    Lovely car. Great colour. Good review. Very enjoyable.
    You’re right - you don’t need any more speed on the road. You really don’t.
    My Elise has all the Apple features, Waze, voice control etc. Just plug the iPhone into the stereo and by a £10 Halfords phone holder.
    The little black button? That’s central locking/unlocking for you!

      Hi Mike, thank you so much for the very kind words about the video! I can't believe it's the central locking! So simple... I really should've known that! I always secretly hoped that it was machine guns or some other Bond-esque gadget!

    Great review! I know this "more, mooooooooooore...!!!!" feeling. I feel exactly the same every time in my Elise.

    The switch on the shift console is for the door locks. Your car has a trunk release? That's a new luxury, the S2 requires that you use the key to open the engine cover.

    You can get an MX5 NC (Mk 3) with power retractable hard top, with one latch and a button to retract the roof in 13 seconds, and it takes the same time to put the roof back up. All for around 5 Grand upwards. You're right about the power tho' we don't need any more power than either car offers, on UK roads.

      Ah but where’s the fun in a sensible, practical roof!

  • @daveblock4061
    @daveblock4061 3 года назад +1

    I have a 2005 S2. That 1.6 sounds quite poor compared to the 1.8 2ZZ. The black button ahead of the flashers is the door lock. As for the roof in 25 months of ownership I have had it on 4 times. Also makes ingress and egress a breeze. As for the boot I highly recommend the lidbone. Stays up with one hand. And the Elise is not a convertible but a roadster with a targa top. I have both a carbon hard top and the soft top. Fantastic car, but as another said below, PLEASE do not close the door with the window.

  • @mitchellmcgarrity6157

    The black button locks/unlocks the doors! I've had my 1.8 Elise S since November last year and I daily mine. Never really had trouble with practicality and the economy is better than my old Clio RS200! Only issue I've found is sometimes feels a bit clunky on colder days, can't really explain it though 🤔. My boot cable also snapped but I've heard this is a problem with lots of Elise...

    • @mitchellmcgarrity6157
      @mitchellmcgarrity6157 3 года назад

      Also with the roof issue, I've found if you hold the trigger that locks in the back latch and just fit the front one by pushing it goes in much easier!

      Thanks for watching Mitchell! Another friendly commenter has enlightened me on the door locks but thank you too! You’re a braver man than me for dailying one but I have immense respect for you! I have also noticed that on colder days they seem to clunk a bit, not sure why either.

      I’m 1.87m and I would describe it as ‘snug’. Haven’t driven an S2 so can’t really comment. I picked the S3 because it has the Toyota 1.6 rather than the Rover 1.8 but it’s entirely up to you.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  2 года назад +1

      If I’m just in by myself then it’s ok but if you have a passenger it’s tight. My advice is to take the roof off to make it easier to get in and out of. Other than that then it can end up with you crawling on yours hand and knees but it’s all part of the fun!

      @@BuckleUpShow Ooh flame war, great. Look, my knowledge of the S1 Elise is is based on experience. You are just spouting received wisdom. And you didn't mention HGF in your sweeping generalisation. I drove a 1998 S1 to Portugal and back in searing 40C heat, booted it round Goodwood several times, and thrashed it on the road, no problems. I'm sure your 1.6 CR could do that too, and I wouldn't disparage it. But if you are going to slag the S1 off in one of your videos, at least do us the courtesy of checking your facts, and being specific; otherwise you are going to come across as not authentic. You are very much in the minority of reviewers if you are running the S1 down.
      I find that my S1 "works" perfectly well. And if it had not been made, you certainly wouldn't be sitting in your S3 CR.
      By the way, your car weighs over 100kg more than mine, this is probably why it only gets to 60 in 6.4s (according to Evo: www.evo.co.uk/lotus/elise/7006/lotus-elise-club-racer-review ). A standard S1 would run rings round you on the track.
      I think, with an open mind, I should watch the rest of your video now...!
      Cheers
      Jon

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  3 года назад +1

      Hey buddy,
      Sounds like you’ve had a fun afternoon! Firstly, I’d just like to mention that at no point in my review do I say anything bad about the S1 Elise. Maybe you would have noticed this if you were actually paying attention? (Although you do admit you haven’t watched the whole video before commenting so no real surprise I guess).
      I only mentioned the Rover K Series engine which is well known in motoring circles for developing a head gasket failure. I would argue that the difference in engine between S1 and S3 was worth mentioning and might even help to persuade more people to buy into the Lotus brand (which I think would be a good thing).
      I would also discourage you from using the argument that because your S1 hasn’t had any engine problems, that must mean none of them did. It makes you sound far less intelligent than I’m sure you are.
      One last thing. Resorting to searching stats to compare your car to mine to prove yours is better looks at best a little desperate and at worst probably speaks volumes about other possible insecurities you may have. No comment on what they might be.
      Anywho, thanks for watching and let’s just agree to disagree!

    • @jonbretro4596
      @jonbretro4596 3 года назад

      @@BuckleUpShow No insecurities here, friend. I agree that HGF is widely thought of to be the K-Series engine's Achilles Heel, but there are ways you can mitigate the effect, such as not booting it when cold. I didn't actually say that no one else has suffered the failure, just that I hadn't and that was my experience. I've likely been a bit too harsh on you; after all, what you said is a sort of throw away line that's supposed to be funny - sorry about that, you must think I'm a die hard S1 fanboi. Actually, I'm not - I nearly bought a yellow CR just like yours last year, but it had too high a mileage for me. It also occurred to me that it'd be a lot of fun if we did a trackday, and compared the cars scientifically. Hmm, this would probably make a very good RUclips vid...
