    Thank you for a very educational & enjoyable video , I,m 62 first time I picked a paint brush since school I was 60. This last 2 years I have enjoyed painting my families homes, It keeps me busy in the winter, From a much appreciating ground worker still on the tools. Thanks again. Its the first I have watched looking forward to the rest .

    Brilliant Video. Very true..."Time is money" certainly on price work. 99% of site agents would not notice a rolled finish on spindles and it makes the job so much quicker and easier. Very helpful vid to any newcomer to site work and new build painter. Well done.

    Totally agree with the comment from Richard Dwyer. I'm in the trade and would never just roller any gloss work and leave it. To achieve a smooth, high gloss finish the paint should always be laid off with a brush.

    • @theoneandonlymattp
      @theoneandonlymattp 9 лет назад +1

      I'm no professional decorator, but i would have thought a roller would leave a surface free of brush strokes.

    • @PJV1201
      @PJV1201 9 лет назад +3

      That's what DIYers think but, in fact, rollers leave a stippled finish which feels bumpy to the touch (even with the glosser rollers used in the video). As a pro decorator, I always lay off oil based paint with the very tips of a brush which should leave no brush marks and a finish that feels like glass. I understand that time is money but, after applying the gloss with a roller, it should take a pro 10 seconds to lay off a spindle for a better finish. Maybe I'm just 'Old School'.

    • @OBEJAZZFUNKSOUL
      @OBEJAZZFUNKSOUL 9 лет назад +2

      Yes free of brush strokes but leaves a roller effect

    • @georgesmith5937
      @georgesmith5937 9 лет назад +7

      OBEJAZZFUNKSOUL
      roller finish is an orange peel like effect which is considered a defect any professional decorator. A good site agent will always notice this and flag it up and a good tradesmen will never leave it to chance. Taking the extra couple of minuets to lay off to get a proper finish is doing the job properly.

    • @Maghanashi

    I would definitely do the underneath of the handrail first then the base rail, spindles then the sides and top of the handrail and the newel post last. That’s the way I’ve always done it, good video anyway.

    Respect to you loving the videos I always used to brush the spindles never roled but the Dulux sleeves do look good. How do you store your rollers after use? Do you clean with cleaning spirits or just chuck them in a sealed tub of water. If the latter how do you get them ready for the next use?

    I'm a pro painter. Trade and private are different worlds. high end residential finish takes time. site, new builds. smash them out to a certain finish in the time the price allows. man who work for nothing get a job anywhere. man who works on price in out see you later next plot please. A lot of people don't realise how tight the prices are on price. two beds need to be done in 3/4 days. you may have to paint 2 one beds a week if the plots are ready and available just to make any money. You are not painting your grandmas spare room and having tea and Jaffa cakes every half an hour. Your working, hard. every day putting in some serious hours banging out voids or new builds to make some money on a price that normally only allows a couple of days per flat.
