    I think Coach Cal going to Arkansas was a much needed move. He himself, UK fans, administration, boosters, local media all need a big reset. With each program moving in different directions, I hope he has success there. Cal is a great person and the memories he gave to Uk fans his first 10 yrs were the best. But the last 5 yrs have been awful and he needed to go. So good luck at Arkansas except when they play UK.

    I would have never in my life thought I would listen to a John Calipari press conference and be moved in a positive way. I hate to admit how much Calipari has drawn me in with this. He seems to understand the assignment and comes across as quite motivated. Very ready for what he will bring to the table.

      He's a used car salesman. He's fantastic to listen to and very persuasive. Kentucky fans know it all too well. He'll keep his same formula, you'll have a lot of fun watching a talented young team but end up disappointed in the end. The college game of recent does not favor the Calipari formula. He's no doubt a hall of famer and maybe he will have success in Arkansas but from what he has shown in the last 5 years is that he no longer is ahead of the college curve.

    Hey everyone, I am a Kentucky guy and I congratulate you on hiring a new coach, but you had better learn to take 98% of what this man says with a grain of salt. I actually laughed out loud and yelled, "Are you serious?!?!?!?" when I listened to him say that a coach takes responsibility and never throws his players under the bus. When we lost to Oakland in the first round of this year's tournament that is exactly what he did. He never took one ounce of responsibility for that loss. He blamed the freshmen that HE recruited and brought into the program. Here is a direct quote from following the game: "“We made some critical mistakes at critical times again today. I mean we had our chances. As good as they (Oakland) played and as many shots as they made, we still had our chances. And both on defense and offense. And when you have a really young team and you look at where did the mistakes come from, they were freshmen.” He has yet to say that HE could have done anything differently. After losing in the first game of the SEC tournament instead of getting our guys in a gym to get ready for the NCAA tourney, he took them BOWLING! He refused to play a zone defense, even saying once, "I can't coach a zone". He was here for 15 seasons and played the same offense and defense for the entire time as the game of basketball was continually changing which has led to U.K. having the worst 4 years in their history his last four seasons as coach. In 2019 we were 9-16 and 8-9 in the SEC! He also said this....."Everyone thought the goal was to win championships, that is not my goal, my goal is to get my players drafted". Now, he had some good years here, there's no denying that, but after he signed a lifetime contract in 2019 it's been downhill ever since. I know you're excited, and I hope things change with him, but the majority of U.K. fans were jumping with joy when he left. Arkansas is a great program and I always enjoy watching them play, but don't expect any miracles because there won't be any. I sincerely wish you good luck, honestly I do! But, there are many of us very glad to see Calipari wearing red. Can't wait to play you guys, I hope it is a hard fought battle, but of course I hope the Cats win!! 😎

    • @JFred2
      @JFred2 6 месяцев назад

      Loved what i heard at the presser. The guy clearly oozes charisma. But at the same time it's difficult to argue with any of your mostly well written and well reasoned post based on its merit. Although I will say you completely butchered his quote about Re: Goals of winning championships vs draft pick. What he actually said was his "top goal was getting 8 drafted, not winning a title". It's not as if someone is limited to having only one goal so this was overblown to begin with at least IMO. And i swear this isn't revisionist history but I even recall thinking at the time that it was a brilliant 4D chess move on his part. Are the fans going to want to hear that? No. But you know who will? Literally every current and future recruiting target. Anyhow I'm excited to see how this all unfolds. Certainly should add some extra intrigue to the already exciting UK v UA annual matchup. Go Hogs!

    • @wrightwrjr
      @wrightwrjr 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@JFred2 First off, here is the entire quote, but there's more: ""Last year we started the season with a goal. You may think that goal was to win the national title and win all the games. It was to get eight players drafted ...
      "The mission statement for me would be to be a vehicle to help others reach their dreams, to be the stone that creates the ripple in their lives that goes on and on and on. Now, in our state, they want my mission to be WIN NATIONAL TITLES! WIN NATIONAL TITLES! But my mission is bigger than that."
      Now, that isn't how we view things in Kentucky. He was paid $8.5 mil per year to win championships. If he happens to have players who get into the NBA that's all well and good, but he wasn't hired to be an NBA recruiter, he was hired to win basketball games. When he was hired he did a press conference very similar to the one he just did in Arkansas and he said the total opposite. He said his goal was to add banners to the Rupp Arena wall. Not a word was said about getting his players drafted. That's what I meant, you can never know what the man will say next except he will say what he thinks people want to hear. Give this a listen.

      I understand what you are saying, If I was an Arkansas fan I would love this move, but there is no denying that 1 national championship in 16 years at KY is very underwhelming.
      I am from Memphis and when Cal coached the Memphis Tigers the fan base absolutely loved him, no doubt we were heartbroken when he left for KY, I thought he would retire at KY with 3 or 4 national championships in 20 + years
      He is a great recruiter, he takes a lot of pride in getting guys to the NBA, but he has come up short with winning championships, thats why he is very popular with former players but not very popular with universities he has worked for or the fans of those universities.
      He is in the Basketball HOF so my opinion doesn’t mean much but just my personal opinion, he is a very good coach but he needs to win 1 more with Arkansas if he wants to be considered great.

    Everybody knows they went after Beard first. Maybe they didn't know Cal was interested or the would've approached him first. You don't actually 'offer' the job unless someone will accept but they definitely talked to Beard first
