I used to sing as a first tenor semi professionally. Seeing this man sing had me quit cigarettes and put my voice first. Thank you. The words I have otherwise to give thanks will be music.
You both make baroque music accessible for a big(ger) audience. There is between the both of you a great chemistry. Fine how everything comes together in these clips: the timeless value and depth of Henry Purcell's compositions, the singer who's soul and voice were meant to shine and reflect these timeless pearls and the playing on the theorbe which is authentic genuine, refined and deeply felt.
They connect with the myth in Baroque music with these performances and the sense of myth in Purcell's music. This format with the theorbo and singing makes it so personal too, however. It makes me think of how epic poetry would be recited with an instrument and a poet or singer. This is like that. But the music is also beautiful. It's like a moment of Paradise.
He opens his mouth and the soul comes out to wrap itself around words and I get to listen in awe. My man cheats, he goes directly for the spine bypassing the whole cerebral thing that is supposed to be part of the listening transaction and it's great. Oh and Brandon you did well too lol. Thank you for brightening up the perpetually dark winter Sunday here in Sweden. Peace, stay safe and take care everyone
The two pieces by Purcell you and Mr. Mobley have performed here are beyond words. Pure and utterly beautiful in the most absolute meaning of th word. Thank you
Wow this guy is crazy talented. I've heard some counter tenors before, but this guy just articulates so well, and he has amazing tone and pitch. Not to mention the musicality! The theorbo compliments his voice so well too! Awesome recording Brandon and Reginald!
If youtube allowed us to applaud, I would do so emphatically. I hope we will get more of these cooperation with Mr. Mobley, he's unique in his style and delivery.
Not to downplay anything pop-music, there is no accounting for taste. But Reginald's voice is something so absolutely unique, not just in its texture but also in his absolute control. This video should tens of millions of views. I haven't heard something that mindblowing for years. If anyone has recommendations for other such works, I'm all eyes and ears!
I know very little about music in general and even less about singing, but Reggie Mobley has to be the best vocalist I've ever heard. I can't imagine how many hours (or years) of practice went into his ability to maintain a tone as precisely as a machine one moment and then create a ton of depth and/or perfectly executed vocal ornaments the next.
Those crunchy base notes on the theorbo contrasting with Reginald's silky glissandos is exquisite. I first became aware ofs this song via Michael Nyman's Draughtsman's Contract, and it's such a pleasure have a version of the original that's faithful and yet contemporary at the same time. I can't stop playing it. Beautiful. Thank you.
I have watched this countless times and I think about it all the time. You are both phenomenal! I'd pay good money for an album of collaborations between you two.
Ok, I'm going to need you to interview Reginald and talk about how you met and how he manages to sing so beautifully in such an uncommon way. Please? Fascinating register.
Your duet is perfect, the voice and the instrument compliment each other so well, and both have this tonal quality which takes you into another world. Also Reginald's diction is superb, it allows truely enjoying the poetry. Please treat us again in the future,if possible.
This is Great Brandon! I love Reggie Mobley and seen him live around three times. Some of my favourite concerts, repertoire and his voice is just beautiful. Great theorbo playing too!
Thank you for sharing an amazing voice, a rare instrument, and an ancient masterpiece with us! If it wasn't for you and this channel, I would never have heard this piece! And I would have missed out on a treat. This is my 3rd replay...
Isn’t it amazing when people exceed your expectations?! Even after watching the last video you made together with awe I was still blown away! Thanks Brandon for bringing other talented musicians to my awareness 👏❤
Another beautiful voice complimented perfectly by the therobo. Thank you for these videos recently, they really do an excellent job of showing the role of the instrument. The voice and the instrument reach above where neither could alone. It's magic!
I was supposed to have left over an hour ago to go run my errands, but here I am still sitting here listening to Reginald Mobley. God damn, this guy is sending me into all kinds of ecstasies!
Brandon wie gehts? Its been a while since I posted so I thought it was time. Any video with the theorbo is always fun for me; I also love historical stringed instruments. As always your playing is spot and the ability to split super lows with bright highs is always a pleasing dichotomy. I have a request for you though as a lover of old tyme stringed things too. Do you think you could do a video on the ancient Egyptian 'long neck lutes'? Not the shorter neck 'oud' like varieties but the long neck versions found in ancient temples. Maybe something you're interested in maybe not but I would love to see one being played today and an excuse to buy something else for your collection! Merry early Christmas dude!
That was amazing. I've heard a lot of countertenors, but the purity of his sound is one of the best I've ever heard. He's up there with David Hurley in my opinion.
His voice is otherworldly! I heard him for the first time last night and can't get enough. I've been playing him in my office all day.....he really brings Purcell 9one of my favorites) alive.
After i discovered this magical duo in "music for a while" , a similar gem of Purcell, i cannot divert myself from this marvellous channel. Thank you youtbe for letting everybody discover such gems.
Oh wauw, i have no words 👏 I keep coming back to this performance, it really struck a chord in me, I can't stop thinking about it wanting to listen again and again!
I just want to say... these are some of the first times I've ever actually been able to make out the lyrics of operatic songs. Something about typical soprano vocals that just turns it all into pure melody and I lose the meaning outside of a few focus words. I think that's my fault not the singers. But this stuff you guys are doing, it's intensely good. Thank you both.
Yes!!! You must record these songs!!! Such a perfect voice and articulation of these songs. The first time I heard this I went to Amazon looking for the CD and found nothing!!!!
I heard (and heard again and again and again...) Thank you two, to present us with such magnificent interpretation. In time - Inspiration, is the name if this wonderful voice. ❤
Wow! I love getting blown back with surprise when peoples speaking or singing voices are nothing like you expected. What a phenomenal sound! Beautiful performance from both of you.

