shouldn't be doing what you are doing. I disagree entirely for the reasons you state and the fact that most cemetery are public places. Families have these impressive grave markers or tombstones, which we call them in my part of the world, as a remembrance and for others to enjoy them. If family disagree then they should not do this and then their love ones will go unnoticed. So why do people click the dislike button is beyond me. If it isn't for you then go and find something, you are interested in as 14k subs thinks it’s a good channel.
Hi Lamont as kids the family would take drives to south Jersey to peach farms and tomato farms and visit their friends in a cemetery there crazy thing was we'd have a picnic on the ground next to their stone! People passing by gave us weird looks😆
Hey Lamont, my name is Mara and have enjoyed your videos, u always hit the ones that really should be visited. Everyone of your videos are great and you give alot of info about the video. Keep the good work up...
I think your great at what you do. I enjoy watching your videos I find them interesting. Keep up with the videos. You should do some more famous ones . I think its cool at what you do.
I love your show on here. I am sorry I don’t usually comment or anything because I’m usually watching you on my tv . Binge watching lol. Keep up the good work. I love to go to cemeteries, there is nothing wrong with it. There is more history there than you can find in a book.
So sad about all their lives lost! Tyjuan hit hard she really loved her son. The one time she let him go he gets killed I can't even imagine the pain 😢😭 so very sad. I have 3 teenage daughters I tell them if mom gets a feeling please listen we only Do it because we love you. Not to be mean 😔 thanks for sharing 😇🙏 God bless

Alex tepe they weren’t I lived in Germany and even now there is a huge amount of racism
H. Was from Austria.
Never mind.
I like the graves in the states. In Germany they remove graves after 40 years and but the next one on top😕

They are not poor souls. You have to have some money to be buried there and to afford those markers.
Your grandmother was right
My mother said the same .. Boy how 🤔 True it is !!!
My mom said the same thing to.
My grandmother said the same thing. The Dead can't hurt you but the living can
I suddenly feel kinda "normal" in knowing there is another soul out there who also loves exploring cemeteries. Keep up the good work.

Such a shame that so many mostly young men lost their lives due to gun violence.
Charlotte, it wasn't "gun violence" that killed these young men it was "human violence" it was one human that had no regard of human life.

Thank you for that information, it sounds like he was a very special young man...
@RazorbladeRomance She did her best in protecting her son,it really shows what a wonderful mother she is...
Sometimes whats going to happen is going to happen no matter what we do. I believe his Mom tried her best to keep him alive as long as she could! Sounds like a great Mom and a wonderful son. Sorry for her pain.
Love it i enjoy knowing about the person who is no longer on this earth. Thank you Lamont At Large keep doing what your doing. Inspirational to me.

I love what you do. Cemeteries are so peaceful to me. I visit my grandmother quite often and sit there or walk around visiting her neighbors. I'm glad you do this. Love your videos.
There's absolutely nothing weird about visiting the departed. I think it's beautiful and I appreciate this footage.
My name is Shirley, and I am 71 years old- a stroke survivor. Thank you for caring.
Thanks for what you do. I love the historical places and stories. You are amazing
Awesome job Lamont. Really enjoy your videos. Many thanks from Lee From Wales in the UK 👍🏻👍🏻🏴🏴🏴
Thanks for sharing Lamont! 🙂 Stay safe out there! ❤
I really enjoy coming a long with you, I love how peaceful all the cemetary's are. Have safe travels!
Very nice
I enjoyed the song by Otis Clay. Thanks for turning me on to another fabulous gospel singer. Stay warm. Did you know that loads of little towns have yarn and knitting shops. You can often drop in and the ladies in the community will get together and make you a pancho or blanket out of their scraps. They love to warm up a fellow who is struggling to stay warn.
I am new to your channel and I have watched a three of your vids back to back - enjoyed every moment looking forward to your live stream - thank you so much for sharing ✌🏼❤️
Solitude. A cemetery is a beautiful place to quietly reflect on your life and the the lives of those buried there.
Wow . This cemetery is on 67 & runs to 71. Street. JENNIFER HUDSON'S FAMILY IS BURIED THERE. AND THE MAYOR OF CHICAGO HAROLD WASHINGTON
Simeon basketball star Ben Wilson is buried there also.
Wow think Ben is the one that they say could have or would have been better then Michael Jordan??
Yeah still remember what happen to Jennifer Hudson's family so tragic!!😢
thank you Lamont for your videos!
My husband and I would go to cemeteries all the time. I don't find this odd at all.. He's now with our heavenly father.. dear man of 43 years of marriage. You're just doing something I used to do.. Especially when I would find lost family..
I've always enjoyed going to cemeteries but I've been disabled since 2013 so I really appreciate these videos.
Thank you for saying its not weird to find solitude walking in cemeteries. I have always found peace as well as prayer.

We want to know more about you and your story. How about a Q & A. Where did you grow up? What do you like to do outside of graveyards and crime scenes? You're a good guy. You are appreciated!
This was a very inspirational video. Thank you Lamont!
Thank you!! Enjoy walking along with you...and listening to your information ...
Hi Lamont!! Great video-Thank You🕊🕊🕊🕊
I am new to your channel and enjoy your videos.
Hello Lamont I also have always been passionate of going to cemeteries I have my grandson going with me now ❤️
Thank You So Much...
You took the time to show us this timeless journey.....

Hi Lamont as kids the family would take drives to south Jersey to peach farms and tomato farms and visit their friends in a cemetery there crazy thing was we'd have a picnic on the ground next to their stone! People passing by gave us weird looks😆
Jesse Owens is an inspiration to us all..rest in peace Sir..with love from St.John's, Newfoundland Canada...Thanks Lamont
Yet Hitler didn't snub Jesse Owens unlike the U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt.