Beautiful! Please put out a CD! Also, you might listen to Julian Bream and Peter Pear's album "Elizabethan Lute Songs" (One of my favorite albums)
You guys absolutely MUST make an album with these songs!
It really would make for amazing background/dinner music!
@@ChuckOso4483 For me personally, this could never be background music. It captures 100% of my attention and doesn't let go
Yes!
Hell yeah🤓
Please!
I used to sing as a first tenor semi professionally.
Seeing this man sing had me quit cigarettes and put my voice first.
Thank you. The words I have otherwise to give thanks will be music.
I'm happy for you, I hope the best! I wish I could sing

Well said!
@Inner World Music Guitar,
You've described exactly the quality that brings me back to these recordings, and wanting to hear much more!! Thrilling!
My sentiments exactly. Their music always uplifts, no matter the topic❤.
Check out "Dream Faces" and "Music for awhile" . Mesmerizing!
I wish he would also make a lute course with the same quality as his guitar ones. I would pay so much money for that.
These Purcell + Acker + Mobley videos are astounding!!
Awesome voice!
Wow, indeed!!!!
Jesus Christ the sovereign God loved you my friends :" )

So well put!

Brandon Acker, Theorbo, Reginald Mobley, countertenor - a sublime match made in heaven. Music to soothe and divert a troubled heart.
Wow this guy is crazy talented. I've heard some counter tenors before, but this guy just articulates so well, and he has amazing tone and pitch. Not to mention the musicality! The theorbo compliments his voice so well too! Awesome recording Brandon and Reginald!
(complements with an /e/... but only if you want to know. Not complaining... and please: no complaints.)
Need a full baroque album of you two 😍😍
It's so nice seeing a fellow counter-tenor showcasing how beautiful and rich the voicetype is. What an incredible performance from both of you!
please make an album with this amazing man. I need more of this.
@@hisky. we're recording a CD this October 😊
If youtube allowed us to applaud, I would do so emphatically. I hope we will get more of these cooperation with Mr. Mobley, he's unique in his style and delivery.
When the stars align…wonderful song, stunning vocal and the forceful but subtle playing by Mr. Acker. Sublime!
Just magnificent - both of you!
We are fortunate that the internet allows wonderful music like this to be shared.
He plays like an angel. He sings like an angel. Hey Heaven, stop sending these awesome people to Earth; we really don't deserve to be this pampered 😭
I now know the meaning behind "Something so beautiful, that all I could do was weep"
1:13 goosebumps
Despite the high pitch and the ornamentation, I can understand every word. Absolutely marvelous. 👍🏻

Mr. Mobley's voice is stunning, his built-in autotune is top notch
This is one of my favorite songs and renditions. So good! It makes me happy every time!
Had to come back and relisten to the leap around 1:54 again and again -- truly stunning navigation there!
Seeing the thumbnail I did NOT expect the register being so high. What a voice!
Here I go - I'm watching this again. It's tremendous, what a treat!

Holy Moses! That was immaculate! 👏👏👏
Oh hai my favourite youtube puppeteer - fancy seeing you here.

This is some of the most metal baroque music I’ve heard.
I was going to say the same thing!
this is interesting to note because metal and baroque actually share a ton more than youd probably assume!
@@fewwis48 I can hear it

I might suggest Jean Rondeau recording of "Vertigo" by Royer, on the harpsichord, here on RUclips. I headbang to that.
I don't know how many times I listened to this. I can't have enough of it, and this musical gem is so short. My goodness this is beautiful!
This is unreal. I cant help but wonder what kings and queens would have ate dinner being serenaded with this exact combination. Do go on!
Henry Purcell really knew how to write for the countertenor. Even the alto parts in his choral music are fantastic.
This tune actually made me cry. This is such a beautiful duo. I also wrote a chapter for a fantasy story while hearing this
I really can't get enough of this channel. Bravo Brandon!
I have watched this countless times and I think about it all the time. You are both phenomenal! I'd pay good money for an album of collaborations between you two.

what chads. i LOVE the guy’s voice, and the playing was impeccable of course!
What a beautiful playing and singing
Beautiful! The lute accompaniment reminds me of 60s folk music.
Here the deities definitely approve. Wonderful work as always, thank you for this! ♡
I just got off work and this really lifted my spirits. The perfect piece to drive home to thank you!

How I love the growl-twang of the theorbo!

More Mobley! Yesssss!!! Crossing my fingers this isn't the last collab video you two produced...
also the ornament at 0:43 literally made my jaw drop
Purcell's music is just incredible. I can acknowledge the genius of the main composers of his era, but his music just grabs my ears and my heart.
All I can say is....WOW!
The combo of the basses and the high voice … 🧨
After that last video I will click so quickly on any video I see this man singing in. Absolutely amazing .
